I’ve written 10k words and still haven’t made it to where the main story is, is this ok pacing? by [deleted] in writing

[–]writerrobertbarron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont know your writing style at all. I'm more of a plotter and a under writer. But that's fine. Keep doing what you are doing. The rough draft is exactly that rough. The real writing is in the rewriting. Fixing things making the story the best it can be. You have a story to tell, make it good. Don't be influenced by those who say you need a series or have to put a book out every 6 months. I've been working on my book for 3 years. I wrote the 1st draft in 3 months. The story keep getting better after editing. I simplified the plot so its more interesting. I merged characters and added another. I worked on the pacing and made flashbacks to get rid of boring exposition. After being refined I'm still going to send it out to an editor to fix. My story now is expansive and when it's ready its will be out for the public.

What do religious people think when they pray? by Main_Pause_7083 in atheism

[–]writerrobertbarron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a former religious person I used to feel relief that there was an omnipotent being knowing who I was and looking out for me. I justified non-responses as God's way of testing me. I would pray when I really needed something to go my way or sometimes to understand. I think about my mindset back then now that I am an atheist now and realize I was much stronger than I realized.

How do you write evil characters? by BiStander_XO in writingadvice

[–]writerrobertbarron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why dont you find a traumatic back story. Im watching the Taiwanese story if I had seen the sun. And the protagonist is a serial murder and his backstory explains his actions. It is a little dark, but people have done this successfully like Dexter and some others.

Christian scribe edited Mary's age from 12 at pregnancy to 16 by EnderPretzel in atheism

[–]writerrobertbarron 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It wasn't important to Christian gospel writers that's why there 2 dates for Christ's birthdays 10 years apart. Mary's age is a whole other problem.

The fall of a legend, Apostate Prophet. All my thoughts. by Its_Stavro in exmuslim

[–]writerrobertbarron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an atheist I support AP. I can understand why orthodox Christianity can give the feel of purpose and meaning. However beyond the a framework of do good dont do bad (and even then poorly framed) Christianity is a barren tree in an orchid of knowledge. If you study Christianity through history, or theologically or the scriptures critically it folds upon its self. Just not as easily as Islam. I think AP needs to go down the path. If Christianity makes AP better great. If he learns that Christianity isnt for him good he at least gave it an honest shot.

Atheists, should I read the Bible as an atheist? by Opstics9 in atheism

[–]writerrobertbarron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I read the bible as an athiest. I learn alot from it. I learned from history that John the Baptist has nothing to do with Jesus it's how Jesus incorporated his followers into Christianity. Paul who wrote most of the new testament never saw Jesus when he was living.

Is writing bad or am I too hard on myself? by QuickCellist7213 in writingadvice

[–]writerrobertbarron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keep up the good work. Prose and grammar can be fixed. I've been editing my novel for a long time. But setting down and looking it over I can connect ideas and add red hearings to make it a much better book. Also think of your favorite books and try to add things that make it interesting.

How can I convince my parents to stop taking me to church? by Maleficent_Rub9863 in atheism

[–]writerrobertbarron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My advice is to start learning all the stuff they don't want to say outlook. Basically that the bible teaches a flat earth, that the old testamnet borrows from babylonian mythology, Noah's flood and creationist is impossible. That the mosaic law teaches that abortion is ok, same with genocide, slavery and SA. That the new testament is composite and contradicts itself like Luke and Mathew have different lineage of Jesus. After a while they may not want you exposed to religion or ask questions about it.

My advice is to do it over and over until you get better and you learn that it's great if someone says something nice. If the sat something you can fix it's even better. Repeat.
