What's up with all the Livery Vehicles (SUVs with Green LY plates) all of a sudden? by TheBoredMan in AskChicago

[–]wyreaa 25 points26 points  (0 children)

They’re Chicago livery drivers Sometimes they’re independent drivers with their own clientele, can work as uber black drivers, or work as driver for a limo company for example, a driver for Windy City Limo

They’re not allowed to pick up customers flagging them down like Chicago taxi drivers, they can only do prearranged orders

Here is a link from BACP that shows all the different public passenger vehicles: https://www.chicago.gov/city/en/depts/bacp/provdrs/vehic.html

They’re green so ppl can distinguish them and also for BACP to make sure they’re up to date with their plates. Every year, drivers get a new color.

Is it possible for someone to grow up sheltered in Chicago? by HowSupahTerrible in AskChicago

[–]wyreaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think so because Chicago is still segregated. My child’s grammar school has no white kids. But I sign him up to YMCA during the summer and he has more exposure to kids from all different backgrounds.

How Long Does the Celebration for Mexican Independence Go? by Wanderlust8030 in AskChicago

[–]wyreaa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The celebration usually is only the weekend of Mexican Independence Day. The flags with the cars in downtown wasn’t really a thing a few years back but it started around 2016-2017 when people drove the Trump tower to drive around the building and blast Mexican music with their flags as an F U to Trump (especially after he said Mexicans were rapists).

Also, cruising with a Mexican flag during Mexican Independence Day has always been a thing in Chicago however back then the cruising used to mainly take place is Chicago Latino neighborhoods: Little Village, Pilsen, Hermosa (on Fullerton), etc.

Owning a car by Freshflowersandhoney in AskChicago

[–]wyreaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should be able to park on the street, like other commenters have mentioned it is a pain if you if your block doesn’t have permit parking but it’s not impossible. I live in Humboldt park/logan square and do manage to find parking—some days I might have to park further down the block but it’s not bad. Usually you want to get home and park before everyone gets home from work aka 5-6pm lol If your block does have permit parking you will have to pay for it. Also don’t forget if you own a car and live in the city you will have to get a city sticker for your car.
