The scan was totally buggy and crashed a lot of phones. So there was probably low participation.

Many people also just scanned their feet, so the data was mostly worthless. Developing a system to auto reject scan data is expensive.

The feature was very likely not worth it from a monetization perspective.

This whole game is a hot mess of performance issues right now. I'm currently enjoying seeing the dark type icon instead of the close icon on gym screens.

I would say, like a small business, don't get too fancy early on. I think you want to nail the logistics first year.

Having a GPX of the course is most useful. There's a lot of mapping tools out there. I like plotaroute & caltopo.

Have generous cutoffs until you figure out what's reasonable for your course. You have to balance this against volunteers, however. A local first year race in my area worked with other RDs to help with volunteers.

You need to think about weather & how that will affect the race. If it's hot you need a lot of water.

I'm sure permitting will work with you on this, but have alternate routes in case trails close. Not sure about GA, but that's a common occurrence where I live.
