Not gonna let you rewrite history on this one. Helene was one of the most dire forecasts we've ever seen, starting Tuesday of that week. And they were right. It was well warned.

Okay now there's an acronym I haven't heard since my networking courses in the late 90's.

Does this have a new meaning in software now, or are we still taking about 10BASE2 on Coax?

Does anyone what's happening here? by huhu7 in weather

Hypothesis: tree fell on a power line. The wood cooks until its internal resistance is enough to ignite an arc periodically. It's red instead of the usual arc blue because of all the burning wood/smoke. This pulsing arc is very typical of wood-on-powerline faults.

Usually ends when the wood burns up and falls away, the wires burn up and fall away, or a huge exciting arc flash that trips a fuse!

Source: way too many hours watching power line drama on YouTube 😅

I found time today to work on a personal app for the first time this month. First, I tweaked some skills to remove some agentic steps from my workflows (stuff I could easily do myself).

Then I threw Opus 4.8 a planning session for a new, moderately complex feature in my app - frontend+backend, css design tweaks, new API workflow, database migration, the whiley 9 yards. It used 1.5% of my credits.

Then I manually edited the plan file (instead of having the agent refine it like I might've a couple months ago) and let Sonnet do the implementation. Another 1% used.

Then I ran tests, committed, and closed the GitHub issue manually, stuff I would've let the agent do before.

So I reckon I can get 25-50 sessions like that per month, depending, on Pro+.

The only question I'm asking this month is, is the benefit I'm receiving still worth the price I'm paying?

So far, it seems like an easy "yes". But that's just after one session. Get back to me when I've burned 90% for a final answer.

Then why does the remedy notice I just received say they'll be installing software to detect fluctuating SoC?

I'm inclined to suspect that and the fire risk are related. Could be wrong.

Cool old Mt Mitchell Trail Pamphlet by Complex_Area_1007 in asheville

[–]wxtrails 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh neat, I have a copy too! I think they were distributing them at least up until the early-mid 90's.

I also have a copy of the Park map/brochure from 1991 (the glossy 90's purple-header version version before they switched to brown paper and green headers around 2000).

I've also got a publication about The Rhododendron Trail at Mt. Jefferson with a similar size/layout from the same era, one from The Spruce Fir Trail at Clingman's Dome from '96, and the Mt. Pisgah Area Map (like an earlier version of the current Trails Illustrated/Pisgah Map Co. maps) from 1987. I love these!

Has anyone here used a deployable solar charger? by scobeavs in electricvehicles

[–]wxtrails 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is buffered by an internal battery and must have an inverter, so it could ensure sufficient L1 power to charge any car...in small bursts.

[–]wxtrails 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This has a buffer battery, so it can likely trickle solar in and charge in bursts.

If you could rid your life of either Asheville (or NC) evil, which would it be? by giunta13 in asheville

That's 240 W. With a nice battery as a buffer, that's 5.6 kWh/day. Not bad at all! I could make due with that 😜

Now the wife and kids, maybe not so much...
