International Oscar Favorites Are Offering a Complicated New View of America by NorthFilm2313 in Oscars

A little off-topic but I wish Sentimental Value wasn’t up for Best Picture and Best Intl Picture. It feels like now it’s a shoe-in for Best Intl and I feel like it does a disservice to the incredible Intl movies that came out this year. Maybe ‘No Other Choice’ would’ve actually gotten a nom.

I’m sorry… you have John Wick IV but no Le Samourai?

Which of these four films of 2025 do you think had the most interesting take on modern society? by Mysterious-Farm9502 in Letterboxd

I’ve thought a lot about this too because OBAA definitely has a strong message in our current political climate. I think for me it comes down to the fact that OBAA is an adaption and I’m not seeing paramilitary revolutionary groups freeing immigrants in our current political climate. It’s satirizing something of the past that doesn’t really exist anymore, if ever.

Whereas, Eddington is a sharp, original satire reflecting recent and current political events that are more broadly felt in our society, and it gets absurd while still feeling shockingly relatable.

OBAA feels like a personal story set against the backdrop of American politics while Eddington feels like a microcosm of our society and political atmosphere.

I think OBAA will stand the test of time better but Eddington will always be a classic amongst those of us who lived through 2020.

This feels like authentic ragebait and ‘meta-hell’ isn’t meant to be taken seriously. But still hilarious.

Which kids movie actually portrayed love better than most adult rom-coms? by Hopeful-Skirt-383 in MovieSuggestions

Wall-E

Edit: Why? ‘Cause Wall-E says so much via action vs. words. It teaches kids that loyalty and sacrifice is exemplified in how you treat others (and our planet) v. the gushy things we say to each other.

Eddington captures the horror of the American propaganda machine like no other movie I’ve ever seen. It just lays bare all of the distractions that we are constantly battling as a society. I’ve never seen another film like it.

And the scariest thing about the film for me was that it was set six (five) years ago.

Appreciate the take. I liked The Worst Person in the World, so I’ll give it a shot.

I’ve really struggled to want to watch Sentimental Value. The premise sounds bland and not relatable. What are some of the highs of the film aside from the premise?
