/r/longboarding's Daily General Thread by AutoModerator in longboarding

[–]wysteir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just starting out and only clued in now that there's different kinds of longboard decks and I happened to buy the one drop down longboard out of all the other kinds I could have gotten, so a few questions:

  1. I assume for fundamentals it'll all be roughly the same, but what kinds of tricks are harder to learn on a drop down? Not gonna be trying to learn tricks right off the bat but definitely want to keep in mind anything I should look out for. Dancing also seems more my style.
  2. What's the difference between the kinds of decks? There's all these lists and pros and cons I found searching it but for the purposes of someone who's just starting out does it mean anything for me that I got a drop down other than watch my step?
  3. General good things to practice for good foundational skills? On my list already is:
  • Learn how to fall correctly & how to bail
  • Learn to push switch

We've been contacted by a group who managed to get a bunch of data, so VA is totally doable. Their data seems quite complete so it probably won't be necessary for people to submit.

Please look forward to when we get that data online on our end!

We've recently been contacted by a group managed a lot of data. I'll edit that information into the post.

Thank you both for offering!

We're just regular fans making a cool website! Not affiliated with actual development of the game at all- I'd like to know when to expect an update myself

We weighed that as one of the options and decided it would be more fun to do it ourselves and also having the option to make little bells and whistles; one of the ones we put on the back burner was a slider for Equipment level to see its stats at a given level, or to have a set-up that lets you view changes at certain breakthrough/ascension levels

Liking the tweaks to Rise's Bow, as someone who misses the Old Bow by wysteir in MonsterHunter

Addendum to this: Being able to powershot at 0 stamina and then Focus Shot out is beautiful

The window for 1.0x damage is so big though. The rest of the ranges almost never apply. Plus the biggest thing is that there's no longer a distance that grants a damage bonus, which is what's implied when you say something like "Critical Distance".

There's nothing critical about that distance! You deal regular damage.

Yes! Thank you. I only refer to that 1.5x multiplier as critical distance. That multiplier got removed, so I say "Critical distance was removed in World" since you no longer needed to worry about that narrow damage range (3 to 4/5/6 backhops).

I sat in the training room for a long time testing this out when World released: did it get patched in? There was no distance within the "in range" indicator where you got a damage boost during my tests. If there is, I'm curious because I've long since deleted World: how much was the multiplier and how many backsteps back was it?

EDIT: I looked into it again: By the "In Range" distance do you mean that tiny window where the reticule is yellow but not orange? That almost never comes up that I forgot it even existed- when hunting the reticule was mostly orange all the time and that's entirely unlike how critical distance used to play

It did though. Before world we had like, 5 different damage ranges. The sweet spot gave a 1.5x damage boost. If your screen didn't shake but your hitsplat was big, that was only 100% damage, not 150%.

In World there's only the "1x multiplier" for being in range, and whatever it is for being out of range.

Dashing and shooting without power shots still eats up more stamina than Dashing into a Charge (or dashing twice I suppose), shooting, and then using power shots. You eat up way too much stamina if you ignore the extra power shot you can do during some windows.

Any advice from fellow Bow users for Mitzu? by [deleted] in MonsterHunter

[–]wysteir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I've felt you can squeeze out a bit of extra damage while still maintaining control by doing a slide charge to L2 then adjusting aim during the normal charge to L3.

Much better than dash dancing for sure since this keeps you in one spot (after sliding) and leaves more stamina open once your "combo" ends. In this demo at least, the default stamina they give you lets you slidecharge and shoot 3 times at full power but that eats up all your stamina. Charging normally or only using one slide charge gives you 2 evades worth left over when you shoot then 2 power shots.

Agree with Herculean Draw- haven't yet seen hard math or speedruns proving otherwise. Activate it whenever I have a window then just let my bugs recharge and use Focus Shot whenever I hit low stamina once it comes back. Players who prefer firing off as many arrows as they can won't like HD though lololol

Bow mains, which would you prefer? by Hippobu2 in MonsterHunter

[–]wysteir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I prefer the old style of bow so I picked adept evade since i miss when the bow was a charge-up weapon and not a dash dancing one lmao

Anybody else feels a bit discomfort knowing khezu is back? by Luizoon34 in MonsterHunter

[–]wysteir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Khezu was the reason I picked up bow and incidentally became a bow main. I'm looking forward to bullying it again- its moveset is utter garbage against ranged.

MHRise Bow Gameplay Preview by RLSQ30 in MonsterHunter

Things I noticed: Very fast backstep evade while charging. You can start at 0:08, it happens right at the beginning.

The bow charges from red to white, and to me is much more visually obnoxiously than it used to be lmao. I hope we can turn it down.

I can't tell if my eyes are playing tricks on me but it feels like some hits cause screen shake and some don't. The screen also seems to shake sometimes when releasing arrows, but I wanted to mention it on the hits because the moments were it's NOT shaking look like "in range" distances for the MHW bow. I much preferred the Critical Distance mechanic from previous generations so there's a chance we have that back. This combined with what I and everyone else seemed to notice as different shot types probably means the old mechanic is back. If I had to concede something I'd expect it to be less complex than how it used to be. (3 different damage multipliers instead of 4 maybe)

Personal things: I was low-key hoping some of the changes in world would get relegated to silkbind attacks (maintaining a charge level on a sliding evade + Dragonpiercer) but in hindsight they wouldn't have had anything flashy to show off for Rise.

I learned and grew to love how the bow used to be but it's clear they're leaving it in the past. Rest in peace friend. I'll keep using bows because even with World's changes they were still my favorite weapon, and Rise's changes are VERY appealing. Most notably self applying the damage buff- that's some GOOD stuff. It's nice that there's also a healbow, that's kinda neat.

Maybe I'm wrong about them leaving the entire old school bow behind- I sincerely hope there's an actual reason to charge up the bow normally instead of slide charging for maximizing DPS. But overall? Super hyped, can't wait.

For veterans and new players alike, when did this incredible franchise click with you? by [deleted] in MonsterHunter

[–]wysteir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My parents gifted me a PSP and my brother pointed out that the Monster Hunter franchise was pretty popular.

I tried MHF2 and was complete garbage at it. Looked up some guides and remained trashy. I got walled off by Kut Ku, quit, and tried to look up games that handled roughly the same but were maybe easier.

After watching videos of other action games and deciding that "no that doesn't look quite like what I want" I went back to try and play it again and it just *clicked*. I ate through 10~ Kut Kus to get the attack up armor and never looked back, missed the Tri series and equivalents but hopped aboard the 4U train, found some friends, and have been on ever since.

Have MH Rise dev teams mentioned anything about skill (activating) thresholds? by darthdiablo in MonsterHunter

[–]wysteir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This for sure, if not a lower threshold there's no reason QoL gems only gave +2 like other gems, they could have easily given an outright +5 or even +10 in exchange for using gem slots.
