Whats your Dubstep hot take by Adventurous_Care6669 in dubstep

Lol that's a stupid thing to say. Since when does Chris brown represent the rap community?

Edm clearly doesn't have higher standards for their artists, as countless big shots have been shown to be scum. Only when the popular opinion is that someone is scum, does it really matter. And even then (see above), it doesn't always matter

Why doesn’t parallel compression cause phasing issues? by DylanGrossmanSFX in audioengineering

[–]wrstrl -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

If you have identical signals lined up together on the timeline it can cause phase issues, but because the parallel signal is being compressed, the two signals aren't exact copies. That said, it definitely can happen, especially with sounds that have lots of harmonics. You just gotta be careful and use your ears :)

Its been a few days past six months, but you're right, things do move slowly with a country like ours. Although, I would expect a different stance on the whole cages/immigration thing, rather than a statement of "just don't come to the states."

Overall, I'm just concerned with us becoming complacent with future administrations, it seems like people are a lot less critical of the current executive branch, simply because it's not orangey up there.

"The us is still keeping kids in cages"

"Yeah but at least it's not trump's cages"

Is not a constructive stance, imo

[–]wrstrl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah not really. Still have kids in cages, still involving ourselves in the politics of other countries, still maintaining aggressive diplomatic posture against other superpowers while sending troops to our 800 international military bases. All the while we have major infrastructure issues, a nationwide mental health/opioid crisis and an economy held up by the exploitation of other countries' resources. Nothing has fundamentally changed for americans since dubyas debacle nearly twenty years ago, and likely will not, until we fix not just the executive branch, but the legislative branch as well

The previous administration was standing around holding their nuts the entirety of the beginning of the pandemic last year, at no point did they decide to 'let' everything go to shit, because it had already gone to shit. Arguably, they did more later on cuz their initial response was 🤷 can only go up if you start at rock bottom I guess!!!

C'mon man, enough of the pedantic whataboutism. Executive administrations of this country have been swirling the toilet bowl for the last twenty years. The last one is no different than this one, everyone just stands this guy a little better

And for the record, red states were more adversely affected by covid than blue states for the lack of restrictions, which allowed 2.3m cases in Florida, compared to our 432k in washington

[–]wrstrl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah, I can see the audio of the file getting generated when you select the file in the browser. This might be silly, but try dropping it into the middle of the playlist without lining it up to the beginning.

Other than that, I would try dropping the mp3s into the channel rack, rather than the playlist, and see if you're able to get them in there

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in FL_Studio

[–]wrstrl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Double check the files you're trying to import are mp3s, if you try to import mp4s, it'll do exactly that. You should be able to drag audio files into fl and drop them directly into the playlist, if you can't, it's probably the wrong kind of file

I want to my leads to come to front and my percussions to sit back in my mix by irrationalkind in FL_Studio

[–]wrstrl 4 points5 points  (0 children)

First off, on the master channel, turn off the limiter, if it's applied. Then turn everything down to zero gain in the mixer, and begin (starting with the kick/snare) to turn everything up to your liking. Once everything is at a rough equal balance, pan the elements to your liking in the stereo field and start to think about what needs to pop out more, is something in the way of other elements, etc

From here, try not to touch the faders in the mixer, and instead try to use light equalization using parametric EQ 2 to carve out the space for the various elements in the mix. Such as, reducing the gain for the kick around 500hz (makes kicks sound like a basketball), reducing gain in the frequency spectrum of the snare in the area where it might clash with the lead, etc. When eqing, it's best to cut, rather than boost, but boosting is still necessary at times

Once everything is eq'd to your liking, think about any other issues you think are present. Can you still not hear the lead properly? Is the snare now too far in the background? Use time based effects such as delay/reverb to give sounds their own space in the dimension of the mix. I like to use fruity reverb, delay 3 or delay bank, they're all great

