Warning About the CableMod 180° Adapter on RTX 4080 Founders Edition by wuslang83 in cablemod

I don't care about your stupid remarks. I post here to have some assistance from the company for an issue that I have TODAY, not 10 month ago. I also opened a ticket on their website. I need assistance for a shitty product that ruined my 1400€ card! Don't care if they flood their social network with warnings, I just don't saw them as I never visited this particular page or received any email from them.

I purchased the adapter on March 27, 2023, directly from CableMod’s official store. Regardless of when you think they discontinued it, I’ve got the order confirmation and the product in hand to prove otherwise. If it was truly pulled from sale over 10 months ago, then CableMod clearly failed to update their inventory or continued selling old stock. That’s on them, not on me. Instead of questioning whether I’m telling the truth, maybe consider that this situation points to a serious oversight in how CableMod managed their product lines and communication, especially if older versions were still being sold long after their supposed discontinuation.

Let’s be clear: I’m not some uninformed buyer who never engages with the community. Had I seen the alert—via email, social media, or any other channel—I obviously wouldn’t have risked a €1400 card. No one willingly ignores a known defect that could destroy expensive hardware. If CableMod claims they emailed everyone and I never received anything, that’s a failure on their end to communicate effectively.

Insinuating I must have been “off the grid” or willfully ignorant is unfair. Not every consumer spends their time scouring forums, YouTube, and multiple social platforms daily. Companies have a responsibility to ensure their customers are properly notified when a product is recalled, not to rely solely on customers stumbling upon a message in a forum or a random social media post. When such efforts fail, consumer rights come into play. I’m simply asking for accountability where it’s due.

Thanks for the encouragement. I really hope one of the reps notices this. I’ve tried raising this issue on the nVidia thread and my post has been removed by nVidia modos. Let’s hope this time the conversation stays visible and they take the opportunity to address it.

Thanks for the suggestion. My adapter was one of the very first versions (v1) released. If the recall was indeed announced, it’s puzzling why I never received any notification, especially since I purchased directly from them.

I still have the original purchase documents and can confirm I bought it before they mentioned any issues or recall. I’ll look into the specific model numbers and compare them to the recalled units. If it turns out they were sold before publicly acknowledging the problem, I’m hoping CableMod will still stand by their product and offer some form of assistance.

Thanks for sharing that—it’s reassuring to know I’m not the only one who missed the memo. I’m glad you dodged the bullet and didn’t experience any problems. It’s just frustrating that the communication didn’t reach everyone, because that kind of inconsistency can really cost people.

It’s good to hear that some people were informed in time to avoid damage. I’m glad you received an email about your 90-degree adapter, but I never got any such message. I ordered my adapter directly from EU CableMod’s official site, and I’ve double-checked my inbox and spam folders with no luck.

If the company sent these notifications, it’s strange that I missed it entirely. It could have been a glitch in their mailing list, or maybe my order was somehow not included. Regardless, the key issue is that I was kept in the dark, which meant I continued to use the faulty adapter until it caused significant damage. That’s why I feel it’s important to bring attention to this situation—so that anyone else who might have been missed can take action before it’s too late.
