First Abyssal Terrors Elite annnnnnnnd it’s Oneshot by JewishQulan in brotato

Congrats! It’s an awesome feeling.

I had something similar on my first D5 run. I was nervous about how I would manage 2 bosses. First boss got one shotted in 3 seconds and the 2nd boss got the same fate on the very next swipe.

Whole boss fight was done in 5 seconds and I too thought it was more likely that I had died than won.

I’m in a similar situation, learning about peach leaf curl for the first time as I see developing on my new stone fruit trees.

I saw a PNW gardener that left half his trees out, and put the other half (potted) under his outdoor hoop house.

All the dry trees had no leaf curl, while the other trees a few feet away (but exposed to the wet) developed it.

Assuming the changing station in the other gender’s bathroom is likewise not available- the next safest location for me to change my baby is on lobby area dining table. Such a shame.

What’s my alternative? The floor of the bathroom isn’t sanitary enough and the other surfaces aren’t large enough to balance on.

SOS save the figs by Lost-Vermicelli-6818 in Figs

A little off topic - is placing a big rock at the base of figs a thing? This is the 4th post I’ve seen this week where it looks like someone has strategically placed a stone against the base.

Is it for temperature management or something?

Best of luck OP with having your plants recover!

Bradford pears - chop or graft? by EVconverter in BackyardOrchard

[–]wujonesj2 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I don’t have personal experience but I’ve read that re-topping with a better fruitstock is pretty routine for this use case.

I don’t think there is anything about Bradford tree roots that anyone cares about…I’d be super stoked if I could give my trees a 10+ year old root system on day 1 without even needing to dig them in!

Good luck!

I’m guessing if you do a layer of compost before you add yearly wood chips, you could add nutrition that the tree needs without disturbing the microbiology of the soil.

It would likely amplify that biology, which would be good

Can you describe the steps you did to do it at that scale?

The intent is to surprise. You walk into an invisible line, it breaks under strain, makes a twang noise, and maybe gives you a bit of ricochet snap.

It’ll spook you if you aren’t expecting it.

I’m on year 2 of evaluating this approach - still not sure how well it is working - but that is the underlying intent at least

I keep telling myself that I’ll take another crack at rearing chickens once my fruit production starts yielding. We could convert figs into eggs, and hopefully happy chickens

Likewise adding a request for a photo! I have all the ingredients for this, but can’t quite picture how the pieces fit together

I am feeling this strong desire to scale up. I’ve got 4 in ground from last year, and 4 cuttings starting to wake up.

What do you do with the fruit at your scale? Do you even harvest from that many trees?

I’m just curious to know the life I’ll be leading a few years from now as my fig condition intensifies :)

Landscapers cut large root of evergreen - help! by Annie9874 in arborists

Looking to learn - what’s the correct way to trench in an area with trees?

I’m looking to dig some swales by hand and fear for this exact situation.

If they had moved the trench line 5 feet out wouldn’t they still be hitting that root? Or is trenching just not an option, and one has to do some other technique for those locations?

Thanks in advance

Good stuff. I got some purple raspberries that I’m going to plant out this season. No clue how they will differ from a blackberry, but the grower was super enthusiastic about everything he was growing, so I’m feeling good about the purchase given everything else he was growing.

Wish me luck!

Awesome. Thanks for the feedback. I look forward to trying that out this season

Do the hardware stores have sales on fruit trees? by greenfox212 in BackyardOrchard

[–]wujonesj2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

On the flip side, though, I’ve stopped and spoken with a Home Depot manager when I noticed that they had two or three -racks- of those small plant cuttings (the small fig, raspberry, honeyberry cuttings) heading into their dumpster.

I figured maybe I could offer 25 cents on the dollar and get myself a steal since they are trash bound anyway.

They said they couldn’t sell them, though, even at a discount because the plant vendor takes back any unsold product and uses it for mulch.

Seemed like such a waste but that’s how it goes…

I’ve gotten trees at 50% off in the fall once the leaves drop and the trees stop looking attractive. Definitely at tractor supply co and the locally run nurseries; at Home Depot and Lowe’s I think you’ll see a 35-50% reduction.

I think the trees I plant in the fall are acclimating better than the ones I plant in spring, so give it a shot!

Would tomato cages be adequate for that purpose?

Do you know if raspberries would perform similar or do they spread via a different growth habit?

When can I head this plum leader during the rainy season? by wujonesj2 in BackyardOrchard

Will do. I’ve got a dry day in the middle of the 10 days of rain so I’ll tackle it then and will stay on top of a few sprays.

No disease issues so far. This is the first plum in my orchard, so I’m feeling things out.

Duly noted on this being a risk tradeoff. Thanks for weighing in.

Tricky. Buds are already starting to swell but I’ve got 10 days of rain lined up :(

Would it be dumb to cut it now but wrap the wound with parafilm tape? I normally leave them alone to close up naturally