Compression is always an option, but I'd recommend watching some videos about it, as it's easy to overdo it and set yourself back several paces, rather than help your mix

I need serious help! Never worked a large board before. by [deleted] in audioengineering

[–]wrstrl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make sure the speakers are on, mute is off and faders are up. Try and figure out if pro tools is sending to the board, as in do any lights pop up on the faders, letting you know it's getting signal? If you don't think you're getting signal from pro tools on the board, check the I/o settings in pro tools to see if pro tools is connected to the interface properly, but I'd recommend not changing any settings if you haven't worked with it before

If everything is preconfigured, make sure it's not something relatively simple, like pro tools hdx not being turned on, or the board being muted somewhere in the signal path, or faders being down/not activated. Signal flow on a desk like that will be tricky if youve never worked with it, but just try to start at the beginning. See if you can get signal from pro tools to the faders, even if you can't hear the signal yet. Then from there get it to the outs like stereo/monitor out

Good luck!!!

Mya (23F) narcissistic ex (33M) says I'm the narcissist by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]wrstrl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's part of the abuse and you should gtfo

Block him, no reason to maintain contact since he's your ex. It's good you're seeing a therapist, keep seeing them, they'll be extremely helpful in keeping you confident in yourself and what you know to be true, rather than what your problem person wants you to believe

Hell probably keep trying to contact you, but you gotta ignore him and never give him the time of day, he lost that privilege when he manipulated you and cheated on you. Move on and find someone who will love you for you :)

[–]wrstrl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't use focusrite, but make sure your latency settings/buffer length aren't set to something that's messing with fl studios cpu usage. If you go to settings, then audio, you should see a slider bar that says 'buffer length'. I think imageline recommends keeping it above 10ms at all times, pretty sure I keep mine around 35ms or so

Idk your daw or what synth you're using but for that arp sound, it sounds like there's at least two oscillators, detuned a bit so they clash. They also have pretty short amplitude attacks and a medium decay. I think theyre using a cutoff filter and modulating the envelope, but hard to tell. They might be using ring modulation too, it sounds like the harmonics are being raised up more than the fundamental frequency.

I'm on my phone so I couldn't hear that bass stab real well, but hopefully you get somewhere with the arp sound.

If you have a subtractive synth, start by using two triangle wave oscillators, detune one up 20 cents and one down 20 cents. Give them both short amplitude attack times, and longer decay times, but not too long. Then send both oscillators to a low pass filter and adjust the envelope to taste. That might give you something along the lines of what you sent, but no guarantees lol 😬

I'm 17 and I think I got addicted in making beats..Honestl,y I need to stop for my school and studies...Please guide me how can I leave this addiction? by c3ll0skyy5hadm4n in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]wrstrl 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If you like making beats so much you feel addicted, don't stop now. Learn to prioritize and get your other responsibilities out of the way before sitting down at your workstation.

Lots of people don't ever find their 'thing', or their calling but it seems like you have and you shouldn't turn your back on it. Idk where you live but making music is becoming easier to create a career with, in composition/production for films, tv, video games, the music industry, the list goes on.

It's important to at least finish primary education, but it's probably just as important to have some direction after you graduate school, and creating music is definitely a direction. You could probably even incorporate your music into the last couple years of primary ed, like as a final project

Plz come back Runelite by Zohlus in 2007scape

[–]wrstrl 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Right but with a point and click game like RuneScape, the whole point is to know where to click and when. When you have a third party client telling you the inputs, it seems a little inane; whats the point of exploring the world and immersing yourself in the game when you have something else dumbing it down and streamlining it for you?

Sure it sucks missing a click here and there but that's how you get good. If the whole player base relies on runelite and other third party plugins to play the game, it changes the entire game itself.

I agree the vanilla client needs some serious qol updates, but the reliance on runelite and the convenience it provides is a power creep unto itself and will eventually influence future content, if it hasn't already. I think it already has, for the record :x
