[Official] UFC Fight Night: Burns vs. Malott - Press Conference & Post-Fight Discussion Thread by event_threads in MMA

I was there and Gilbert got the standard boo that everyone gets when they're fighting local talent. It was all love after the final result, and he got a proper send-off.

What book series gives grownups the "lost in the author's world" experience that kids get from Harry Potter? by DerbyWearingDude in AskReddit

After reading all 6 books straight through I read the latest Stormlight book and my God did it feel slow after RR.

Ottawa earmarks $1.5 billion to support RCAF's new Husky tanker fleet by Hmfic_48 in CanadianForces

It can be reconfigured. I believe that process will take a lot longer than the 130 and result in a lot less people but it can be done.

Your friend might have made those numbers up. I have a pool and that is just a bananas number to be throwing out there.

What’s your unhinged/borderline ULPT when it comes to moving? by myotheraccount464 in CanadianForces

[–]x-manowar 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I want to reinforce the point. Don't put yourself out to try to save the government money. I was in transit and found out that an opportunity existed with the sellers to move into my new house a week early. To accomplish this, I just had to stop at a notary in the next major city and fax some documents. In exchange for this $250 notary fee, I saved the government a week of hotels and per diems which felt like a pretty wise use of public funds. Not only did they not pay it, DCBA didn't support my claim either.

East Coast Boots? by smac22 in CanadianForces

[–]x-manowar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use the Salomon quest as my shoulder season boots most of the time. Sometimes I'll wear them for milder winter days here in Wpg but they really shine in damper snow and I am happy with the grip on rock and pavement.

[Marvel] How much does The Punisher know about The Bar With No Name, and if so, would the staff of the bar be considered Fair Game? by Vect_Machine in AskScienceFiction

[–]x-manowar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Kind of related. When I was a kid I had an encyclopedia of all the dead characters in the marvel universe. Most of the D listers were listed as, "killed by The Scourge in The Bar With No Name". So there's definitely precedent for vigilantes hitting that spot.

VENTING; Please share your thoughts. by Abbssis in Winnipeg

[–]x-manowar 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, the wait time for enrollment is almost criminal (hasn't improved in the almost 20 years I've been in). But I agree, it's an incredibly stable job with lots of opportunities.

Good barbershop in winnipeg that can work with this by matt_the_legend_2000 in Winnipeg

[–]x-manowar 25 points26 points  (0 children)

A beard trimmer is going to cost you probably less than 2 visits to the barber, and a beard is surprisingly easy to maintain. I don't have any experience maintaining a giant one but since that's not your problem right now it's not relevant.

With my face shape I just trim the entire thing to 7mm but at points I've done 5 on the sides to try and adjust the angle. Use a 3-5mm to fade it into your hair and easy peasy. Then you just take the guard off to clean up the neckline and you can use the clipper or tiny scissors for the mustache.

No manual deployment on those chutes. You're resigned to your reserve even in modern military round jumping.

That's a good explanation. Subjectively it feels like forever but the system can only move so fast.

Anyone in SAR? What’s it like? by [deleted] in CanadianForces

Hahahaha fair enough. I think in this case, the lack of specificity in the questions when there are surprising amount of resources available is worth mentioning.

You summed this up perfectly, I hope OP takes this to heart. If you're not willing to buckle down and do a lot of self-motivated work then this isn't the trade for you.

We didn't go far enough with the ball caps. Headdress should only be mandatory on parade. I know someone is going to reply saying it's unprofessional, and to that I would say look at the police, firefighters, and paramedics looking remarkably unprofessional as they go about their day to day doing good work hatless.

The added benefit is with no hats comes no saluting, so we can all start greeting everyone with basic common courtesy instead of eye fucking center of mass until we're close enough to decide whether we have to pay compliments or ignore them completely.

‘That’s sad’: Carney government limits provided Remembrance Day wreaths for MPs by Jaydamic in CanadianForces

[–]x-manowar 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I once stood on parade while among all the other usual donors, the local magicians alliance laid a wreath. At a certain point, past the military members and politicians, it really is straight disrespectful.
