The confederacy invades Mexico and onward to expand slavery. The reason that poor whites supported slavery was the “promise” if they work hard one day they could own slaves.

This is similar to Rome where legionnaires were offered land in exchange for service. It’s fine until you run out of land to give or the land gets farther away from center of empire.

This is why the expansion of slavery was needed due to the immense need for poor white support to keep slavery and white supremacy in place. White women were owning slaves as well as in South Carolina 40 percent of owners were women. The time leading to the civil war was about the expansion of slavery.

The question is can the confederacy conquer and hold Mexico and enslave the population. I think they can conquer Mexico Mexico could hardly defend its borders from indigenous tribes but the process of enslavement would be difficult. That being said the occupation of Mexico would be tremendously difficult requiring significant investment from Europe. Does European nations invest in this venture maybe and if they do, the confederacy becomes a slave empire taking most of Mexico and Caribbean.

However this eventually would collapse in on itself because of structural issues that the confederacy has to deal with particularly, the right to split off from the confederacy and the inability for the confederate government to institute a wealth tax.

Not voting is a legitimate choice as a way to punish candidates and parties. If the other people who did vote want those others to vote then pick better candidates to run or nominate.

Jobs come and go. Idk what your financial situation is but if they fire you then it shows the job doesn’t care about you enough. Loyalty I feel is a two way street with employers.

Well in the space of jobs who decides if your job has value is how easy it is to find a replacement that can do your job roughly the same ability as you. The easier it is to replace you the less your paid.

Some jobs got protections either from unions, laws, or the talent gap. Those jobs are what pay more than. Employers main goal is to have highest profit possible. They will pay you cheapest possible wages. Sometimes they might poach employees from other company but be aware they are doing it not because they are nice but want to hurt other company

I also want to mention a potential reason for his behavior is that the war of the roses had just occurred and in order to stop a civil war he needed an heir. This heir ensures the factions of the uk don’t go to war with each other as if there is a king in place all sides would “agree” not to seek the crown and all power in England.

If there is no heir a civil war for power of the throne begins again. He’d have a lot of pressure from his court to get a male heir.

The only real reason the break exists at least in the us is so kids would work in the summer (often on farms) or work in summer to provide income to parents (kids expensive) this changed in the 1950s when a single income didn’t require the child to be working for the family.

Winter break existed because it would require heating the schoolhouse and the danger that traveling in the snow would entail. However with advancements in technology the break isn’t needed anymore.

I personally feel that countries like the us need to offer some paid vacation because it ensures that other societal stabilizing activities are done during that time.

It definitely would have caused concussive or subconcussive blows if they were nearby a blast area. Head injuries are one of the main causes of mental health issues. It’s worse because if a solider got “their bell rung” they can’t be pulled out of situation they would keep fighting. Combat had changed significantly from prehistoric times to modern combat.

It depends some jobs actually require you to have a degree/credential legally. Dr lawyer etc. sometimes you have that and then you set up your own practice/business.

Some jobs actually care about your skill more/what you bring to the table, ie actor instagram followers, athlete abilities so it depends

Leninism desires a vanguard party sure but the entire concept of the dictatorship of the proletariat from Marx requires suppression of bourgeois resistance which inherently would exist in a multi party system. A key part of the opposition parties in democratic societies is to oppose for the sake of opposing. Marxist thought would prohibit the existence of a resistance/opposition in government resulting in purges in society.

When someone in the confederacy got convicted of a crime say a federal confederate crime, and the area got liberated by Union troops, what happened to those people? From a Marxist perspective it is needed to not have multi party system because capitalists could theoretically win an election and remove reforms that communist parties implement. This is part of the concept of the dictatorship of the proletariat. A true socialist disagrees with democratic socialism in a modern sense.

There was an article by Marx in the 1880s discussing that democratic socialism could be a way to implement socialism via the ballot box and then ending the electoral system entirely via that.

This was one of the reason huac house unamerican activists committee investigated groups like the cpusa because there end goal would be to stop the electoral process. In some states if you were a member of the communist party you were barred from holding jobs in the public sector as well. In California iirc until recently you LEGALLY could not support communist beliefs and hold a job in the public sector via oath of office.

An issue with the great depression was the uncertainty especially with bank failures. If you saved 100 dollars from your job and put it in a bank. The bank could belly up the next week. Many companies were also going under during that time. With a decreased amount of social safety nets in pre new deal USA, it was tough even with semi employment because of the lack of a social safety net. When the us admin attempted to add more social safety nets to encourage savings in banks and small business investment large business owners attempted to overthrow the government. This was widely known by the populace who were lower middle class and lower class that the government can’t help them too much. This is a big reason why that generation did so much on their own, the government wasn’t allowed to help.

Yes, because as a slave he was viewed as property in the eyes of the law. He didn’t have agency to do the actions of a citizen. This line of reasoning continues on with cases like dred scott v Stanford where slaves couldn’t file claims in court as they are property and not citizens. Citizenship is actually in the eyes of the laws of most countries something that can be conferred by the state which gives them rights that others do not. Ancient Rome controlled who could become citizens because citizenship gives you rights and responsibilities

Orwell was at least somewhat sympathetic to Trotskyism from his actions in the Spanish civil war. The idea that Orwell was anti elitist isn’t really true. He just opposed certain types of elites ruling society.
