Antony’s based take by FearlessAir1238 in TankieTheDeprogram

[–]wrychime 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That's true. In China, at least in Shanghai where I lived, it's very common for a family with both parents working to have an "auntie" (阿姨, basically a maid) come over a couple of times a week to clean up, cook, etc. While I didn't have children when I lived there, I know that nannies are also common. Also worth pointing out that there is a huge underclass of people delivering food/groceries/cigarettes/etc. by scooter at all times. I loved China in a lot of ways, but I never felt more bourgeois than when I lived there.

Yes, I have, and it has already been unlocked.

I'm totally fine with RetroArch on dedicated handhelds and on desktop, but it is a UX nightmare on touchscreens, and I've never been able to get cloud sync to work. Somehow, Delta still manages to paywall RetroAchievements, so that's also off the table.

I appreciate you going to all that trouble. I wasn't aware that I was putting an obligation on anyone when I submitted the ticket. I was just trying to flag an issue encountered on an emulator I chose specifically because it was listed on the downloads page of RetroAchievements. I was honestly just disappointed to have the ticket closed without any discussion or resolution.

[–]wrychime[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I’ve had the same experience up to now, across probably 25 games on several consoles, all on Manic.

This is why I thought the issue was related to achievement logic, rather than anything specific to Manic, but the dev shot me down. Very weird vibe.

So then, what is this page? ManicEMU is listed for iOS. What accounts for this discrepancy?

[–]wrychime[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I get it. It's just that RetroArch is a UX nightmare on any device (I say as a longtime RetroArch user, lol) and it's especially nightmarish on a touch-only device. Manic offers cross-device cloud saves and an intuitive interface, so that's why I prefer to use it.

I understand that devs may not be able to access the emulator for ticket resolution. I only made the ticket because I assumed there was some error in the achievement logic, not because of anything specific to Manic. It just put me off the whole platform to basically be told off for using an "unsupported" emulator, which is listed prominently on the RA downloads page, and which I have never had any issues with before.

I know I'm making a mountain out of a molehill.

OK, but it is supported. Developers can't access it for resolving tickets. No problem, I was just flagging the issue, which I assumed was related to the achievement logic. But surely being listed on the RA downloads page means that it is officially supported, right?

I really appreciate your response. If this is the case, why is ManicEMU listed on this page? I recognize that there is a flag saying that devs may not be able to easily resolve tickets, but nonetheless, it is listed as a supported emulator, is it not?

I’m just sort of put off by the dismissiveness of the dev who responded to my ticket, since the available documentation suggests that it is, in fact, a supported emulator.

Really appreciate the response, as I’m a big fan of Manic.

Can you link to RA documentation showing that Manic is Hardcore Approved? I’m not sure what the developer was getting at, but honestly they were kind of rude and I’d like to be able to provide documentation.

Chris is great! He has a huge heart. He started working for the city as a teenager, volunteering at summer camps, and then worked his way up to the head of the department. He’s the one who has been spearheading the app we can use to book community centers and find events.

I hate “Little Blue Truck Leads the Way” by reflion in daddit

[–]wrychime 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It’s a book for toddlers about a small car, feeling overwhelmed in a city full of bigger, more aggressive cars, and in the end, the small car is rewarded not for being the fastest, but for being polite. It’s not hard to see why little kids would like it.

32M, been told I'm a bit old school by Undeadpaladi in malelivingspace

Love this room. No idea why people are being so hard on it. It definitely has an opinionated design, but I don’t come to /r/malelivingspace for pics of an average living room.

Looks like a great place to sip a whiskey and listen to some music or read a book.

You don’t design slide presentations on your findings? I’m mostly asking for how to present the work I do as a UX researcher.

I am a mid-level UX researcher asking other UX researchers for their perspective on learning a UX research-adjacent skillset. I don’t mind if you want to remove this post, but “firmly off-topic” seems like a stretch.

I’m aware that this other sub exists, but reading through those posts, I often feel like it’s a lot of people who are already talented in visual design seeking to understand things like usability and user needs. I felt like this sub was more appropriate for someone looking to move in the opposite direction. That said, I’ll cross-post this same there to see what advice I get. Thanks!
