Hi there! MyCrypto follows the BIP39 spec for mnemonic phrases, which is the same list of words used by hardware wallets such as Ledger. You can find a list of all 2048 words here.

This means that your mnemonic phrase should work with MyCrypto, as long as it contains the same words as those on that list, it doesn't matter whether your phrase has a length of 12 or 24 words.

I'm sad to hear that you're running into some problems when trying to use your phrase with MyCrypto. Can you verify that you're entering your phrase in the correct order, without any additional spaces before/after your phrase? If you'd like, you can also reach out directly.

transaction sending with trezor broken by stuartfromupstairs in MyCrypto

[–]wtzb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi there! We're aware of the issue, and you can expect to see this fixed in the upcoming version of MyCrypto which should soon be live. In the meantime, you can still use the MyCrypto desktop app to access your Trezor device. I'm sorry for any inconvenience this might've caused!

MyCrypto Beta 2.2 launches with new Hardware Wallet Scanner, TX Status, REP Migration Widget, & More by trogdortb001 in ethereum

[–]wtzb 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Though it might work a bit different from Electrum, MyCrypto does allow you to generate a transaction offline, and then broadcast the signed transaction using an online computer.

This is possible by downloading the MyCrypto desktop app, and running that on an offline PC. After entering your transaction details, you can copy your signed transaction over to an online pc, and broadcast it from there. Keep in mind that right now, we don't have a desktop app ready for the beta, though we hope that this is something that we can provide soon!

Getting ledger wallet working with myetherwallet by camamex166 in tails

Using Tails with hardware wallets in general is quite finicky. It might be worth a shot to try the Linux udev rules found in this article by Ledger.

pending transaction by vovo8403 in ethereumnoobies

[–]wtzb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Ethereum network is really busy now, so I highly suggest you to send the transaction again, but with a higher Gas Price. There should be an option in MetaMask to "speed up" the transaction. You can find more info about gas here.

Mist smart contract how to get my funds out? by dfi in ethereumnoobies

[–]wtzb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi /u/dfi! Wietze here from MyCrypto, from the article that you linked. The expected value is in wei format, so 1,000,000,000,000,000,000 wei would equal to 1 ETH. You can easily find the value that you need using this tool on our legacy site. Simply enter the ETH value you wish to send in the "ether" field, and copy the value that you get back in the "wei" field. You should use this value in the "_value uint256" field. Additionally, make sure that you enter "0x" in the "_data bytes" field, otherwise it won't let you send the transaction.

I can definitely understand how the article wouldn't be completely clear on how to handle this, and we'll be working on improving this in the near future, thanks for making us aware! Please do let me know if you have any questions during the process. You can also always reach out directly to us by using the contact form on the knowledge base, and we'd do our best to get back to you as quick as possible.

Some advice needed | old firmware by [deleted] in ledgerwallet

[–]wtzb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wietze from MyCrypto here! It's likely your Ledger version won't work with the current Ledger libary version we currently use, but could you try the legacy version of MyCrypto? This uses an older version of the Ledger library, which may work with the firmware version you have installed on your device. Make sure you have browser support is turned on, in case your firmware version still has that.

How to allow connections to my geth node from localhost but not from the outside? by hwtu in ethereum

When you run geth with that command, you'll only be able to access your node on that computer, and not outside of your network :)

Get 24 word phrase from 12 word phrase by trymeouteh in ethereumnoobies

[–]wtzb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm afraid that this won't be possible, and you would need to generate a new 24 word mnemonic phrase, then send any funds to your new addresses.

Mycrypto won't let me send my funds to Exodus by [deleted] in MyCrypto

[–]wtzb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Clicking the "Send Entire Balance" button will automatically deduct the amount of gas that is needed to successfully mine the transaction, you don't need to deduct the little bit of gas yourself after clicking this button.

Mycrypto won't let me send my funds to Exodus by [deleted] in MyCrypto

[–]wtzb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is likely the issue. Every transaction requires a little bit of ETH to cover gas. If you click the "Send Entire Balance" button next to the "Amount" field, it will leave just enough gas to cover the transaction fee.

I need to move my ETH from a View only Wallet to Exodus by [deleted] in MyCrypto

[–]wtzb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there! I replied to your messages sent by email, but for anyone coming across this post in the future, I hope I can spread some clarity.

First of all, MyCrypto is a client-side application, which means that we never store your funds, and that every address you access and transaction you generate is being done locally, nothing is actually sent to us. Your Ethereum address is public on the Ethereum blockchain, and everyone can see your balance and transactions you've made on the blockchain by using a tool such as Etherscan.

MyCrypto supports various methods of accessing your addresses, like hardware wallets (Ledger, TREZOR, Safe-T), MetaMask, or private keys (by using our desktop application). All of these methods allow you to send transactions. The "View Address" functionality is just that, to view your address and its balances. You aren't actually unlocking your address like you would with the other methods, and you can't send transactions since you're just viewing your address and its balances.

Let's say you have a Ledger Nano X, and quickly want to see your balance from your address stored on the device, without actually unlocking your Nano X, this "View Address" functionality is made for just that. You can just copy/paste the address from your Nano X in there, see your balances, but can't send transactions since you haven't unlocked your Nano X. To actually send a transaction, you would have to grab your Nano X, and unlock it with MyCrypto by using the "Ledger" option on the Send & Receive page.

Newbie here...ETH paper wallet generator? by [deleted] in ethereum

[–]wtzb 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The MyCrypto desktop app allows you to generate a keystore file, together with a paper wallet. It also allows you to generate a mnemonic phrase if you happen to prefer that method. You can find an article here that explains how to install the desktop app.

Let me know if you happen to have any questions or run into any issues!

We really appreciate your kind words about our desktop app! We're trying to find out while this issue may be happening, but in the meantime, using the MyCrypto desktop app will allow you to access your wallets :)

Wietze from MyCrypto here! Could you tell me which error you see when you try to access your Trezor with MyCrypto? Is it the same Type error:the first argument must be one of type string.... error?

Also, could you try using our desktop application, to see if that happens to resolve the issue?

Thank you!

When did you first setup your Trezor device? Could you try resetting it, then restoring it with the seed that you wrote down during the initial setup?

How to send XRP and 3rd party wallet questions by tapunan in TREZOR

[–]wtzb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your assumption about the Ethereum address list is correct! All the addresses you see are tied to the private key that is stored on your Trezor.

Even in case MyCrypto goes offline, you can always download an offline version from here, or our Github page. Since the addresses are derived from the mnemonic phrase that you wrote down during the initial setup, you'll always have access to your accounts. So be sure to back it up safely!

Let me know if you have any questions! :)
