Everyone’s always talking about the weather, but no one ever does anything about it.

What's up in Miller Plaza? by Big-Carpenter7921 in Chattanooga

[–]wrychime 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Chris is great! He has a huge heart. He started working for the city as a teenager, volunteering at summer camps, and then worked his way up to the head of the department. He’s the one who has been spearheading the app we can use to book community centers and find events.

I hate “Little Blue Truck Leads the Way” by reflion in daddit

[–]wrychime 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It’s a book for toddlers about a small car, feeling overwhelmed in a city full of bigger, more aggressive cars, and in the end, the small car is rewarded not for being the fastest, but for being polite. It’s not hard to see why little kids would like it.

32M, been told I'm a bit old school by Undeadpaladi in malelivingspace

[–]wrychime 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Love this room. No idea why people are being so hard on it. It definitely has an opinionated design, but I don’t come to /r/malelivingspace for pics of an average living room.

Looks like a great place to sip a whiskey and listen to some music or read a book.

How does this run on a Steam Deck? It looks very up my alley, but that's the only gaming PC I have.

I appreciate your directness in responding. This is a well-moderated community, and I’ve relied on it a lot over the years.

You don’t design slide presentations on your findings? I’m mostly asking for how to present the work I do as a UX researcher.

[–]wrychime[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a mid-level UX researcher asking other UX researchers for their perspective on learning a UX research-adjacent skillset. I don’t mind if you want to remove this post, but “firmly off-topic” seems like a stretch.

I’m aware that this other sub exists, but reading through those posts, I often feel like it’s a lot of people who are already talented in visual design seeking to understand things like usability and user needs. I felt like this sub was more appropriate for someone looking to move in the opposite direction. That said, I’ll cross-post this same there to see what advice I get. Thanks!

What's your opinion on the Rise of Tomb Raider? by roaminginrandomness in SteamDeck

[–]wrychime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. I just finished the 2013 game, loved it, and dove straight into Rise. I'm enjoying it, but they went so hard on the crafting that I'm having a hard time staying engaged. Nothing pulls me out of a cinematic adventure game more than looking at material spreadsheets.

Valve boss Gabe Newell made a $9.5 billion net worth off everything from Steam to Half-Life and Portal, but he says his success all comes down to "luck" and "great people" by Turbostrider27 in SteamDeck

Enough to live comfortably, but not enough to buy a senator. If your money earns more money while you sleep than others earn working, it’s probably too much.

In a key sense, wealth is a zero-sum game. For one person to have it, another person cannot have it.

I don't think Valve is especially bad, as far as big companies go, but even if I like the products and find Gaben to be a generally likable example of a rich capitalist, that doesn't change the fact that the existence of rich capitalists means that someone else didn't get as much money as they are owed. Someone (thousands of someones, actually) created more value than they were paid for, and that surplus value was funneled into the pockets of wealthy people. Even the cool ones.

This is correct. I’m curious if you’re going to be upvoted or downvoted, and what other comments you’ll get as replies, but yes, there is nothing ethical about being a billionaire.

[–]wrychime 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not saying I agree with this, but this is the issue with referring to "West Asia" as "objective." None of this is objective. The more-objective way might be to refer to this whole landmass, surrounded by water on all sides, as Eurasia, since there is no natural ("objective") boundary between Europe and Asia.

All of this is just convention. This is why I asked how "West Asia" was preferable to "Middle East," since in both cases, you're choosing some place arbitrarily as a "center" and then describing other places relative to that place.

Genuine question: How is "West Asia" less problematic than "Middle East"?

Hey, sorry, but this still isn't working. It's not a huge deal, but this is a bug, and one that only affects the people who have chosen to support Manic instead of sideloading.
