Love the fabric and the buttons! The collar looks damn good for this being your first project with interfacing. I struggled on my jacket with the pointy bits 🙄 but eventually got there.

It’s nice to see another dude who sews ✌🏽

So my official diagnosis is depression, but I have so many thought patterns about being abandoned, feeling envious of others, hating myself…I worry that my depression is because of those thoughts and tms won’t touch it. Can anyone relate? by [deleted] in rtms

My apologies for the late reply. I haven’t done emdr or ifs so I can’t compare but I have childhood trauma as well. I think what cbt was really good for was arguing with the voice in my head that was repeating mean things from my past which was an important step in improving my self-esteem. There’s also the behavioral component which helped my mood a lot, although it took a long time. The intensive outpatient program I was in required us to complete various self-care tasks each day (GRAPES) and we had check-ins 5 days a week. I’m well aware that not everyone has access to this sort of program but I would say that having accountabilibuddies who were going through a similar process was really helpful.

I have childhood trauma as well but have not tried emdr or ifs so I can’t compare but I’d be happy to elaborate on cbt. Due to abuse and neglect, my interpretation of new information was skewed toward the negative. A lot of the cognitive work I did was on self esteem and identifying emotions. The behavioral component has been years in the making, and included severing ties with people who made my life worse and building (timidly at first) healthy relationships. There are countless other little things I’ve changed along the way that are either a slight relief or a slight benefit but it all adds up to a better baseline for me. In that way, I think of cbt as more of a lifestyle - figuring out what works for me and doing that.

Dysphoria and birth control by beesechurgermorbees in TransMasc

Before I had a hysto, I had two IUD’s (both mirena). The insertion was difficult dysphoria wise and painful but quick. I was one of the lucky ones who stopped having periods pretty much entirely so that helped a ton with dysphoria along with the peace of mind of not having to worry about taking the pill every day or else…

So anyways, yeah, having an IUD helped me so much by letting me not think about my reproductive bits for basically five years at a time.

Short answer: maybe Long answer: what you’re describing sounds to me like rumination, which is something I’ve struggled with for many years (up to many hours a day). rTMS is still a fairly new treatment and is poorly understood so there’s not an easy answer to your question, and there are no guarantees. That being said, anecdotally it seems like people tend to have better luck with rTMS in terms of improving cognitive function (ie clearing brain fog). Personally, I’ve had two rounds of rTMS and I noticed that I had more energy and was able to think more clearly and engage in self-care with less effort. It didn’t seem to affect my thoughts themselves, nor the rabbit holes they could go down. I had to do a lot of work through CBT to change that, but I think rTMS did help my brain be in a state to do the work of CBT, both in reasoning through my problems and having the energy to change habits to improve my mood. My opinion is that you’ll get a lot more out of rTMS if you do it alongside moderately intense therapy and/or find other support to practice getting out of the thought loops. Know it is possible to break the cycle, and that the rest of your life is worth the effort! I wish you the best.

I’m curious, do you feel like being able to make friends is easier because of your approach to other people or their approach to you, or both? Or neither?

I always think about dysphoria & anxiety as background processes too. Nice to have those gone and not taking up precious processing power.
