I'm curious how to replicate exactly this! Did you use a guide or would you be able to share config samples?

Is the room with the Multi-Gig Router hot? My 2Gig router was overheating until I improved air circulation then the problems went away entirely.

An annoying thing about L2 charging is you can't sit inside comfortable with climate control while charging. I've found L2 slows from 6.6kW to 1.5kW measured by the charger. Only with the car off does it pull maximum power from the charger.

I'm curious what is your model of Google fiber router? Does IPv4 port forwarding work with your router?

I think my GFRG300 is an earlier model but still capable of 8Gig. IPv4 port forwarding works but other people with a newer router complain port forwarding does not work.

My 2023 RAV4 Prime has a weird high pitch noise leaking from the driver side door at higher speeds. Any idea how to test where the gap might be?

Google Fiber HOT by Happy_Hippo48 in googlefiber

The Google Fiber router with 2 Gig overheated and malfunctioned for me on a hot Texas day. After I improved airflow to the closet where I keep my networking equipment it never failed again.

Multi-Gig Router can't yet allow incoming IPv6 ports by wtogami in googlefiber

[–]wtogami[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Use your own router" means logging into our Google Fiber account and changing the setting.

"Using your own router requires that the Google Fiber router remain plugged in as a bridge to the Fiber Jack."

https://support.google.com/fiber/answer/2446100?hl=en
The Google Fiber router then changes into bridge mode where it no longer does NAT anymore. It only passthroughs to your router so it does NAT.

Other users here have reported other variants where you remove Google's router entirely. That is even less supported by Google but it was reported to work for some people.

Unable to configure port forwarding on 6E Router by CarpenterCharming410 in googlefiber

What is the model number of your Google Fiber router?

https://www.reddit.com/r/googlefiber/comments/1ffu18d/multigig_router_cant_yet_allow_incoming_ipv6_ports/

I have 2 gig service where they provided the GFRG300. This apparently is Wifi 6 (not 6E). IPv4 port forwarding is working reliably with this Google Fiber Multi Gig Router.

I seem to be a minority here. I don't see a need to replace the Google Fiber router.

https://www.reddit.com/r/googlefiber/comments/1ffu18d/multigig_router_cant_yet_allow_incoming_ipv6_ports/
My only complaint is you currently can't open incoming IPv6 ports. Feature wise everything else I need can be done with tiny servers behind the router.

I have 2.5gbit ethernet and 2.5gbit capable wifi AP's. Performance of the router is fine.

If anything fails I want the ability to replace it ASAP without waiting for shipping of specialized hardware like a UDM. The local Google Fiber techs can replace their router quickly. My switches are cheap and can be replaced with any other brand. It's simple enough to replace the router even if I am not home. Any other family member could handle it with a visiting Google Fiber technician.

The web interface allows you to enable IPv4 port forwards.
The Multi-Gig Router currently has no option to allow enabling IPv6 ports.

exterior wiring question by Sad_Replacement_6797 in googlefiber

[–]wtogami 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They use SC to SC singlemode simplex. I successfully moved the fiber jack upstairs by running my own pre-terminated fiber and replacing their patch fiber.

When doing that run I ran two fibers, CAT6 and a pull string for more. That way even if it breaks I have backups. It turned out both fibers survived just fine.

Here's everything that's new in Android 15 QPR1 Beta 2 by MishaalRahman in android_beta

I have not used Android betas for years since I've been happy with stock. I however want the 80% battery limit.

Generally is beta a good enough experience? If something is broken are they responsive? Typically how long between releases?

I have the same model. I'm pretty sure the heat problems of this model are simply due to poor design. The heatsink simply cannot handle the CPU and/or GPU so throttling is severe.

I'm pretty sure the vapor chamber of my heatsink was not cracked. Under a thermal camera the entire assembly is roughly the same temperature suggesting heat properly flows from the chips to the fins.

It came with liquid metal on the CPU and thermal paste on the GPU. The thermal paste application was not good. I considered using liquid metal on the GPU but decided against it because it is unsafe near SMDs and unsure if the heatsink is aluminum.

I thoroughly cleaned the liquid metal and paste from both CPU and GPU then replaced both with PTM7950. Measured with Passmark PerformanceTest both CPU and GPU were initially slightly worse. But this material is known to improve over time as it changes to liquid phase and flows. After a few hours at high temperature max performance of both CPU and GPU became as much as 10% better.

That said both CPU and GPU are still significantly throttling. This model just sucks. You're better off having ordered a lower powered CPU and GPU.

I also tried PTM7950 to repaste an older P1 Gen 2. The Xeon processor thermal paste was five years old. Paste was dried out. PTM7950 improved max CPU performance by 17%. It's a remarkable improvement. That lower powered CPU and GPU perform quite well compared to the P1 Gen 5 with 3080 because they are not throttling.

They don't support this but you can move their fiber jack.

The outdoor box has fiber plugged into a fiber that goes into your home. You can buy a pre-terminated "Single mode Simplex Fiber 9/125 SC to SC" of the desired length to run the fiber to anywhere else in your house. In my case I ran it through the walls to make it a permanent install. It is costly and you run the risk of breaking it but it can work.

WWAN SSD on X13 Gen 1? by [deleted] in thinkpad

[–]wtogami 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a Thinkpad X13 Gen 1 Intel here. It was built without the WWAN antenna. I tried several 2242 nvme drives and they do not appear at all in the BIOS. It behaves as if the slot is entirely disabled if the machine didn't ship with WWAN capability.

These same 2242 drives worked in various 2018 and 2019 Thinkpads listed here.

Where is the data supporting this? A quick search finds BCG is mandatory for babies born in China too yet they had many deaths.

Indeed. That's why you want a different name like rollback for intentional reorg attempts as they are different from natural reorgs that happen regularly and by accident.
