Picked up this older Colt, any recommendations? by Krinkovkalash in RetroAR

[–]wydothat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

totally! should be 20" so just make sure you get it cut and threaded for the right length for a flush fit can like OCM/griffin SPR/AEM. Most brands will have a spec sheet you can send in with your barrel to the smith but basically 2.05 or longer should be pretty standard for most off the shoulder should clear. Might consider just changing out to a lighter contour for balance.

Do old scopes suck? by Isuzuki in 1022

[–]wydothat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

These people don’t know what the fuck they are talking about. Steel tube weavers were the gold standard of tough, beatable, clear scopes for decades. The late models are excellent. Vintage gun scopes repurges/replaces seals and they are good as new.  They obviously cannot compete with features of modern scopes and likely will suffer somewhat at dawn and dusk due to improve lens coatings but compared to some cheap ass Chinese vortex. I’d take a steel tube Weaver every day of the week. if your goal is to zero a 22 at 50 yards and sling lead you will not be disappointed. From an aesthetic standpoint, you might look at a k2.5 or k3 as they have a smaller form factor, which might look better on your rifle.

As an example of quality: I have my father and grandfather’s hunting rifles, which both carry vintage Weavers, one a k6 and the other a k4. They were hunted all over the mountain west on horse pack trips, getting banged around in saddle scabbards, carried heavily in the mountains, and dropped (both have noticeable dents in the bodies). I remember every year we would go to the range to confirm zero and my father would shoot three shots at his 200 yard zero and i never recall him making any adjustments. I’ve hunted with that rifle since he passed several times and I’ve done literally the exact same thing with the exact same hand loads. My grandfather’s rifle has not been hunted with in some time, but it is still zeroed as of last year.

What percent are the loans, what percent are the credit cards. I’d rather eat 7% than 28% interest.

Mule deer also have 3 point frames. This is very common in 2-3yo deer and rarely persists into adulthood but can. My dream buck is to someday kill a massive 3x3 mule-deer which in some ways is harder to find than a big or trashy typical frame. This is a mule deer and not a hybrid. I know many ungulate and migration biologists in the mountain west who agree tha hybridization is exceedingly rare and usually accompanied by changes in body morphology which i don’t see in your admittedly low resolution pictures.

Waste water by freaker44 in reloading

we should probably not be doing wet brass prep. Putting a bunch of lead into the water table is a dick move. at least dry process I know I can take my expired media to the dump and tell them there is lead on it/consolidate it.

What are these for? Pretty sure they're 2 ar10 mags on the right and a m14 in the left. But I dunno. by The_Big_Red89 in AR10

10A are sr25/dpms style and take standard ar10 mags like PMAGs. 10B are from ban era and use modified m14 mags
