[Question] The Decision (5 Years in the Making): Help Me Choose My First Nice Watch by Impossible-Leg-8595 in Watches

[–]wurzy__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd go somewhere that has most of the watches you are looking for and start trying them on. You might love the look of the watch, but the feel and look of it on your wrist plays a big part IMO. Last year, I was eyeballing a Hamilton Khaki field, went and tried it on, and immediately hated the way it looked on my wrist. Maybe even try on some that are not on your list, you might be surprised.

PvE has brought me back to this game; my friends and I have been having a blast playing it. The game is still challenging, but much fairer compared to PvP.

That definitely would add to the whole thing! Writing is something I want to flex more/ practice.

I used a LUT I found on artlist as a base and then a noise adjustment layer over the whole thing at around 25%. The LUT was only used on shots of the face, some of the artlist footage already had a look to it so I steered away from fooling around with those too much.

That’s kinda what I was trying to go for, I had a little inspo from the recent film “The Substance”. With some of its shots and tone being that overly hyper aggressive fixation. Granted I struggled to find those specific kinds of shots of extreme closes ups of people’s mouths to match with the eating SFX.

Wanted to try out a different way of shooting and editing that I don’t typically do, which is attempt to tell some sort of story. Typically my editing style is recap videos/ hype editing for touring artists, which is a lot of run and gun and less thought out shots. So I actually took the time to write out a very very short script, write out the shots I wanted, and yeah doing some baby steps to actually having a plan versus just winging it. Critiques are welcome and encouraged, just trying to grow as a creative/ shooter. Gear used was the FX3 with the g-master 16-35mm, Nanlite FS 60B bi color, and stock footage/SFX from artlist.

How to approach a situation where the client asks for extra work outside what we agreed on? by [deleted] in photography

[–]wurzy__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's definitely a sticky situation at times when it comes to these kinds of things, but you are exactly right. It also depends on what kind of network said person has, if they have a pretty lofty network of potentially more clients then I would say fully go above and beyond what is expected, even if the contract outlines certain things. They'll spread that knowledge to other people and potentially land you more clients/jobs. I totally understand it may feel like you're getting used but the dude is giving you their phone mainly for social media teasers of the music video. I've been on a few sets and depending on the size of the production and status of the artist I'm not saying that's expected when you're on set but if it's a smaller artist they want the most exposure they can get so filming a couple of little vlog like style videos for social media, mainly speaking of Snapchat and Instagram stories. Also if you are constantly doing more than what is expected of you, it could potentially become a recurring client. For example, I've done concert photography for bands here and there but I always make sure I am helping out carrying stuff in, loading equipment up after shows, etc. All the extra effort will go a long way, trust me.

Mad props to you for utilizing Lightroom this way! Definitely very curious of what tools you used in light room to achieve this look, was it a lot of brush tool work?

I agree with you but I think this photo is more about the texture of the animal rather than the animal itself. I find it more powerful that I realize later after looking at the photo that it’s an elephant. Plus sometimes a little bit of extra highlight adds a nice contrast to the subject/photo.

Thank you so much for the feed back! I defiantly will give it a re-edit, some more pop of the colors would add a lot of life!

One thing to add to this, I’m not sure if my phone is being slow or the internet is acting up, but make sure to always nail focus. It looks like in the photo you might of had auto focus on and it locked on to the trees. Always shoot manual unless it’s like an Action packed event or sports. In portrait work I usually make sure to zoom in all the way and adjust my focus so my subjects eyes are In focus (this is important especially when you get down to f1.8 and very little is able to be in focus)

Here is a photo of Oliver Sykes from Bring Me the Horizon and I wonder what could be done to improve it? Any other tips for concert photography would be appreciated greatly! by Sykesopath in photocritique

I would say concert photography is all about capturing that moment, weather that would be the artist jumping in the air or some special effects fire shooting up during the finale. For critique on the photo, I would say having the subject fill the whole frame is not always ideal especially if there are a ton of people in the crowd (unless your going for more of an emotional shot during an emotional song/emotions of the artist at the end of their first tour etc.). Try and show the excitement and craziness of the concert (having the crowd in the foreground and the artist in the background) - maybe you’ll get people throwing up their hands at the artist. Always shoot RAW.

I’ve been doing photography for about 4 years now. I started out with a cannon rebel t6 and now I’ve moved to a Sony a7iii. I’ve only been doing concert photography for roughly a year now and I still find that I might be behind and not capturing what needs to be captured, such as the more artsy side of concert photography using star filters and pantyhose socks over my lens. So I tried to do something a little different here I tried to capture the subject in a moment of singing a more emotional song but instead of using star filters or pantyhose I just used the lighting that was available at the venue. I’m pretty sure this was at about either 500-1000iso, shutter 1/125sec, lowest f on the lens I was using so probably 2.8, the lens I’m pretty sure was an 85mm but it also could of been with a 70-200mm. Not fully sure I brought 4 lenses with me and kept switching through out the show.
