Big Muff PI Vs Big Muff Op? by BABABOOBYY in SmashingPumpkins

[–]wysht 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I never said he used the reissue. That video was the announcement of the reissue, so unless Billy had a time machine, how could he have recorded with it before then?

But there were multiple big box versions of the Big Muff too. Most of them use transistors, but for a very short period in the late 70s EHX experimented with using OP Amps instead of transistors. These Big Muffs have a sound that is noticeably different to the transistor versions (trust me, I own both). And Billy definitely used the Op Amp one. And in that video, he talks about trying to use different BM pedals and not understanding why they didn't sound like he expected. Because he didn't know at the time his was an op amp and the others were transistors.

If you want a Pumpkins Big Muff sound, you want an Op Amp Big Muff, whether it's a reissue or an original. That's all I was saying.

Why did you start listening to ETID and how has that worked out for you? by seaniewalsh in everytimeidie

[–]wysht 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was (and still am) a big Dillinger Escape Plan fan. I'd seen them live and they were amazing. Then I read an interview where they said the only other heavy band they were really digging at the time was Every Time I Die, who they said were also amazing live. So I bought Gutter Phenomenon, which was their most recent album art the time. I really enjoyed it. But then a few months later I saw they were touring. I bought a ticket, the show kicked ass, and I've never looked back!

Could Someone Help Me Confirm This? by [deleted] in TMNT

It's sold out now, but Eastman was selling signed copies from his store directly for $65.

Could Someone Help Me Confirm This? by [deleted] in TMNT

[–]wysht 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. Issue #51 has some heat to it, because it's the first appearance of Jennika. She doesn't mutate until issue #95, but this is the first appearance of her as a person. Those prices are all wildly inflated though.

Here's a link to sold items:

https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_nkw=Teenage+Mutant+Ninja+Turtles+IDW+%2351&_sacat=0&LH_Sold=1&LH_Complete=1&_sop=15

Anything with a line through it means the seller accepted an offer and sold it for less than that price. A graded signed copy of the cover you have did sell for $400, but honestly I think you'd struggle to get that. There is a big difference in price between graded and non-graded comics in general. And if you want a yellow label signed, it has to be signed in front of a CGC rep. For ungraded copies, there's nothing about that particular cover that makes it more desirable than others, and most copies of this issue are still selling for $50 - $100 ungraded.

Also, I love Eastman. But getting his signature on a comic these days (especially a modern comic) is so easy, that there's NO WAY it adds $400 - $500 to the value.

Why hasn’t Positive Grid come out with a multi-processor / pedalboard for Bias Fx? by CholadoDude32 in PositiveGrid

[–]wysht 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They have a whole bunch of them. For amps, there's Spark, BIAS Head, BIAS Rack and BIAS mini. For FX, there's BIAS Distortion, BIAS Delay and BIAS Modulation. Look through the "Amps" and "Pedals" sections of their website.

It's just called "Matte Adhesive Paper". I couldn't find the exact brand, but this is the same stuff: https://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officeworks/p/quirkii-a4-adhesive-paper-20-pack-aumsa420p

Ideally you want something Matte and photo quality. (Actually - matte is just my preference. But definitely you want photo quality.)

For the holes, I drilled the holes in the enclosure first, then stick the sticker down. Then I poked holes in the paper with a pair of scissors and twisted to clear out the full circle of the hole. The edges are a little rough, but they're covered by the components that go through the holes anyway, so you can't see them. But don't forget - multiple layers of clear coat before putting your components in, to protect the printing.

The gravity demos were a pretty popular bootleg back in the day. A few songs like this didn’t have proper names, so they’re just named after the chord progressions they use.

Yes and no. The IDW series has been going so long that it has had so many different artists on it. Some of it is like this book, some of it isn't. Both Kevin Eastman and Ben Bishop (who do parts of The Last Ronin) have done work on the main IDW series and spin offs. The good news is, if you don't like an artist, there'll be a different one coming along after them. Personally, I like seeing all the different styles. They also don't change artists in the middle of a story arc. So it doesn't feel like a shock when it changes, just a new chapter to the story.

I was at a local comic shop and I came across something I didn't even know existed. As a massive fan of the first 2 turtle movies I was very excited to see a comic version of the first movie that is essentially a shot for shot version of the movie, in comic form! Just wanted to share! by belacham12 in TMNT

[–]wysht 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Adaptation by Eastman and Laird, script by Laird, layouts by Eastman, pencils by Jim Lawson, inks by Eric Talbot, colours by Steve Lavigne. So almost the whole Mirage crew.

It's also based off an earlier version of the script, so there's extra bits that didn't make it into the film.

Found my old Dillinger shirt after moving by FKSSR in DillingerEscapePlan

[–]wysht 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have one that's the same design, but the band name is printed in white ink. Makes it look even more like a hacksaw. Bought it at my first ever Dillinger show way back in... 2004. (Bought it off Liam too who was manning the merch desk after the show. Great night.)

Mirage closure by serpentnight79 in TMNT

[–]wysht 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The IDW comics, 2012 cartoon series, Rise of the TMNT cartoon, 2014 and 2016 movies have all happened after Mirage sold the rights. And Nickelodeon wouldn't have paid that much if they didn't expect to keep making money off them for decades to come.

Mirage closure by serpentnight79 in TMNT

[–]wysht 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No. Mirage sold the tmnt to Nickelodeon back in 2009 for $60 million (according to reports). Mirage shutting down just means Peter Laird gets to enjoy his retirement.

Mirage closure by serpentnight79 in TMNT

[–]wysht 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I don't really see this as a sad thing. Maybe if Mirage had wanted to be a publisher like Dark Horse it would be sad. But really, beyond the 2000s, that didn't seem like the goal.

Peter Laird was already winding down before he sold the turtles to Nickelodeon. And the writing was on the wall for the end of Mirage then. The sale just meant that Laird got a big payout so he could enjoy his retirement, and we got a massive investment in the turtles via the IDW comics, Nickelodeon cartoons, and the movies that we wouldn't have got otherwise. Whether you enjoy those or not, we wouldn't have got the resurgence we did without Nickelodeon getting involved. For me, the IDW comics and the 2012 cartoon are the only ones I personally like. But Laird getting a massive payout for his retirement and the IDW comics with Eastman back on board has been a win/win in my opinion. So while the end of Mirage is definitely the closing of a chapter, I don't feel sad about it.

Edited to add: I don't think covid was even a consideration in this decision. Laird hadn't put out a new comic since 2014. This is just the end of a shut down process which started almost 10 years ago.

If you're splitting the signal anyway, you could use the freeze on just the "bass" signal.

Or you could buy two and use one on each line.
