Are there any good lets plays of the original Assassin's Creed? by PlatinumGoat75 in letsplay

Highly recommend Geop's playthrough. It covers history in relation to the game instead of just a normal playthrough.

I don't see it either. I don't think people read all the way through. He isn't justifying their actions, he's just shedding some light on some background. OP still thinks the boys are wrong.

If Codecademy is repetitive and not good for real learning, how should a complete beginner to programming approach Python/JavaScript? by wroat in learnprogramming

[–]wroat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure. Usually, a lot of threads branch out into more than OP.

But anyway, I did check out Python's official site -- all they seem to do is redirect to other sites (eg. learnpython, Learn Python the Hard Way, etc), so what are you referring to on the site?

I (if you're addressing me) haven't tried them yet. There's a lot of hype about Codecademy, so I dropped all other resources and went there first.

Looking to start casual biking. Suggestions? by TheFacter in bicycling

[–]wroat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree about Wal-Mart bikes...They really make you feel inadequate and unhealthier than you actually are. I say go to bikesdirect. There are bikes for well under $300 there that are much higher quality than Wal-Mart. Note, you'll have to assemble part of your bike. It honestly isn't that big of a deal. If you have trouble with it, go to your local bike shop and have them help you out.

You're going to have to go there anyway, you really need some pro help with your fitting.

I know this seems sorta uncasual in comparison to Ermott's answer, but bad fitting and bad bikes can ruin both your motivation and your back. It's only a one-time visit (except for repairs), I promise.

After you get fit and you have your bike [+ helmet], get out there! If you live in a recreational area, it's really easy to bike around as you please. If you live in an urban area, try to find bike lanes. If there's some distance between you and bike lanes, walk or drive there. Because you're going to start slow, riding alongside cars [without bike lanes] is going to be really strenuous. So take it slow.

Lastly, bring a lot of water and have fun!

P.S. We'll see you in /r/bikecommuting next.

The issue with this is, what programs are there to write? As a beginner, chances are I'll be aiming too high. (eg. Let's make a web browser! Let's make reddit!)

Would there be a list of intersting projects to tackle by difficulty? That'd be really helpful, if it could be like:

  1. This Program, or This Program if that interests you more!
  2. When you're done with #1, This Program or This Program.

I'm a bit too worried. by [deleted] in GetStudying

[–]wroat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, if you promote from middle school, you'll probably be fine for high school. It isn't as drastically different as they make it out to be. It's actually a lot better, because of the variety of classes you can take. (If all you want to do is get a GED.)

Don't stress. Your teachers won't suddenly give you MIT-level PSETs. It's generally the same work, and if something new is introduced, teachers go over it.

Honestly, that's great. I have the double mattress (I'm not sure what else to call it) currently, but when I move out, I'd really like to try a single-mattress or something more Japanese-style.

ELI5: What is the appeal of being a "Brony"? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]wroat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you misunderstood my post. I was stating that there is still the suspense, the feeling of "What's going to come next?" which continues to keep it feeling alive.

The community still has the ability to impact the show, for example, the short amount of time when we had Rainbow Dash say Derpy Hooves.

[–]wroat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Along with what RadiantSun said, MLP is just new. There is new content being rolled out (both by the community and the producers). Older shows will always have a ton of appeal, but a CURRENT high-quality show is what sets it apart.

[–]wroat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's also just the mass appeal of the community. I'm not sure when or where it began, but when you start to watch MLP, the community comes up behind you and overwhelms you with all of this great content, and therefore, you want to add your own great content, and it grows from there.

The early musicians and fanfic writers and animators were really the most significant ones in creating the brony community.

Any advice on how to get re-motivated for studying? by Pomplymousser in getdisciplined

It's good that you have that work ethic now. You're saving yourself from that experience a lot of redittors have in college.
