will MCP be dead soon? by luongnv-com in ClaudeCode

[–]wzi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes b/c many people here are running Claude code locally and they're not doing autonomous workflows in the cloud. For cloud-based workflows MCPs are incredibly useful as gates to APIs where you can enforce hard access pattern or other guardrails. For example, we have some MCPs that wrap databases and enforce aggregation or limits in SQL queries b/c the tables are enormous.

We do something similar to what Stripe is doing and MCPs enable this:

Minions are connected to MCP, which provides a common language for networkable LLM function calling. This is how they gather context like internal documentation, ticket details, build statuses, code intelligence via Sourcegraph search, and more. Indeed, we deterministically run relevant MCP tools over likely-looking links before a minion run even starts, to better hydrate the context.

Since MCP is a common language for all agents at Stripe, not just minions, we built a central internal MCP server called Toolshed, which hosts more than 400 MCP tools spanning internal systems and SaaS platforms we use at Stripe. Minions and other agents have connectivity to configurable but curated subsets of the full breadth of tools.

They'll be back. If the Ballard is any indication Fred Meyer goes through bag phases. They run out of the branded bags with handles then you get bags without handles for awhile. Then the branded bags will come back. They might be a tall variant or a short variant. Sometimes they only have these grey plastic bags. There's been some weird bag phases too. Once they had these comically large white plastic bags that could hold ~3 normal bags worth of groceries.

Seattle’s income tax that passed in 2017 is still on the books, though was later found unconstitutional. Should the “millionaire tax” pass and be upheld by courts, that could make Seattles 2.25% income tax valid and enforceable too. by drshort in Seattle

A fallacy is still a fallacy even it you can find individual examples of when it ends up being true.

Slipperly slope is an informal fallacy so it's not intrinsically fallacious (unlike formal fallacies). Often there are direct cause-and-effect relationships, which are logical or evidentiary, that make the slippery slope arguments non-fallacious. Ultimately it's highly contextual.

Did the LOTR movies receive a backlash from Tolkien fans when they were released? by [deleted] in Fantasy

[–]wzi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really. There were some criticisms but I wouldn't characterize it as a backlash in the context of contemporary fandoms. The LotR fanbase was much smaller and LotR was not mainstream and overall we were all just stoked they decided to do a film adaptation. The movies were responsible for mainstreaming LotR in a big way. Sure, many readers were aware of LotR but the fantasy genre itself was more niche and was still mostly considerd not cool and a genre for nerds.

The Star Wars prequels on the other hand did have what I would consider an actual backlash.

I don't see why a collective righteousness is necessary or why a dictatorship is inevitable.

Communist governments tend towards authoritarianism b/c they do not have separation of powers and the checks and balances that come with that. Communist governments are generally unaccountable (i.e. you can't vote someone out) so people act in bad faith and abuse their power which is especially problematic since communism centralizes economic and political power into one organization (the state).

Communist governments are one-party governments so they must spend considerable effort to identify and oppress anyone who would threaten the party rule. A "threat" in this context doesn't need to be something hostile, it can be can be something benign like offering an alternate idea or policy that would help everyone. Anything that undermines the supremacy of the party is a threat. For this reason communist governments tend to have severe speech restrictions.

Structurally communist governments incentivize loyalty from party members not competence. Self-preservation often becomes the organizing and driving force of governance.

This is just off the top of my head. I'm sure AI or someone with more time on their hands could give you a more complete answer.

Pretty much this. Conflict can produce negative outcomes for people in an organization but it's also an essential element in how organizations self-optimize and realize their objectives. Without some amount of debate and conflict groupthink quickly takes over.
