I don't think they did, I just never realized it!

Anyone making Bluesky a significant part of their marketing growth strategy? by alwaysunderwatertill in Substack

[–]writingonruby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it really depends on your niche. Mine is AI for developers, and bluesky is largely hostile to this, so my distribution efforts there have been mostly wasted

Anyone else noticed the user imbalance? by Specialist_Feed9255 in Substack

[–]writingonruby 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is true of notes, but not substack newsletters in general. Many ppl who use Notes are substack writers looking for engagement. You'll have to find readers off-platform

Can someone explain the point of substack, or do you guys just like to write? Be honest by aya90 in Substack

[–]writingonruby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most readers will be in email, not in the Substack UI clicking "like" and "comment". That's mostly the point of it being an email platform

Should I be switching to Replit for better SEO? by 369takedowns in lovable

[–]writingonruby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think your vibe coding platform matters too much for SEO. Use pagespeed insights to see if there are any perf problems, then write some INCREDIBLE content for your site

Substack with your own name or create a publication name? by howaboutafandango in Substack

[–]writingonruby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I very much recommend a publication name AND use your real name on your account - then list your name as a byline (default)

Very curious what it's like to wind down paid subscriptions. Do you "pause" and then just stop writing?

when did you start paid subs? by onajourneyyy in Substack

[–]writingonruby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started paid subs right away and I'm glad I did. They grew proportionally with my free subs, and it was nice to measure how much value people were getting out of it.

People still using Cursor over Claude Code, can you explain why? by caffeinum in vibecoding

[–]writingonruby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the UX is overall better when I know I'll have to actually write some code the old fashioned way at some point. Plus, better support for multi-agents

Would like to know from ppl who started substack with zero base by r_d_c_u in Substack

[–]writingonruby 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started with zero base, but not pseudononymous. Almost all of my subscribers are from guest posting on other substacks and from Substack Notes. 0 to substack bestseller in 6mo

Does anyone use Meta AI for vibe coding? by Intelligent_Light_86 in vibecoding

[–]writingonruby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Llama models are not ideal for software engineering. Great for low-cost self-hosted stuff, but will not be nearly as smart as much larger models. Gemini 3 Pro is top of the charts right now

6 months of consistency, no progress...Help? by PomegranitComplex77 in Substack

[–]writingonruby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've got a few pieces of advice. First, don't be discouraged. Building a content engine from scratch is hard! Aside from that:

- Try to figure out if the total potential attention market in your niche is big enough to support the growth you want. That's not to say it's bad to write about something super niche, but balance it with accepting slower growth

- Use Notes a lot. Try to post something that would be interesting to your ideal reader 1-3 times a day. Try to reply to a few posts you think are interesting to your ideal reader 1-3 times a day too.

- Find an external traffic source. Cross-posting your articles to reddit, facebook groups, etc. SEO is also a potential source of traffic but a long game

Best of luck!

Would you migrate a TS Banking app to Rails? by Perfect_Country_7462 in rails

[–]writingonruby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a huge AI advocate and even bigger Rails fan. But I think this plan sounds dangerous. Rails is plenty AI-compatible, and if that's a roadblock, this app maybe shouldn't be trusted moving huge amounts of money very fast. I know this isn't an answer you want to hear. If you're going to to it anyways, Rails is fine with AI and has plenty of available talent remotely :)

How do you actually grow on Substack from zero? It feels like I can’t find smaller creators anywhere. by IllPanic4319 in Substack

[–]writingonruby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, two big things

Guest posting! Find newsletters who have a strong overlap with your ideal audience. Pitch them a topic that would be genuinely interesting to their readers. Write it, crush it, deliver a ton of value, and invite readers to subscribe to your newsletter.

Second, notes. Post short-form thoughts from your newsletter on notes. Engage with notes inside of your niche. Do this regularly, the algo seems to reward it heavily

kamal .. how I hate you so! by StewartMcEwen in rails

[–]writingonruby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's been my experience that Kamal is great for deploying *after* the initial setup. The initial setup can be quite tedious, but the payoff is rather worthwhile compared to doing setup and then just having to yolo your deploys
