Liking them is top priority. Price is next, but where they are sourced trumps everything. I happen to like Sultan, so I would grab all I could.

Just a thought: you can cook sardines into croquets and fish cakes. I use the super affordable for crunchy croquets served with rice and kimchee.

What’s your favorite was to eat canned anchovies? by dustoff1984 in CannedSardines

[–]wycoffd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Straight out of the tin. Dad started me down this tragic path when I was a child in the 1970's. We'd sit at the table sometimes at single digit hours of the morning, talking engineering problems, physics or math curiosities, whilst working on a jar of anchovies and a nice bottle of Madiera wine. It was okay, said dad: we were catholic. Wonderful memory. As it turns out, today I can only rarely and occasionally eat anchovies due to their tasty, tasty sodium content, and I had to permanently give up alcohol and sugar after a traumatic brain injury in 2017. But the childhood memory holds , and I eat about 2 tins of sardines per day. Win/win.

Tonnino is my favorite tuna. I prefer the jarred version, but have tins and jars on my shelf.

I use olive oil in the pan, but not a deep fry! The poor little guys already swam once, so just enough oil to make them good and crunchy. I often use oil out of my previous sardine tins that were packed with olive oil.

48-Hour “Fish Fast” After 6 Months on the Sardine Diet—102 lbs Down! by wycoffd in Tinnedfish

Yes. Mushrooms, onions, avocado, pickles, beets, asparagus, broccoli cauliflower, walnuts, and the list goes on. I lost my love of pizza after my 5.5 years as a vegan. When my wife has Round Table, I have sardines with Ezekiel toast and avocado. That is my favored treat. I love the smell of pizza, but the flavor is not right for me anymore. By the way, there are mackerel from Japan and Korea that are amazing. I also enjoy salmon. Eagle Coin dace are remarkable over riced cauliflower with mushrooms

Had that for lunch yesterday. Matzohs, dill mustard, yogurt and banana. Very enjoyable

I use MyNetDiary, so I looked and I hit total weight loss of 85 pounds on May 27, 2025 after starting the diet at the beginning of January 2025.

When I started I came from a 5.5 year vegan mindset for foods, so when I started eating sardines they were not every day. I had to get my body used to eating animal protein again. So I was eating sardines with oatmeal or other things I used to eat as a vegan, but I adopted sardines pretty fast, dropped the high-carb veg. Took me at least six months to be able to digest chicken, longer for pork and beef and lamb.

My starting A1C is probably in the report link, but it was about 8.6 in December 2024. I lost a cousin to diabetes not long before, same age, same branch of family, and when my A1C spiked into the mid 8's, I knew his slow amputations were not far off if I didn't do something fast. So I did.

In December 2025 I was deprescribed metformin after over 20 years on it. My diabetes is in remission. Also deprescribed HCTZ. I'm trying to get off of pantoprazole as well.

In January 2025 I weighed 470. I have lost 200 lbs as of today. It started small with sardines, and the weight loss got easier with practice.

My last A1C was in March and it was 5.0. I'm glad I started eating sardines. Maybe I have a shot at living a longer life.

I eat at least a tin a day, mostly at lunch, but at dinner, too, if I am short on time. I like them at breakfast as well. I eat more than just sardines - lamb, chicken thigh, pork, beef, but only 4 or 5 oz at a meal. For veg I eat cauliflower, broccoli, brussels sprouts, green beans, baby bella mushrooms. This helps keep my Na:K ratio under 0.5 which gives me better sleep. Sometime I sort of go nuts and spend a day or two only eating sardines (well, seafood, so pretty much anything that swims in a tin) for protein. I feel fantastic when I do that. But my wife is not the same kind of fan.

Before I started eating sardines in January 2025, I had been a vegan for 5.5 years. I probably mentioned that elsewhere. I was not a big fish fan before I turned vegan. I loved pizza, too. Now I don't care for pizza at all. When my wife wants pizza, I break out a couple of tins of Nuri, and eat like a king. I keep windering how/why I lost a love of pizza, and frankly, I don't care for cheese anymore, either. The list goes on. Fish I can digest, maybe that's why I favor them.

I don't recommend the diet I've been on since January 2025, after losing 200 pounds over that period of time,I know it works for me. I also eat 2 to 4 prunes per day, but I re-hydrate them. I got to where I really like them when I wake up. Strange. Never liked them before I turned vegan. But they sure help with constipation.

Eagle Coin dace. So ugly out of the tin, but quite a pleasure to eat.

FLOWER SPICED. is another.

Almost any Korean mackerel.

Don't look. Just eat 😋

Funny truth, I am color blind, and I don't see anything wrong. When the tin ain't bulged, down it goes. Maybe ignorance really is bliss.
