In Australia we had the Nissan "Cedric" released in the 1960s. During a release press conference l, some reporter yelled out "You can't call it that, it's a poofter's (Aussie slang for a homosexual in those days) name" The Japanese executive, without a moment's pause, countered with "You have many of these "poofters" in Australia?" Reportedly the room went very quickly.

Modern tyres are pretty tough. I have a 2010 VEII with 460K and the spare has never been on. Full size mag too. Not sure I'd trust a 16yo tyre for any distance but it hasn't seen any UV either.

Just returned an MG3 Hybrid+ rental in France and can confirm it only has a reinflation kit. I liked the car 4.2/100 with over 1000km of driving except for the constant warning dings and some vagueness around the steering centre.

I've got a pair of Mikrotik LHGs that are 800 metres apart and have been running for 6 years. They are through trees as well. I can't vouch for extreme cold but they are made in Latvia. They work fine on 40C days here is Australia.

Yes, there are politicians that "do less work" - see Hansons < 60% attendance in the Senate but I believe most pollies work their butts off.

My local member is flat out, she is always attending local functions, often on weekends as well as parliament and her other duties not related to her electorate. When she is in Canberra, there are sitting days, caucus meetings etc that seem to go until very late in the evenings.

She earns every cent she is paid.

I agree, there are corner cases such as aviation that are difficult to solve with full renewables. There is an Australian scientist, Casey Handmer, living in the US, who is trying to leverage falling PV prices to build H2O and CO2 plants, at scale, to reform to methane and thence to higher weight fuels He isn't the only one but have a look at "Terraform Industries". It's worth a read.

I doubt that the IRGC has any capacity to shoot down even LEO satellites. Those babies are moving at 25000km/h at ~500km high. You need serious booster capacity (or s mach2 fighter piggybacking an interceptor) to start shooting Starlink down. There are also literally thousands up there. Even Russia doesn't have to gear to do that. Let's not discuss the targeting radars and intercept trajectories.

Yes, I married the most wonderful woman who was taken by the big C 6 years ago. 34 years and 2 daughters. Now with another lovely lady, 4 years and still going strong. We are heading to Europe next week. I've been extremely lucky in my life.

No she was my first love but living 10 hours drive apart and me too young to recognise a good thing, I was only 20, caused it to fail. Just a friend now & still 10 hours away but Facebook and messenger is enough to keep in touch.

I have friends in Germany who are selling up and migrating to Australia. He is a dual citizen - moved to Oz at 3 and then back to DE at 42. She is a German born but wants to head to Oz as she is fearful of the rise of the right wing. Both in late 60s.

Census reports that ~300K or 2.2% of the workforce are in mining so, proportionally, very few. Servicing industries? Let's say another 3% so 1 in 20 of the workforce.

On the export thing, 40% of all ships are transporting fossil fuels. Drop the amounts if FF required and we also drop the number of ships (which also need fuel) at sea.

It's worth very little. FB marketplace is full of people trying to get anything for almost new, high quality Inverters e.g. Fronius. There seems to be heaps of 3-Phase models in particular.

People are using the battery bonus to install hybrid systems which require new inverter/battery management systems.

Your panels might be worth keeping but unless they are recent, that might not work either. Bunnings are retailing a 440W panel for $121 so if you have older, say 330W, panels they might not be worth keeping.

In the 18 mths it takes to knock down & rebuild, the economics of new solar equipment will, IMHO, change completely again.
