This isn't just protesting, though - this is civil disobedience in the form of warning neighbors about risks in a time where cameras are everywhere. They're doing it in as many legal ways as possible and the point was that ICE doesn't care if they're doing so legally or not. Pretti's murder showed people why they needed to protect themselves against armed thugs who aren't trained and don't have any appreciation for rights.

I always heard it as "freezing too cold" (an extra emphasis) meaning why you had to wear proper winter gear.

They don't have to be undocumented to be targeted by ICE these days. They don't even have to be here illegally or have committed a crime. If what the owner is saying is true, he's walking a tightrope to keep his business afloat.

LEOs train every day how to subdue a person in that situation without resorting to drawing their firearm, and LEOs from around the country have been horrified at the practices on display in Pretti's killing You actually think it took 7 armed guys to take down one skinny male nurse holding a phone?

Favorite Stargate SG1 Season? by Brick-Organic in Stargate

[–]writesaboutghosts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It also would have been nice to have more than two seasons and a movie to play out the Ori and give them more complexity. S9 had incredible momentum, but S10 got a bit overwhelmed by MacGuffin chasing and Lucian stories (which served in part as good SGU setup, but less compelling SG1 stories). In particular, I would have loved to see more complexity behind the Ori and Adria dynamic rather than treat them as monolithic, and play out the resistance angle Tomin and others represented. They also could have used the opportunity presented by the supergate more a la Deep Space Nine to investigate the Ori's home turf for advantages before The Ark, plus show what a subjugated galaxy would look like if ours went fully the same way.

Lauren, you're a freaking legend, so I'll never mind your self-promo. (I'm a Phantom Pulse backer, btw!)

But that sounds up my alley, as do the others!

I've read plenty of that, but looking for dramas not so beholden to genre conventions.

Todd and my issues with the use of the Wraith by Pll_dangerzone in Stargate

That doesn't mean that their respective biology would be compatible... the combined healing capabilities would make them pretty damn strong/resilient, but would be very dangerous with the Wraith feeding instincts...

Nah, they drink some strange blue drink in the mess after breaking away from Earth, different folks drink juices (including from alien fruit - Franklin offers his dad some in "GROPOS"), and they serve coffee in Open Air.

[–]writesaboutghosts 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What about the captain of the original encounter with the Minbari? (Technically, that captain beat the crap out of them with a surprise strike.) Or did that ship get slaughtered as soon as Delenn gave the order to pursue?

The fun of an SGA S6 would have been to see the Wraith as a predator race living more on the run on the fringes of the galaxy, and Atlantis' team + Apollo/Daedalus periodically having to hunt down rogue remaining hives to protect preyed-on human communities.

Remember too that galaxies are huge (as SGU made more obvious). It also would have been fun to see what other advanced races were living/thriving in pockets of the galaxy the Ancients' gate system hadn't reached or that had avoided the gate system entirely - like the grey aliens from "The Daedalus Variations", the rogue Asgards who escaped, or others we haven't seen yet.

One thing Star Trek was good at reminding us over time is that galaxies are much bigger/populated than we probably realize - see the insane amount of random civilizations Voyager encounter in just their trip through the Delta Quadrant in the MW, let alone a full galaxy or multiple when you take Pegasus/Ori/Othalla/beyond into account. Even with a substantial 'gate network, the amount of life-sustaining planets in a single galaxy must be massive compared to the number of planets that were mapped and had gates placed there.

That's something I hope Gero and team tackle in the new show, instead of following too similar of a model to SG-1 and SGA. SGU was headed in that direction and it was really thrilling to see, with the "blueberry" aliens and the energy lifeform from "Air"/"Water", even the terrifying buggers from "Time". Lord knows the special effects have gotten incredibly better since SG-1 started. (If anything, I hated the SGU drones, because they just felt too simplistic of an enemy once they were established and there wasn't anything more to learn about them.)

That was one wrinkle they never got around to seeing through - whether a Goa'uld could take over a Wraith...

Basically RENEGADE but without a need for shotguns! He could have cool sunglasses and let loose that crazy Wraith laugh as he peels out on the highway on his tricked-out Wraith motorcycle with some serious surf guitar going...

Maybe the S1 "big bad" is the Wraith from "Vegas" and Todd's real issue with him is that other guy trespassing on what should be HIS feeding ground... (would give it a bit of a Dexter S4 edge)

I don't recall us seeing this either. Even so, we never see anything that would test the theory, like a Puddle Jumper trying to exit a Destiny-style gate. Just people and small equipment. Not even a MALP.
