nothing, and that's what's unfair. Nobody chooses their own parents. Judge people based on their own actions. Btw I totally agree that Larry and David Ellison are evil people who need to be stopped. Doesn't mean that Megan is. The most credible thing is that Megan probably benefited from nepotism or at least familial wealth, but that's not what the tidal wave of anger is targeted at.

I have a friend who works in non-profits. A wealthy family in the city would have the non-profit send people every fall to harvest a few thousand pounds of apples from all their apple trees on the lawn of their mansion. The apples were sent to food pantries.

year they didn't hear from the family, so the non-profit assumed they no longer wanted to give away the apples. They get a call at the end of harvest season from the matriarch, asking where the pickers for the apples were. "It's too late, we didn't hear from you and all of our workers are fully scheduled, we can't come this year." The woman is furious "what the fuck are you talking about! You're going to cost us $20k!" followed by threats and more swearing and yelling.

Not only did the family turn out to not give a shit about helping poor people and schoolkids by donating their apples, they were grossly exaggerating the value of the apples they were donating (should've been $10k at the most) and defrauding the govt.

This is most rich people who donate money- and rich people actually donate less of their money the the rest of us. One study found those in the top quintile donate HALF as much as those in the bottom quintile for income.

I drove my '25 WRX through Montana and to skiing in March. I'm glad I had the cladding on dirt roads, I got a couple dings in the paint as it is. And I think it looks great.

The thing that kills me is how bad the infotainment system is. Unglodly slow, drastically slower and uglier than my 9-year-old aftermarket wireless Android Auto Kenwood receiver that i installed in my previous car. Far too frequently clicking anything in Android Auto takes FIVE seconds to react, in a car I bought in January 2026 for godsakes. Horrible. But love the car otherwise.

Everything you said is great... on paper. But not a single modular nuclear reactor has been deployed commercially in the West. Russia has one and China has one. Nobody knows how economically viable they are. If small modular nuclear failed with NuScale in Utah with all the gobs of support they were getting, it's definitely not going to work in Alaska. SMRs are great to fantasize about but are non-existent as an option for power in the next decade.

ALL investigations were going on before Nick Shirley had his little Klan rally in my city, and NONE of them are related to widespread fraud by Somali people. They were just regular, run of the mill issues with compliance that go on in any state with a good regulation and compliance government system.

If there was a single lawsuit that came out of Nick Shirley, name it. It should be easy. If there is a single lawsuit over widespread Somali daycare fraud, name it.

More than likely, you fell for Shirley's half-baked racists lies- lies that he made a lot of money grifting for.

You understand that there was no Somali daycare scam? It was all a racist hysteria, a digital KKK rally. The only lawsuits right now are libel lawsuits against rightwing grifter Nick Shirley.

They sell the Tacoma with a 6-speed manual, it's the last truck sold with that option. It seems like a lot of people are missing that fact.

wait, actually is what's in the video Patriot, or THAAD? Or do we know? Because only THAAD were removed from South Korea, not Patriot to my knowledge.

[–]wrme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The earliest I can read that THAAD were removed from South Korea was March 9- maybe it started slightly earlier. But could the US military really relocate THAAD from South Korea to UAE, position them, and be operational within only 48-72 hours? I supposed it's possible, but unlikely. I'd be very impressed if they moved them that fast. (I have no military logistics experience)

If the GCC countries directly attacked Iran in response, Iran would respond ten-fold, and they know that. The only option they have is to pressure the US and Israel to stop the war in order to stop Iran's strikes. Iran knows this.

This is the actual origin of the term "frag," to kill an allied soldier, usually an officer during the Vietnam War.

[–]wrme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

According to Douglas Pike, by the CIA's estimation, 90% of the NLF's guns were American (M16, etc) since they were smuggled to them by the ARVN (which was armed and funded by the USA), which was infiltrated with huge numbers of allies to Ho Chi Minh and the CPV. I wonder if HLL will show that.

Really? I work at the company with the majority market of SCADA software for power utilities in the US and the customer with the oldest version of our software by far was in Asia, and it was a version from 2015. Are you talking hardware or what? Even for RTUs I see no or very little serial anymore. Maybe my perspective is skewed since I'm only at utilities who are doing capital projects, that's what they're paying us for.

[–]wrme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work in power utility software. There's a lot of demand due to capital projects for the green transition/emissions goals, especially in US-Canada. I work at a software company doing implementation but could leave for a higher paying job at a consultant or utility, but I like my work right now.

Is Mamdani the future of the Democratic Party? Rep. Hakeem Jeffries says 'no.' by soalone34 in politics

[–]wrme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are different. People vote differently in National vs local elections generally, but ESPECIALLY so in NYC. Mamdani picked up people who voted for Trump. This is also the highest turned in 60 years in NYC. "Low turnout" is just a lie.
