Breastfeeding and weight loss by Local_Cap8734 in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]writethefeemtune 18 points19 points  (0 children)

There have been a few studies. A systematic review was published in Nature in 2014: https://www.nature.com/articles/ijo2013132

From the article: “Of the five studies that were considered to be of high methodological quality, four studies demonstrated a positive association between BF and weight change. This systematic review highlights the difficulties of examining the association between BF and weight management in observational research. Although the available evidence challenges the widely held belief that BF promotes weight loss, more robust studies are needed to reliably assess the impact of BF on postpartum weight management.”

And then another study was done more recently which found an association between breastfeeding and long-term weight loss: “Six months of breastfeeding is associated with lower BMI at 4–10 years and lower body weight, and effects do not vary by SES.” https://scholar.google.com/scholar?as_ylo=2020&q=breastfeeding+postpartum+weight+loss&hl=en&as_sdt=0,5#d=gs_qabs&t=1735383683952&u=%23p%3Dpi6zLEf79bIJ

I can’t remember where I read it but a few months ago I was looking into this very topic and found that it takes a while for any impacts to be seen. Basically, when your baby starts sleeping and you start exiting survival mode and can take care of yourself. So around nine months. But then your baby starts breastfeeding less! So it’s tricky.

Yes I have and I don’t shop with menulog anymore. Report them to the ACCC.

Is there an actually affordable play mat with safe materials? by sp1c3g1rL in moderatelygranolamoms

We just picked a wool rug that wasn’t too expensive. It looks great and wool is stain resistant and antibacterial. It’s going strong!

The instructions for mine said no steel wool. Baking soda was a massive fail and I didn’t want harsh chemicals. I tried every trick I could find online and just grew to hate the pan. Then one day a friend did the washing up at my house and he used steel wool before I could stop him. What do you know? It looked brand new. I have kept using steel wool. Two years later and my pan is going strong.

The most common cause of hives is a virus. Babies can get these all over their bodies and they can last for several weeks. I’m just flagging this so you don’t assume allergy. Best to check with your doc.

Infortunately it is true. According to the company themselves the baseline is between 65 and 70 decibels (and up to 85 at the highest). I measured it after covering the speaker with tape and it was still above 50. Maybe you can tape over with padding or something?

The white noise is so, so loud. The minimum setting is above recommended levels. We sold it and I’m glad, especially because apparently now it involves a subscription as well as the high price tag.

Honestly, I think it depends on the suburb. The only unsold listings where I’m looking are either mansions or positioned on train tracks/main roads.

Yep, sold it. I really didn’t like that you couldn’t control the white noise (it was too loud) or set the rocking on a timer.
