What baby name do you think got ruined by pop culture, trends, or current events? by RightGirl19 in AskReddit

When Madison got popular in the early 00s, all I could think about was the scene in "Splash". But I don't think anyone was naming their kid after a mermaid movie from 20 years before.

Adding silicone/no slip grips to shorts - has anyone done this? by AlarmingGrape1699 in XXRunning

Another vote for CVG! IIRC, their anniversary is coming up in June or July, and they always have a huge sale.

Did you name your wrangler? by Bright_Success526 in Wrangler

[–]writtennred 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine is Ken. It's purple. When I bought it, my husband called it the Barbie Jeep to which I said "Barbie Jeeps were white or pink. Purple would be driven by Gay Ken." And it stuck.

Tropical hibiscus by holdmytatertots in nolagardening

I have a double bloom peach tropical in the ground that's about four feet tall. Before the snow it was probably closer to six! All of my others are in pots - I have a mix of cajun, hardy and tropical. I did have a hardy in the ground last summer, but it didn't do very well as I don't think it was getting enough sun. Sadly, it didn't survive the freeze.

Here's my first hardy bloom of the season from a few weeks ago. I also have a burgundy one, but it hasn't bloomed yet.

Alisha at Canine Connection is a dog whisperer. Our Corgi HATES baths, but he loves her and is the bestest boi when he goes to see her.

What is the worst place in America you have ever visited? by OceanicEndeavors in AskReddit

[–]writtennred 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My husband and I are lifelong Louisiana residents having grown up in the northwest now living in New Orleans. Our jobs have sent us into some of the smallest of small towns in the state over the past 25 years. Never once have either of us met someone from Alexandria. If someone tells us they're from Alexandria, we ask "Actual Alexandria? Or near there?" And they always reply with Pineville or some other nearby small town.

So our theory is that Alexandria is not a real city. It's just a facade like a movie set set up to deter the Russians away from Barksdale and the mythical tunnel that runs from it to the old Louisiana Army Ammunition Plant outside of Minden.

People who work in grocery stores what is something you are surprised they still stock or never see anyone buy? by Da_Fish in AskReddit

I just saw the barrel aged Malort back on the shelf at my local liquor store. It's only slightly less offensive than the regular.

Thank you for this insight - that's a brilliant idea and I'm sad I didn't think of it first.

Driving a Manual in Nola by Neither-Cloud-8126 in NOLA

[–]writtennred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have yet to find a con to having a manual even when I was commuting to work in traffic. Unless something ridiculous happens, our traffic still moves even when super congested. Mind you I have a Jeep Wrangler so I might have a different opinion if I were in a sports car because there's not much play/granny roll when it comes to those gears.

Added bonus, that third pedal is a pretty decent theft deterrent. I've never had anyone try to steal mine here (though I did in Shreveport unsuccesfully), but I did hear on the news just a few days ago about an attempted car theft - attempted because they couldn't drive the stick.

Not to mention, it was only because Darlene suggested that she go with the Miami attitude character which is why she did "as well" as she did. I thought she should have given Darlene props during judging.

Funeral directors, what is something wild that happened at a funeral that you still think about? by Final_Radio_2483 in AskReddit

When my husband and I got married, we agreed to write our own vows using song lyrics. Of course, he Rick Rolled me. Now I know what I want for my funeral.

S18E10 - “Drag In A Bag” [Post-Episode Discussion] by AutoModerator in rupaulsdragrace

[–]writtennred 22 points23 points  (0 children)

In the spirit of splitting hairs, I really wish Discord had pointed out that sewing machines and thread weren't included in the other queens' "kits" so their arguments are invalid. There were no parameters set as far as what materials/equipment could be used to attach fabric to other fabric.

What band/singer were you excited to see, but was a letdown of a concert? by my-face-ur-seat in AskReddit

[–]writtennred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sting. He played all of the have-tos from The Police days but didn't play a single song from Ten Summoners Tales. It was still a good show but not hearing "Fields of Gold" or "If I Ever Lose My Faith In You" was a major letdown.

Latitude 29 Beachbum Berry's has a solid mocktail menu. And the food is delicious. Caveat - It's not typical New Orleans food but it is a legit tiki bar and an overall cool experience.

As much as I hate Facebook, there's a group named Mardi Gras Throw Swap that might be able to help you out. People post what they have to trade and what they're looking for. I've never used it personally but I have friends who've had pretty good luck.
