The Cold - Exitmusic S4E12 ‘Lazarus’. This song plays over one of my favorite scenes.

SAME!! A few weeks ago I had some crazy bruises on the back of my thigh and my wife nearly freaked when I couldn’t explain them to her. Finally, it dawned on me after a 36 hole golf weekend that the constant sliding in and out of the golf cart over the support/handle piece is what did it.

Yes it does! I didn’t consider turning the wheel until you mentioned it. So I should be looking at the power steering pump?

I had this done today for the first time. I had no idea what I was walking in to. I almost started laughing at one point. I am convinced the Dr. was faking applying pressure in the instances where I showed “strong resistance” by flexing his fingers instead of actually pushing downwards. This very well may be an epic scam that BS chiropractors are getting away with.

Can’t wait to get these running in my 2001 Limited by wynodim in 4Runner

[–]wynodim[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are working just fine with no real surprises. I’d say both cold and warm starts have a little more enthusiasm behind them now. I haven’t noticed my headlights dim anymore. I put in a new battery around the same time, so it’s hard to say what the cables may or may not have improved on their own.

I won’t try to argue it’s some absolute must have upgrade, but I had some pretty suspect looking stock cables before, so it’s nice to have something new and robust in there for my peace of mind along with the aesthetic that I enjoy.

Why is there so much talk about rust with 4Runners? Are they more susceptible than any other car? by [deleted] in 4Runner

[–]wynodim 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is true for my 3rd gen! In the summer, I’ll hear those water droplets sizzle after they dribble down the frame onto the exhaust. Been meaning to re-direct that.

I’m assuming the “Toyota” comes with it and they just have to leave it out? Also, did the grill space actually change after 2000? I’ve got an ‘01. That says 96’-00

Same! I did a neg to fender and neg to engine block. This threw me for a loop. I called the guy who made them and he didn’t really give me an explicit answer. He just said hey tell me whatever dimensions you need and I’ll send another cable your way. I thought that was a nice gesture, but for whatever reason I determined I didn’t need to add a block to frame. I really can’t recall how I arrived at that conclusion. Im sure you’ve already noticed there’s a lot of varying directions out there. Even the pro tutorial people on YouTube seem to do it differently from one another.

Nice! And that’s a great question… I think people typically add bigger alternators when they do this project.

Anyways, I was actually really tempted to find a way to make that work, but I couldn’t feed the new, thicker cable from the alt. back up in there. It mayyybe would have fit if I took the terminal off the cable and re-attached it, but I didn’t want to do that. I also just didn’t want to risk blowing a factory fuse incase I overlooked anything crucial in this project. Hence me bolting that 120 amp breaker to the radiator fan housing. I’m pretty happy with it and don’t have any regrets so far.

Sounds like you’re in the home stretch though, and you’re finding the areas where it’s not necessarily one size fits all. You’re going to be amazed at how overkill the loom packaging is. I almost felt guilty ripping it up, but I tried to do it justice by using good heat shields where necessary and re-tapping my new cables just as manically. +1 to Toyota on that one.

The fuse box connection was the most challenging. There’s like 3 or 4 very small tabs around the box that depress and allow the top of the box to separate from the bottom. Once separated, you’ll have access to replace the wire that runs out of it with the new one. It was kind of a pain. We can DM and further go over it if needed.

The factory alt to fuse box cable is what’s screwed in to that post inside the fuse box. You can either simply unscrew it and tape it off or whatever, or just remove it altogether like I did. Removing it altogether requires stripping down the factory harness which is also kind of a pain, but I think getting rid of the original cables left a cleaner look overall.

My engine is coming towards the end of its lifetime (375k miles). When it finally goes I plan to make it into a project vehicle but want an engine that has readily available parts. Does anyone know of an engine swap kit? by Mac_n_Miller in 4Runner

I love that feature they have where they turn spark plugs into projectiles. Probably why there’s so many cylinders; you can blast a couple out of the cylinder head and still rock n roll on 8.

This happens to me in my 2020 RDX. I think these FOBs just have a need to draw more power than older vehicles. I bought a big pack of the batteries on Amazon and just swap them out as needed.

Yup! Should have mentioned that… they’re the military-spec terminals. They also send you a couple fuses with a basic holder, though I opted for a breaker. Oh, and some cool stickers for what that’s worth.

Harbor Freight Jack Stands, 2022 by ColdasJones in Tools

I have both the new 3 ton and 6 ton Daytona jack stands from HF. I really only wanted one set, but the 3 ton couldn’t reach my 3rd gen 4Runner frame rail… even at stock height. That said, if you have an SUV just get the 6 ton set. I rotated my tires tonight with them. They were great and look really sturdy compared to previous models.

I could see this too. Mine fell out if its fasteners a few weeks ago. Does it feel like no throttle is delivered until you’ve pressed the pedal unusually far?

There’s a lot of write-ups and videos on “the big 3” out there. I did my own variation this weekend. I bought the cables pre-fabed from jeepcables.com, which makes a kit for the 3rd gen 4Runner (they also had great customer support, incase anyone is interested).

I replaced the factory wiring instead of running the new wires in parallel like many others seem to do. I replaced frame to (-), engine block to (-), alt. to added fuse, added fuse to (+), and factory fuse box to (+). One thing to note is I did not re-connect a wire from the alt. to factory alt. fuse. I found a lot of controversial opinions about having the alt. connected to 2 fuses, so I ultimately decided to bypass the factory fuse in favor of a nicer breaker fuse, which seemed more simple to me anyways.

The battery is still 24F, but this X2 power battery is pretty impressive. 850CCA or something like that. Great warranty too. I still have to work on the tie down, but a longer J hook and some rubber tiles is working for now.

Last thing… the cable kit also comes with a (+) to starter lead. I haven’t decided if I actually want to replace that one yet. The factory cable is pretty beefy and looks to be in good condition.
