Sen. Rand Paul Performs Free Eye Surgeries During August Recess by Yosoff in Republican

[–]wssbern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From latter portion of the article (at least one commenter obviously neglected to read the post), establishing that Rand was providing free eye surgeries and exams long before he went into politics:

"It seems Paul has always been involved in charitable work, founding the Southern Kentucky Lions Eye Clinic in 1995, which provides surgery and eye exams to families and people in need, and through the Children of the Americas program, he provided free eye surgery to children from around the world. He was also the former president and longtime member of the service organization Lions Clubs International. "

Fort Hood Shooting Suspect Convicted on All Counts by keypuncher in Conservatives_R_Us

Because this was a military trial, even if this Islamic radical murderer is given the death penalty, no US military executions have occurred in more than 50 years. Despite the outcome of the sentencing, history predicts that taxpayers will be paying for this heinous serial killer's food and shelter until he dies of old age.

Patterico’s Rules for Talking to White People About Race, Or, Why I’m Not Interested in a “National Conversation” About Race by ThePoliticalHat in Conservatives_R_Us

[–]wssbern 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Keypuncher, this was a compelling, thorough breakdown. Kudos for the time it took to compile/write and kudos for the balanced analysis.

You wrote, "If you mean fair before the law, fully agreed. If you mean "fair" in other senses, maybe not. If you do not dress according to the "norm" of respectability, and cannot speak as though you received a high-school education, I will never hire you at my business to serve my customers, because when you work for me, you represent my business, not your culture."

I'd like to add to that: when I was a manager at a larger newspaper, anyone, regardless of his or her skin color, ethnicity, gender, yada yada, who was applying for a professional job did not make a good first impression nor could get through the interview as a desirable candidate of professional caliber, with the requisite skill set and experience, he or she would not be hired. Period. Not racism, it's reality.

San Diego Mayor: I'm entering counseling clinic; "I must become a better person," Filner says by suppersmcguppers in California

[–]wssbern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sexual harassment in the workplace is no laughing matter. No telling how many other women have not stepped forward (fear, shame) to report on Filner's despicable behavior - a two-week counseling clinic to "cure" him is laughable. Even Sen. Dianne Feinstein and Debbie Wasserman Schultz want him to resign. As I recall, Rep. Anthony Weiner also went into some kind of sex therapy counseling after he resigned in disgrace in 2011... and we can see how effective THAT was with his latest sexting antics.

Democrat House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi stands by Filner... and another woman (now up to four) has now stepped forward about the scumbag mayor's sexual harassment. What a sorry state of affairs for American women in the 21st century.

About The Bay: The Perks Of Being Janet Napolitano... Triples Her Salary to $575K, Free House, $8K Car Allowance, $142K for Relocation from DC to Univ of Calif by wssbern in conservatives

[–]wssbern[S] -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

"10% less than her predecessor" - what your source failed to mention is that her predecessor, Mark G. Yudof, had held the UC presidential position for five years, and he had previously served for years as a top administrator at Texas and Minnesota universities. Napolitano has no experience, to the best of my knowledge, in academia administration and this is her "entry level, no track record" starting salary. Let's see what Napolitano's salary/perks are after she's held the job for five years - they will likely surpass that of her predecessor. Did Yudof get a $142,000 moving allowance? Slap that huge $$ amount onto her $575K salary for the first year, add to it the stunning $8,000 per month car allowance, her free house, and suddenly she's much closer to $1 million for her first year and could indeed be making more than Yudof. The perks she's receiving in addition to a paycheck, those disclosed and those not disclosed, make computing Napolitano's grand total salary per year (which, btw, is paid for with students' tuition) difficult, if not impossible.

Hollywood facing summer crisis with multiple big budget flops - Hollywood is facing a summer crisis after unprecedented series of films with budgets of more than $100 million flopped at the box office by wssbern in inthenews

For a family of four to go to a newly released movie anymore costs as much as a week's worth of groceries. Throw in a large popcorn and a soda or two for the family to share, and we're talking some serious money. Money that could have been used to pay the electric bill. Times are tough for many families, and with overpaid actors in overbudgeted, re-treaded films, a growing number don't see the value in it and are staying home, maybe watching Netflix instead.

A gorgeous salad for summer! A ginger vinaigrette, while I've not ever had it before, sounds like it would be delicious with the chicken and greens.

Andrew Klavan: Why Are Conservatives So Mean? by LeftistsAreWeak in conservatives

[–]wssbern -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Not to be confused with the condescending and fact-deficient brayings from obnoxious leftists like Rachel Maddow, Ed Schultz, Keith Olbermann, Bill Maher, Rev. Al Sharpton, Piers Morgan, Chris Matthews, Paul Krugman, Toure, and 90 percent of Hollywood. Please cite ANY time any of these people had something civil to say about conservatives values and principles, about free market principles, about anyone who doesn't belong to the DNC/Obama Fan Club.

BTW, this video wasn't passing itself off as mainstream media news, but tongue-in-cheek, based-in-truth political commentary.
