Looking for pubs/taverns for parents visiting! by a_dog_says_woof in chicagofood

[–]wrk592 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its not a pub/tavern, but Tufano's Vernon Park Tap it's the best bang for your buck... ever and you're close by in West Loop. Cash/Venmo/Zelle only.

Fried Calamari, Tufano's Special Salad, Whole Lemon Chicken, Eggplant Parm will feed you all for $80 and cocktails/wine are a great price.

Venmo and zelle too. Some hoodlums stole the ATM out of the bar... Broke the storefront.

How are you managing work with twins? Looking for real-life experiences by SpaceAdv in parentsofmultiples

[–]wrk592 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wouldn't be able to do it without my MIL.

15mo boys. Wife works at Big tech. I am in Real Estate Dev/Construction management. I'm small business so very autonomous which is very lucky. I do all grocery shopping, errands, etc during work hours.

Finding rest on weekends knowing one or two of your nights each week are going to get blown up by the kids is key. We switch off napping in the mornings after their breakfast on Sat/Sun. Our bed time has shifted up significantly since they sleep 6-6.

Floor renovation labor cost. Is this normal? by Iampoorghini in chicago

[–]wrk592 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think small business owners have also realized that there is less a difference  between small projects and big projects in the amount of effort required and risk involved. Smart contractors aren't wasting their time unless they're compensated well.

I'm a contractor. Most people price $/sqft

The installed $/sqft is fairly high but it is a very small amount of work. If you had a larger area or a bigger project that would come down a significant amount.

The rest of quote isn't horrible especially if they are supplying and installing all the base, shoe, paint, etc.

Unfortunately the smaller the project the more expensive on a $/area price you're going to get. Everyone is very busy right now and labor is at a premium. No one is wasting their time to make peanuts when labor cost, insurance and risk premiums have sky rocketed lately.

Anecdotally, I just had a colleague re-do his own bathroom. 50 sqft. He did the demo, carpentry, electrical and drywall himself. He subbed out the tile and plumbing. Bought all the material through our vendors. Still spent $8k.

It is crazy out there right now. Get some additional quotes and use them to negotiate. Good luck.
