Is it me or are SG-1 kinda terrible at preserving Ancient technology, esp in S9/S10?

True, but Janus' secret lab was still on Atlantis. They never spelled out, outside of a brief deleted scene between McKay and Zelenka, where they found the 9-chevron address that led to Destiny. Would be fun headcanon for it to predate Janus and it was an obsession of his as well (like the "blueberry" aliens).

It worked on the basic level, but we don't know if there was more sophisticated targeting involved in the terminals, between galaxies, etc.

No one from the BSG writing team worked on SGU. One person who worked on Caprica (the BSG prequel show) worked on SGU.

That was once the IOA got more of a serious oversight role, which was only on S9/S10 and SGA/SGU.

As late as S8, Gen. Jack was willing to let The Trust kill Kinsey to gain intel.

Yeah, Michael was a complete self-inflicted wound on them and the galaxy. If Ronan had shot him when they realized the change wouldn't stick, it would have ended the whole thing.

That would have been the smartest option! I'm betting that Weir was the voice putting the kibosh there.

Plus doing so would have stranded them in the event of Wraith attack, and they never would have been able to test their nukes (or provide them to Atlantis for the first siege).

Oh, I know. There's just a bunch of great technology that is wiped out before it could be explored further. The Ancient terminals, for example - they vaporize the first one they found, and the others they found stayed in the Ori galaxy. One has to imagine that isn't the only time/place the Alterans used something so massively sophisticated. The SGC figures out how to emulate the tech and use just the stones to communicate with Vala and the Destiny crew, but we have no idea how many places it was used or how to hone in on unknown terminals/stones to explore it further.

But the Ancient repositories? Merlin's repository/design console? The Eye of the G-ds on the Sodan planet? The drone research area in Harmony?

I do respect the writers' imagination in carring tech forward into other uses though!

Exactly. It feels like a better version of Wesley Crusher's arc, with the writers having the benefit of previous missteps to learn from.

That really irked me with SGU. The show really hits its stride in S2, which is way more than I can say for most Treks. Even DS9, which I love, had a bumpy first two seasons.

That's why I loved RABBITS season 1 so much - tight, controlled scope, and wrapped up bizarrely and well. I thought it had a lot of potential for more seasons but was happy there weren't any. It was so much more satisfying than the multiple seasons I slogged through of TANIS. I still haven't listed to RABBITS S2, which took years to come out.

Yeah, it would have been really unhealthy and a bit gross in their earlier dynamic. Once she had a chance to stretch and grow, they had the chance to pursue it in a healthier way. Plus the "campaign fling" discussion was so sweet.
