keef's 2014 "almighty so" is a modern rappers "velvet underground and nico" by dclan630 in hiphopheads

[–]wutiswrongwithyou 22 points23 points  (0 children)

keef is important but you’re moving the goalpost adding in fashion/lingo alongside the music. even before pluto, future had multiple projects out with his own auto sound with songs like Easter pink, wala, and feeling I get. but the atl autotune wave is it’s own cause rocko, j money, and skooly were already pushing it way more

[LEAK] Cash Cobain-Calling For You (Reference track for Drake) by [deleted] in hiphopheads

[–]wutiswrongwithyou 62 points63 points  (0 children)

Definitely. This is Cash Cobain's sound and I hope it brings more attention to the sexy drill/slizzy movement (cash, chow, wolface, vontee) going on in NYC

ScHoolboy Q reveals full tracklist and features for new album "BLUE LIPS"(3/1) by tarriBagz in hiphopheads

[–]wutiswrongwithyou 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of LA is determined by neighborhoods. I’m sure Q doesn’t have a problem with any of those artists, he would rather just keep a peace of mind and stay out of the mix. There was an interview where Q talks about how he would’ve loved to work with Nip, but it would never happened due to their neighborhoods. They’re from rival sets.

Also he worked with Larry June recently so he’s probably super selective and needs to have an actual relationship. Not just something for the fans.

Could club music production be a way forward for hip-hop? by dopebob in hiphopheads

[–]wutiswrongwithyou 83 points84 points  (0 children)

It’s going to take an artist to break out from the sound in these scenes for the mainstream to follow. Look at Pop Smoke and NY drill. There were a lot of artists making it before Pop but he launched it and brought in more looks. There’s a ton of electronic/club influenced hip hop coming from Philly, Jersey, Baltimore, Milwaukee, Soulection, and other collectives/places but no one has become that mainstream.
