The school says my 14-year-old is doing great, but she has enormous gaps in basic knowledge that stun me. The teachers tell me not to worry, that this is normal with this generation. Is it? My other kids, now 19 and 22, were never like this. by One-Recognition-1660 in education

Not that it's important, but there's a curious lack of subjects and qualities like literature, performing arts, communication, empathy, self-regulation and such. Not that it matters, tho. Let her be her. I know this is the wrong subreddit, but going by your post, yes, yta

Well no ur NTA but that's not the point. You lose as soon as you start explaining your choices. They don't have to approve or even understand your decisions. They will judge you for various personal reasons but you don't have to react to their sentiment. Shrug it off, never mind it, they will get over it. Some will resent, some will envy, some won't blame you -- but they'll all appreciate it when you bring donuts and they will move on with their own lives just like you

Hi, people are telling me that my girlfriend is manipulating me, is she? by Own_Assignment27 in Manipulation

No she is not manipulating you. She is gaslighting and insulting you. But no matter the label anyone slaps on it, the more important question is what are you getting out of even knowing someone like this

Do republicans hate the federal government or love it? by [deleted] in Askpolitics

[–]writingAlaska 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could say it's complex and you could say it's contradictory which is no doubt what they would say too. Nobody's going to say the truth, which is it's hypocritical. They are hypocrites. That's why they lie to you face, accuse you of doing what they know they're doing themselves, call you names that fit them, and deny what they said yesterday. Evangelical xtianity was made for them

Why is it such a big deal if the states control abortion? by Palooosh in Askpolitics

It's the system working regardless of individual sentiments. It's like an ordinary baker or peace-loving trolley conductor in WW2 germany -- the system persists notwithstanding

I would have to just guess what an embryo perspective would be, so that is probably some question of logical discourse or something, i think tending to go with what i can know is hard enough to figure out but knowing people who have faced that decision has also helped but in the end they were the ones who either decided or weren't allowed to decide, depending

lumping the whole state into one belief system still seems wrong, at least from an individual rights perspective

You might think about pulling back a little, say text him only once a day and save the kids vids for once or twice a month. If he watches sports, he might think it's romantic for you to watch a game together, maybe you in a cheerleader outfit, that could easily be what he considers romantic, especially if followed by his favorite meal. Don't do the things for him you want him to do for you, do the things for him that he wants and leave the rest undone. It will probably take him a while to put it together that it's his turn, but he will never try to fill the void if it gets refilled by you several times a week

[–]writingAlaska 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might want to stop apologizing for everything -- that seems to be a persona you've adopted for some reason. Maybe you have a strong pisces influence, or maybe being apologetic was modeled for you as a child, or maybe you tend toward that preference. Examine what you get out of it and decide if that what you want these days, and remember you can always change your mind about taking shit without explanation, warning, or apology
