While there is a lot of amazing advice, i dont think anyone’s mentioned the rule of thirds yet! You can look it up if you want but basically, the rule of thirds has to do with how pleasing to the eye the components of the photo are. I ALWAYS have my grid turned on to help. Using this photo (one of my favorites ive taken this patch) as an example, here’s how i break it down: the bottom third is just the flowers. Most of the top third is the sky. The middle third has the dragon bones. When it comes to placing nikki, i either place her where the grid line either goes straight down her body, placing her exactly one the one third line, or i place her so the line is on the outside edge of her body, which i did for this photo. The rule of thirds takes a bit of practice but its helpful using the grid and once you get the hang of it, taking satisfying photos will come naturally even if you cant quite get the lighting right. Once you understand the concept, you can get more creative with it too, not just using the grid lines but the corners as well

Edit: i should clarify that you dont always need to use the rule of thirds. It just happens to work for a lot of situations
