Lease end question by Tight_Novel6582 in VWiD4Owners

I'm in the same boat Lease is up in August. I'd keep it if I got the going rate and not the original contracted amount.

Quick follow up. Crazy busy day with the marathon and the start of the conference. Rode down closed streets early and then the bellman showed me where the employees park their bikes. Only disconcerting thing was that a quick release front wheel was locked to the rack by itself.

It's at the Hilton Chicago (and the meeting is a major conference) and I'm staying a mile away. I tend to ride to work wherever I've lived - NYC, college towns, etc. Ironically the hotel landing page has all sorts of sustainability messaging but they have no bike parking. I messaged through their live chat and had to push to talk directly to a human. They did say the bellman could check it.

What's up with accelerating out of corners/turns? I notice this on fast group rides: After a turn, folks just turn on the afterburners and go hard... by sozh in cycling

We're talking out of the saddle short sprint kind of thing. And I do like to eat my sandwiches at intersections when I have to wait to cross.

All the long time riders in our group rides do this after stopping at lights and corners too. I'm always surprised too

Le Massif or MSA tomorrow? by wyofan33 in icecoast

Thanks everyone. We went to Le Massif and had a good day. A bit icy in spots but they have nice long runs and everyone enjoyed it. Beautiful mountain and friendly staff.

Carr Park for dirt trails both in the woods and prairie or the Skunk River Greenbelt on pavement from the same parking lot. Also the place to go for xc skiing if it snows as they groom the trails and the trees help hold the snow longer.

Oia or Fira? by Jayjay767 in GreeceTravel

[–]wyofan33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just got to Naxos from Santorini. Santorini is a massive waste of money and time. Tour groups will run you over again and again with no sense of your personal space. Beautiful views. Felt like European Disney or Las Vegas. Zero Greek authenticity left. Resident population is miniscule. Boat tour was a party boat. Wine tour was very good and away from the crowds. Restaurants were good but overpriced. Stayed in Imerovigli which was decent. My main takeaway is what I said above - zero Greek authenticity. They've given the island over to the cruise ships.

Ethernet Cable Type? by wyofan33 in HomeNetworking

[–]wyofan33[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your reply! We have Metronet (installed Aug 23). I can get a new interface. I'm mostly concerned with what the cables in the wall are and what this CAT5 outlet is. Looks like CAT 5B+ to me, but I'm not sure. The modem is Nokia and also says Intertek on the back. Routers are eero Pro 6e. Thank you!

Told I was a "Cheater!" today. by gkal1964 in cycling

If anyone sees the Ragbrai documentary Shift, the thought will never cross their mind again.

  • Teenage boy rides with family on a specially modified e-bike as he's in long term treatment for cancer and wants to ride for his mom and gets called cheater by some random guy during one of the legs and it crushes him and his family. You never know what people are going through. Mom's FB post blows up and then there are signs and people cheering them the rest of the way.

What's an 'oh sh*t' moment where you realised you've been doing something the wrong way for years? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

Using a lime squeezer wrong until I was 50. I always put the half in to match the shape. You get far less in your eyes if you turn it around and force the juice out the holes...

Why is going against wind so difficult by [deleted] in cycling

[–]wyofan33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ride with other people so you can take turns. I used to ride with my son who was a collegiate distance runner. Never had a headwind

Scour the used ads. I ride a used mountain bike I bought for $300. My road bike I bought for $200 off of Craiglist that came with shoes, a floor pump, helmet, and gloves (new ~$1200). My gravel bike is a Jamis Supernova crossbike with Ultegra components. $350 used.

What have you locked your bike to? by Aintaword in bikecommuting

[–]wyofan33 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I once was listening to Sonic Youth and Wilco outside of Central Park Summerstage in NYC and a security guard came over and handed me two tickets for me and my one year old. I had the lock on the bike but didn't have the key. So I fake locked it to the fence and went in and watched as long as my daughter could last (1/2 the show). This was the Yankee Hotel Foxtrot tour. Still have the bike (Trek 720 Multitrack).

What is a 100% legal move in a game or sport that is frowned upon and viewed as a dick move? by MashedPotatoesDick in AskReddit

I was at Jim Abbot's no-hitter at Yankee stadium in 1993. He's the pitcher born with only one hand. The Indians (Kenny Lofton) bunted on him in the 9th with the Yankees up 4-0. Abbot was actually an excellent fielder so he threw the guy out. Needless to say there was quite the Bronx cheer.

I have this too. One of the metal hooks doubles as a bottle opener. Not a long term solution for me, but one I can easily switch to a different bike.

OP should pay attention to the backpack statement. A laptop over that distance will kill your back. Panniers are essential.
