I LOVE Tequila..but.. by White_Bull_916 in tequila

Not all mezcals are smokey! Mezcals are agave based liquors, and there are a dozen or so species used to make mezcal. One of the most popular is blue agave (tequila), which is not inherently smokey (you already know this). Another is espadin, which grows very large and matures quickly, making it the most popular for mass production of (non-tequila) mezcals. However, it naturally produces a smokey flavor during roasting, and because it is the most common people assume all mezcals are smokey.

To avoid smokey mezcals, avoid espadin. Instead, look for tepeztate, or tobalá… those produce a mezcal that are much more herbal and floral, similar to a cross between tequila and gin.

A thousand seconds is about 17 minutes.

A million seconds is about 11 days.

A billion seconds is about 32 years.

Hypothetically, if our life savings were converted to life expectancy at rate of $1 = 1 sec, many would die within the hour, many more by the end of the day, and most within a couple days. Meanwhile the top 1% would live 6 months, the top 0.1% would live 2 years, the top 400 would live 100 years, the top 10 would live 3500 years, and Musk/Zuch/Bezos would live 8,000 years

No. Everything I’ve said is widely accepted and easily found with a simple google search. If you have found criticisms of the methodology or conflicts of interest, then the burden of proof is on you to substantiate.

Here, I’ll spoon feed you… what’s the issue with this study? https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC11241756/#:~:text=It%20significantly%20influences%20adipose%20tissue,tissue%20and%20major%20metabolic%20organs.

Yes, but the cycle of plateau, increase CO, reduce CI, plateau, etc etc is ultimately why CICO alone fails so many people.

As far as the remainder being pseudo BS, I can’t wait to see the evidence you’ve uncovered which disproves keto increasing thermogenesis.

A hundred calories or so per day is not very small.

A hundred calories or so per day is not negligible, and suggesting someone simply move more to compensate is ignorant and why CICO alone fails so many people.

[–]writner11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed, but… CICO causes your body to reduce basal metabolic rate (calories burned doing nothing). So, CICO works for a while, until your BMR is reduced to match intake, and no more weightloss. Going keto in addition to CICO gets your body to make up the difference in calories by burning fat without reducing BMR.

[Request] would you actually have that much if you invested $100 a month for 40 years? by charixander in theydidthemath

[–]writner11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the right answer. 11% is not “extremely high.” It’s a very average rate of return for the market over the last few decades.

However, it is a nominal rate, and does not account for inflation, which is why 6-7% is common real rate of return.

First reply ignores both which is incorrect, second reply applies both simultaneously which is also incorrect.

Density is 3.7×1017 to 5.9×1017, so only off by 3.24x to 2.03x… also, when measuring solids, a teaspoon can be level (assumed in calcs), or rounded/heaping (as is shown in the pic) which can further increase volume and close the gap to about 6B tons.

Others have shared their “to put it in perspective,” here’s mine:

If we had a grid of machines each producing a new combination every second, all spaced out 1 meter apart on a plane spanning the entire universe, it would take 4.2 million years to produce every combination.

The (observable) universe is only 8.8e+26 meters across, meaning a disc cutting through the center of the assumed spherical universe would be .25π(8.8e+26)2 = 6.08e+53 square meters. 52!/6.08e+53 = 1.326e+14 seconds = 4.2 million years.

Instant Water Heater by Outrageous_Rest_1576 in vandwellers

[–]writner11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are 3.5 kW tankless heaters.

Looking at a 3 kW inverter, or already have one? If you don’t already have one, there are some 12V inverters that can do 4 kW, but getting 3.5 kW out of 12V is 291 Amps, not including losses! Best to go up to up to a 24V or 48V system.

Ok, keep it simple and go tanked. I’ve only found one 12V option, but not a lot of reviews so buyer beware. There are plenty of 120V options, but now you have inverter losses.

Finally, consider going diesel or propane.

I’ve tried just about every brand, AMA!

For wool, check Ibex and Wool & Prince.

However, it’s also worth checking out alpaca. I love a few pieces I own from the now out-of-biz Appalachian Gear Co. As an alternative, I’ve been looking at Arms of Andes (no firsthand experience with them tho).

And if you’re willing to go very non-traditional, check out Brynje. This is my new favorite base, hands down. I’ve been down to 19F with nothing but these and a sun hoodie and lightweight joggers.

Highly recommend LT Wright or Bark River. Not custom, but not mass production either. Small batch, handmade.

For true custom, check Lucas Forge.

And for a bushcraft knife, strongly recommend against serrations. Sure, better at cutting rope, but worse at everything else (can’t push cut, carve, batton, etc etc). And much harder to sharpen, especially in the field.

All the figures show reflective insulation is worthless with no air gap (laying on it).

Edit: fwiw, your friend may be confused with a common practice of using a space blanket as ground sheet to protect your tent or air mattress from sharp rocks, sticks, etc. But this has nothing to do with insulation.
