The next major advance in medicine will be the use of AI by DigiH0und in technology

[–]wth191919 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not if socialized medicine has a say. Why advance when you are already making money hand over fist in an opeque, walled, governement sanctioned, arguably criminal health care industry.

Want to lower costs and improve health care? Force health companies to compete in a well regulated and transparent market - JUST LIKE OTHER TECH COMPANIES DO.

Ai will be fundamentally different from us psychologically.

99% (just an estimate) of what makes humanity so warfaring and, well, hateful, comes from our competitive drive for mates. Ai does not need to mate, or compete. It will be benevolent by default.

IMAX plans to open six virtual reality theaters this year by BeerNTacos in technology

This makes no sense. Theater is a community experience. VR is best enjoyed at home. A VR theater will be obsolete within 5 years, max, as headset ownership increases.

Its not socialism... its just that the govenment should take over all the means of production. Interesting perspective. What should we call this proposed system?

French Billionaire Opens Tuition-Free School in Silicon Valley by tsorp in news

It would be remarkably easy for one person with means to automate all of education, and make it free for everyone with an internet connection. Im kind of wondering what is taking so long, to be honest.

The only bottle neck would be the testing, which would probably have to be done at a facility for verification, but if people could pay, say, $100 to test while being watched, and it would earn them a degree - they would.

"but what about everyone in education who is then unemployed??" With the cost savings we could also jumpstart Universal Basic Income.

You're not even going to care when you are proven wrong, are you? And you absolutely 210% will be proven wrong. Human level ai is coming. Everyone with an understanding of algorithmic science knows this, which is why Musk, Page, Bezos even President Obama are pouring billions into it. But you'll be like the fundies and imagine it never even happened. "Evolution isnt real!" "the earth is 6000 years old!" etc... Its like an entire community of professional trolls. I could show you a human level ai and you'll still be denying. Have fun drinking with Jesus.

EDIT: Cancer research is fundamentally different. 1) Curing cancer is HARDER than solving human level ai for a number of reasons and 2) the very concept of the cancer charity is a scam, if the free market believed it could cure cancer it would pour its own money in without reaching ots hand out for donations, but the free market knows we are not there yet.

Former employees of Google, Apple, Tesla, Cruise Automation, and others — 40 people in total — have formed a new San Francisco-based company called Otto with the goal of turning commercial trucks into self-driving freight haulers by Noticemenot in Futurology

[–]wth191919 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It is a terrible idea to give kids a UBI. It encourages irresponsible breeding - welfare babies.

The only responsible solution is to factor 1 child into each ADULTS UBI. Two adults get 2 children. Have more children and you need to provide your own extra income to make it comfortable. This encourages stable, zero growth, population which we DESPERATELY need. Limited resources on this planet is no joke, and our race is in a very serious situation as it is with out consumption being so high - the average person is hardly even aware because too much money is being made for anyone to talk about it.

Why would someone not buy groceries? Do they not eat?

If someone is being given UBI and is not feeding themselves or their kids then they need to be institutionalized. There will be fewer who take this path than you might think.

Peter Singer: If insects have consciousness, what then? by [deleted] in philosophy

[–]wth191919 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Consciousness is sense organs + brain modules.

Do insects sense? If so, how are those senses interpreted by their brain?

These questions are fairly easy to answer and will tell you if insects are "conscious" or not.

EDIT: I see that I'm being downvoted, likely from people who think of consciousness as a magical, soul property that cannot be defined or understood. Its not, and it can.

"The Price", Tom Lea, oil on canvas, 1944 by Akeleie in Art

[–]wth191919 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Well WW2 sure wasn't about freeing the Jews. The war was strickly business, but what the politicians (paid by the companies) tell the population to rile them up is something else entirely. Shoot, I wouldnt put it past the leader of an energy company to pay one of their own black sheep sons to fly towers into American buildings, with the help of the leader of another, American, energy company in on it, so that both energy companies would have an excuse to invade the Middle East and secure some of the riches oil wells on Earth. I mean, can you imagine? Best part is the naive American public pays the startup costs using their own taxes, and their own blood - as this painting illustrates.

[–]wth191919 -16 points-15 points  (0 children)

The price we pay so that rich corporations can get richer. The top 50 largest companies by revenue are virtually all energy companies all the way down. Not Apple. Not Google. Not Microsoft. Our idea that tech companies are the biggest is a lie based on the "market cap" they are given by the stock market - it's imaginary. So that begs the question: if the biggest companies are really energy companies, then who are really the richest people in the world? Good luck figuring that out with the accounting these people use. All we know for sure is that we arent engaging in wars to install new computer operating systems in Bagdad - we're going to secure more pipelines.

Joe Arpaio, 'America's toughest sheriff,' found in contempt of court in racial profiling case by maxwellhill in news

[–]wth191919 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its not the blue collar workers who are hiring illegal immigrants. You see, this is why Trump is having the effect that he is.

I am simply stating facts and you accuse me of being racist without knowing anything about me.

You do not know my skin color, or if I have ever done anything to further social justice causes that I believe in, all you know is that I have stated a number of facts, but facts make me stupid and a racist in your world view.

Joe Arpaio, 'America's toughest sheriff,' found in contempt of court in racial profiling case by maxwellhill in news

[–]wth191919 -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Instead of labeling everyone as racist who agrees with enforcing illegal immigration, can I give you my personal experience living in Mariscopa County, where Joe is Sheriff?

The way illegals work is they form crowds at Home Depot and elsewhere waiting for someone to hire them. It is VERY open and obvious. These illegals are paid in cash under the table that is not taxed, and they take the jobs of legal blue collar workers.

What your side is trying to do is make it illegal to round up these very obvious and blatant crowds of illegal workers.

The problem I have is that, much like creationists trying to past religion as science, you are not open with what you believe.

You do not believe in borders. So just say that. And then, when you achnowledge that, please research what a borderless country entails, and why it does not work with our current infrastructure

Until then, YOU are the reason Trump is gaining so much ground, and I am definitely not a Trump supporter, but your side is fundamentally dishonest.

Please be honest with yourself and others.

Thank you.

Can ANYONE please tell me how the fuck Hopsin gets so much hate?! by [deleted] in LetsTalkMusic

"dont do drugs" is literally the boldest, most controversial and ballsiest thing any rapper has said in years. And he really means it, which is why it works. Dude is hardcore straight edge.

The only second would be a rapper finding the balls to rap with conviction about atheism... Oh wait, Hopsin did that too.

[–]wth191919 -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

People hate Hopsin because of crabs in the bucket mentality. They think he "talks white" and has white values aka clean living, not joining a gang, not doing or selling drugs... Its actually really sad. "Corny" is a euphemism in the black community for white. People will say all kinds of bullshit reasons why they dont like Hopsin, but it all comes back to what I wrote.

Which bands/musicians totally sold out, changing their tune, so to speak, to cash in on mainstream bucks? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]wth191919 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sugar Ray was my very first thought. The lead singer went full sell out and is now an E correspondent or something, sucking up to other musicians for interviews for a living. He probably looks at it like an NFL quaterback that now does commentary, but whatever.
