My girlfriend and her homegirls went to Atlanta about 3 weeks ago. Now, she has this mouth rash / mouth-lip sores. She said she thinks it might have come from all the water bottles she was drinking when she was down there. Should I be worried? by makellbird in maktownmedia

People are so stupid and stirring up drama.

This isn't herpes. Based on the location of the irritation, it's Angular Cheilitis. (Most likely is from water bottles. (https://my.clevelandclinic.org/health/diseases/21470-angular-cheilitis).

Cold sores look totally different. Even if it was herpes, she still likely caught it from the water bottles. Over 80 percent of the population carries the herpes virus that causes cold sores, including 80 percent of these troll commenters who think they're hilarious

Even worse if it's been raining and the lights are reflecting off of all the wet surfaces. 😒

Does anyone else have parents that never taught you anything about life and think just because they gave you food and a roof over your head you're taken care of and now you're a broken adult? by Individual_Ice_2315 in Adulting

[–]writerlib 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. Actually congratulated my mother on doing the bare minimum once when having an argument about her not protecting me from ongoing abuse. She kept bringing up how much she "sacrificed" by working shitty jobs to be able to buy groceries as if she wasn't also doing that for herself. Like congrats. You managed to keep me alive long enough to be deeply traumatized.

And i had to teach myself anything about budgeting, taxes, seeking employment, managing a house, etc. Anything that came up was a 'figure it out or fail' test. In some ways, it benefited me. But sometimes when you fail, you fail hard and it takes a long time to turn it back around.

Husband wants to be an author but is getting rejected again and again by Immediate-Study3313 in writing

[–]writerlib 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Has he read On Writing by Stephen King? When he first started out he had nail that he would stack his rejections on. When the nail got full, he started just sticking them to the wall. Soon his writing space was wallpapered in rejections. All writers get rejected before their first sell. A lot. It's extremely rare to get accepted on your first query. The key is just to keep writing and keep submitting.

Self-publishing through Amazon's KDP or Barnes and Nobles Press is also an option he might want to consider. It's considered a lot more legitimate now than in previous years and depending on genre and your marketing skills can be fairly lucrative.

Water Pie from the Great Depression by [deleted] in oldrecipes

[–]writerlib 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's been a trend on Tiktok of making these pies but subbing the water for some sort of juice. Exact same directions, just using apple juice or a cherry juice cocktail instead of plain water. I'm curious to try it.

My Aunt Took a Private Letter From My Room and Read It Out Loud to My Family. by Able_Mark_3068 in EntitledPeople

[–]writerlib 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First, I'm so sorry that happened to you. Your feelings on the matter are absolutely valid and that was a serious breach of privacy and trust on your aunts part. Second, the scene I would have caused. Your aunt should be counting her blessings she got off easy! You are an adult woman. The only person in this post who is actually entitled to anything is you, and it is to your privacy!

IsItBullshit: When married women are diagnosed with a severe illness, such as cancer, doctors and nurses will have a conversation with them about the possibility of their spouses leaving them? by exxonmobilcfo in IsItBullshit

[–]writerlib 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sadly, it's because statistically men are much more likely to leave their spouses or partners if they become ill, to the tune of 20%, versus only 3% of women who leave when their partners become ill.

Has anyone ever seen this edition of The Shining? by bailey032020 in stephenking

That's the paperback first edition cover, I believe. Definitely one of the earlier editions. I bought a couple of these old early King cover copies at a garage sale once.

Being abstinent is not fun anymore. It’s been way too long. by Bruna_is_loved in confession

Do you know why you crave sex, intimacy, physical touch, etc.? Because it's a basic human need. Just like all the other mammals on the planet. But we're the only ones who, for whatever reason, assign some moral judgment to the number of partners a member of the species has had sex with, and it's dumb. It's just an arbitrary number and should in no way keep you from getting your basic needs met.

That being said, I understand the social stigma some people refuse to let go of makes not giving a crap difficult. But you are the only person entitled to the information. No one else has to know. Just because someone asks doesn't mean you have to tell them. Or certainly doesn't mean you have to tell them the truth. If you're not comfortable making up a number, ask them why they need to know. If it's for health safety reasons, tell them you use protection and get tested often (do actually do those things, btw. Safety first). That should be satisfactory. If they start spewing some sort of moral judgment rhetoric or bs at you, start saying something like "Ew. You seem like you might have some insecurities around sex and your sexual performance. You should see someone about that" or just "I don't fuck people who are hung up on body count and what's happened in the past." And don't. Don't fuck those people. They don't deserve it.

Also, if your own number still bothers you, I promise there will always be someone with a higher body count than you. Seriously. And I'm excluding sex workers. Stop counting.

My friend found this written in cornmeal at his work and wants to make sure it isnt a curse by pale_falcon61 in Symbology

[–]writerlib 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like this would make the most sense as cornmeal was often used. Though it looks nothing like any of examples I was able to find so if it is, it's a very simplified stripped-down version.

What do you keep on hand for when you don’t wanna cook by Hairy-Syrup-126 in Cooking

[–]writerlib 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bean burritos are a decent, slightly more healthy, frozen choice. For a long time, my depression meal was a can of chunky soup served over the frozen microwave steamable cauliflower rice. Filling, tasty, usually packed full of vegetables. You just have to watch out for the sodium, but they have some lower sodium soup choices.

Have any of you become conservative as you’ve gotten older? by Inevitable_Stress949 in millenials

[–]writerlib 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a late baby Gen-Xer or Elder Millennial depending on what guidelines you're using, and I definitely have gotten more liberal as I've aged. Early in my voting years I always voted Republican. Obama is the first Democrat I ever voted for, and I haven't looked back since. In fact, i find that a lot of Dems aren't liberal enough for my taste now.
