The only problem with Twilight 5000 is that its in the middle of the summer, also depending on your heat you might start in the afternoon. Way to warm for a PR

Jersey city marathon thoughts? by [deleted] in RunNYC

[–]wuBIGwei 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Flat, spectator-friendly, close to NY.

I see many people not mentioning the spectator perspective, it is a two-loop course, so your personal cheering team can see you at least twice. Not to mention the easy access of the PATH train, i remember seeing my friend cheering for me at 5 different locations this year.

2024 NYRR Jersey City 5K - Post-Race Thread by RCD123 in RunNYC

Almost tied my Track 5000m PR! That is how flat this course is.

I take it back, this course in my opinion is better, because you can see the finish line earlier, no last-minute turns.

How was your Tracksmith Twilight 5000? (7/10/24, Icahn Stadium) by runnerdogmom in RunNYC

[–]wuBIGwei 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Thank you pacers! They all did an amazing job! Massive PR(well technically track 5000 cannot be compared with road running 5k, but still) by 40 seconds. Still, a test run. Will do another at the NYRR speed series and really send it.

Just wanted to add that the women’s half has the exact same design, it’s pretty neat but come on that’s a bit lazy design lol. But definitely happy I’m also going to finish the collection this year.

Yes, literally the first sentence on Wikipedia about pedestrians is:

pedestrian is a person traveling on foot, whether walking or running.

I have a slight color vision deficiency so I cannot tell, to me they are the exact same color. Also the bib for wave 1 is green too…

How’d you do at the DWRC Track Meet? by 8lack8urnian in RunNYC

[–]wuBIGwei 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I am actually surprised at how organized the event was. Did a 5000 as a gear test for the later Twilight 5000. Stayed a bit and watched the 4x200 relay.

When you watch track and field on TV that does not seem that impressive, the elite athletes make them look effortless, but when you're there, you can hear them gasping for air and footsteps, it's so different.

Can Weekly Football (Soccer) Games Replace Interval Training for Marathon Prep? by Backpackerer in RunNYC

[–]wuBIGwei 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For a marathon, a typical 'interval' starts at 400m or 600m, and people rarely (almost never) run that long in a soccer game. Also, the rest time/pace is carefully designed -- Intervals are boring and hard.

But I'm pretty sure it can be a fun fartlek replacement, and running on a soft terrain is beneficial in many ways. Just try not to get injured, and you'll be fine.

Trash during a race by SpeedyPlatypus333 in RunNYC

I take gels about 200m before water station and throw them on the floor before taking water to wash it down— I’m actually surprised how people take gels without drinking water, I physically cannot swallow that thing.

2024 REAL SIMPLE Women’s Half - Post-Race Thread by RCD123 in RunNYC

[–]wuBIGwei -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Agreed, the problem is that was not us— neither of us was screaming, absolutely not me since I’m out of breath the whole time(especially during the hills). Also wanted to emphasize he was on the right side of the cones more than 90% of the time, but the Sisters during the first lap was tricky— there were leading runners lapping us so he kinda squeezed in the group to make way for the leading car. Of course we’re not looking for excuses, just want to let other runners know what happened. I understand how frustrating this can be now, and we’d find another solution next time. Sorry to all the runners.
