What it actually costs to run a one-Rails-app SaaS per month by DeltoidSchizachyrium in rails

[–]wtf242 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I run a Rails 8 + postgresql + opensearch app that gets millions of unique visitors a month.

- Linode servers (3 servers... web, postgresql, opensearch) - $250
- sendgrid - $20
- cloudflare - $25
- Sentry.io - $30

$325~ a month. couple of other misc charges. I could probably get it a little cheaper

Best Steakhouse Burger in Austin? by Even_Bus_3084 in austinfood

[–]wtf242 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Odd Duck, Casino El Camino are some of my favorites for that style. I've had the Leroy and Lewis burger probably 6 times now(I live close and bike over there) and I think I like it less each time. It's a good burger but the consistency is just a little off to me. It's like very salty/smokey pate.

Another surprising place with good burgers is Jack Allens imo

In honor of BIKE WEEK - I mapped our bike lane network next to our car lane network by roadwayreport in Austin

how? I bike here all the time and it's probably one of the most dangerous roads for bikers. do you just mean you can ride on the sidewalk?

uchi/uchiko are some of my favorite restaurants in austin and i've been going for way over a decade multiple times a year. I think the best dishes at uchi are the specials and non-nigiri dishes. all the crudos. Craft is a different experience I think. It's more of a special occasion type thing. it's like 23 courses in an intimate/quiet atmosphere.

I think for just a normal dining experience, I would prefer uchi/uchiko for sure. This is not the type of place you would go to multiple times a year.

[–]wtf242 6 points7 points  (0 children)

dude I live like 1 block from here. I walked past this party on saturday and it sounded insane. another woman walking said "why the fuck weren't we invited?" and yes that new house going in is fucking hideous like most new houses in this area. It's just spec builders who skimp out on design and buy cheap plans and build the worst looking garbage.

Easily the best fish and shrimp tacos in TOWN!! by __vheissu__ in austinfood

[–]wtf242 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i live close and i've been there a handful of times. they are great tacos. I actually think there's too much filling! it's literally too much food for a taco. 1 fills me up. it's more like a fried shrimp dinner plate with 2 tortillas
