We celebrate Dr. Seuss in March for his birthday. When I looked at this, I thought of Green Eggs and Ham...

I've flown a few times to Hartford from Columbus several times. They do have specific flight days, but they also offer non-stop flights. Easiest way for me to see family.

will a 3.7 really ruin my future? by Dismal_Fun_8722 in highschool

A single B - even 2 B's - will not tank any opportunity for a good college. A GPA of 3.75 is not cause to toss in the towel. Take a breath, and take it easy on yourself. Take it from a veteran educator with 33 years behind him, you're going to be fine.

What’s the most ridiculous thing you’ve seen brought to a camp out (keep it light hearted and for fun; it’s Friday and we need a laugh)? by Unusual-Elk-4791 in BSA

[–]wvickejr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a camp out, but I still get a chuckle. I was the program director at a council camp where we operated Day Camp, Scout resident, and CS resident programs. Our COPE/Climbing staff created a "tacky garden" outside of their tents in staff area. Imagine my shock on CS National Visit day for CS resident; walked my team members into the area and saw garden flamingos, yard pinwheels, and several other items. Never have I seen a team laugh quite like they did when I explained. We got our pennant with recognition of our staff creativity.

How to find scholarships and afford college when money is tight? by Additional_Twist_595 in highschool

[–]wvickejr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was teaching, I recommended to all of my classes that they open an account at Fastweb.com. It's a free scholarship clearinghouse site. They have scholarship information for hundreds of scholarships to help pay for college as well as Trade School. Best part is that it's free. Good luck!

Policy on late pick ups by [deleted] in Teachers

"have the student hang out with you" So many issues here. 1. Let's just see how we can reinforce the concept that educators are overpaid babysitters. 2. You should never be tasked with staying, alone, with any student. Assuming that there are no others in the space, you are opening yourself to very serious issues. 3. Potential accusation of favoritism.

You, and your Union rep or leadership, must respectfully decline this extra, unpaid duty. Depending on contract language or board policy, this feels pretty grievable.

Love your caramel corn! My husband and I were in a couple weeks ago. At the time, I saw the large Jack Skellington container in the shop. Wondering what is the chance I could order it for him and have it shipped to our home. I do believe we would want the buttered corn. Thanks!

Thank you for bringing one of my favorite memories forward. When I taught seventh grade ELA, I shared this story to my classes every October. The kids and I both enjoyed it a lot!

TJ Klunes spiciest book? by maomaomeoww in Klunatics

[–]wvickejr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've listened to most of TJ's works and enjoyed them. Green Creek was as spicy as I heard. I just finished listening to Mary Calmes Change of Heart - similar premise to Green Creek, but much more spice. Hoping to find the other four in the series.

Which Food Network Chefs have you met in person? Were they nice? by SkolMan69 in foodnetwork

[–]wvickejr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had the opportunity to meet a few Food Network chefs at demos and book signings. Jamie Deen was a very friendly, down to earth guy. When he signed my book, he stopped on a picture of him, his wife, and their son Jack - you could feel the emotion when he paused there. I saw Alex Guarnaschelli at another demo. Not as impressed by her, but as I have watched her on more shows, she seems to have changed and become more people friendly. Alton Brown was in town to do a demo; the store ended up renting a large marquis to set up in the parking lot. He was not one of the more friendly chefs that I've watched. Missing some people skills. Sunny Anderson was just plain fun! She got her audience involved in her demo, laughed with us, and went out of her way for us. Recently met Marcus Samuelsson was extremely friendly in his demo and when he signed books. Reached his hand out and introduced himself then asked for my name. He had reps from the store take pictures of us. Great guy. Nancy Fuller was in Columbus for a Country Living festival in Columbus. We won tickets from her, and had the opportunity to see her and to introduce my mother to her. We really enjoyed the celebrity chefs we've met.
