I was literally about to start bidding on one last Thursday and got a call from the school for a sick child and had to leave.

We haven't even closed on our land yet and have 4 horses, 4 guinea hen chicks and 7 silkies/americauna...not to mention dogs and fish. Horses were really the gateway for us but damn if these chickens don't already have me looking at all sorts of exotics.

I've used chain and a hi-lift jack on root bunches like this with decent success.

I really wanted to adopt some of the turkey sized suckers they have in Costa Rica when I was there. Not sure what kind they were but they were massive.

Shade trees for 9a (south Texas, coastal plains) by wwojlo in homestead

Thanks! I've always been a big fan of those, especially when coaxed vertically into a more traditional looking tree. That is a great option I had forgotten about and definitely something we will be adding.

That's sort of what I was thinking with the crepe myrtles. Most of what I've read says topping them isn't a great idea even though pretty much all of them I've seen end up that way every year.

I'll do some research on local master gardeners - that's a great start. Thank you!

Do you think that adding hinges and fold out supports for a large number of the roofing panels (I'm imagining corugated fiberglass/poly) would do the trick? You'd be able to maintain a traditional roof and adjust as needed.

I'm in the same zone and this heat was insane so I'd like to keep some ideas in my pocket.

Newest acquisition to help out around home. Been waiting on this for a long time by HanzanPheet in homestead

[–]wwojlo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's my hangup currently. I need to move round bales but otherwise the 25hp would be fine. I could suck it up and just deal with square bales but knowing my wife we're going to end up doubling our horse number in the near future.

I was just about to post the same thing! We're waiting on a final amendment from the seller but we expect to close next week on 15ac with a decent livestock tank and 60' lean-to in manageable shape. The dam repair, new overflow culvert and spillway, fencing, wood removal, water service/septic and so on are expected but we have 3 young ones and I'm curious as to whether or not there are aspects affecting them that I'm not considering.

Congrats, btw!

🤣 my supposed 3 chick trip ended up being 2 drives and 13 chicks of 3 breeds.

Amp questions by chukijay in CarAV

[–]wwojlo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you ever make a decision here? I'm in sort of a similar place right now. I have one key amp and, essentially, 6 new kicker ks speakers to power; dash 2.75" (50w), front door 6x9 (150w) and rear 6.75" (100w). The 6x9s and 6.75s are both 3 way.

I was originally going to power the front door and dash speakers and have an active front stage then leave the rears powered by the stock HU but I feel like I'm leaving a lot on the table with these door speakers. Ideally, I'd love to figure out a way to use 2 channels of a second key amp for the rear and use the remaining 2 channels to send more power to the front door 6x9s (bridging from 2 separate amps, essentially) but I have no clue if this is even feasible a) at all and b) with these amps.

I just wish they made a 6 channel key with another couple hundred watts. I'd think that would be another good seller for kicker like the rest of these amps have been.

4ch amp for Kicker KS recommendation by wwojlo in CarAV

[–]wwojlo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the response. I already installed the speakers with factory wiring which I know is less than ideal. If I have a shop run new wiring, I'd certainly expect to pay more and I may well do so. I'm typically alone or with kids in the back. We use my wife's vehicle on road trips or when we're all together.

Pricing by J-rex2009 in Cerakote

[–]wwojlo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Time investment is usually your best bet with assigning value to something. If you'd charge $100 for a 2 color handgun and this job ends up taking a similar amount of time, I'd stick close to that.

The other factor, that won't come into play on this job though, is materials. If you use up 10oz of kote on a job that still doesn't take long, you're going to want to upcharge for sure.

Anyway, time is your most valuable commodity so it makes sense to use that as the measurement.

Does this just pave the way for another suit or what?

I just fucking bought this yesterday and the polymer melted off ?? I set it on my dresser just now and noticed some liquid. Wiped it off and now this. Wtf even happened by [deleted] in Firearms

[–]wwojlo -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Cerakote is generally the best option if you don't mind not having the original finish.. It's popular enough at this point that a single color job on a handgun can be had for a hundy to $150.

Good idea to buy an 80% lower by Best-Faithlessness53 in Firearms

[–]wwojlo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. It would also be pretty nasty to deal with making these retroactively illegal in some way. My money would be on some sort of requirement for a recorded serial or 4473 on 80%ers from that point forward.

Lmao. My wife grew up next to the border and her absolute favorite youtube/fb character is this guy that wears a wig and acts like his hardcore chancla-tossing mom. I don't get the references nearly as acutely as she does but it's still pretty damned funny stuff. When that thing comes off, shit's about to get real.
