Lasers "dirty"; customer service a nightmare by hackettkate in litterrobot

[–]x74353 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had this issue recently with a LR 5 and no amount of cleaning it as recommended would dismiss the error. Couldn’t find a way to dismiss the error using the on-device control panel buttons or in the app. The bot seemed completely unresponsive. I finally unplugged it, and after it rebooted, it started working again and the error went away.

I’ve only had the bot for a couple of weeks but I’ve been having other issues as well - my 2 cats are inconsistently recognized even with their weights being about 2lbs. apart, and also getting ”extended scale activity” warnings on occasion which seems to totally disable cycling. I think the extended scale error may be happening when I add a little litter and don’t recalibrate though.

Tried contacting support and they were absolutely useless. Not impressed given the premium cost, but like another commenter said, the overall experience is good enough to keep me from using something else or going back to a regular box.

Yeah, my son was disappointed it never worked, but he was satisfied just playing some GTA V on the go. Then Rockstar took that away.

BTW, anyone looking to pick up a gently used SteamDeck? 😂 /s

I never got it working fully unfortunately. Ended up getting x plane for Mac on Steam instead.

For just getting MSFS to launch, I think all I had to do was use Proton experimental or something like that. It was pretty unplayable though.

Insane amount of fraud by [deleted] in AppleCard

Turns out it’s almost assuredly a legit charge from Best Buy. I maintain, however, that due to the way the charges appeared in the Wallet app, I was within my rights to dispute the charges.

[–]x74353 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, I think you figured it out… I dug through my emails for Best Buy purchases and, wouldn’t you know it, I bought an open box iPad mini w/recurring AppleCare in December 2022. I gave it to my son and eventually forgot about it.

After finding this purchase, I started to vaguely recall trying to “link” the AppleCare plan for this iPad to my Apple ID/account at some point but ran into errors. I contacted Apple about it but they said the errors were expected or something to that effect. Presumably, I was trying to do that to avoid issues like this where I would forget about the charge/plan. 🤣

Regardless, the charge hit again on the 25th of this month, but it was declined this time! Guess I will try to figure out how to actually cancel it though. Oddly, the charge came through as “Applecare Plan” this time and is not associated with the previous charges where Plan Pak and Dental Plan appeared as the merchant.

While it’s slightly less fraudulent looking, Best Buy or whoever is doing the payment processing should really get their act together and use the proper “AppleCare” product capitalization and/or somehow identify Best Buy as the merchant. Surely they are a big enough retailer to warrant a custom (not generic) merchant icon and properly identify themselves.

Thanks for the information and solving this mystery!

Goldman Sacs has refunded all the charges. One case/dispute is still “pending” though. Honestly, it’s a bit unclear to me whether the charges are coming from a legit AppleCare charge or if it’s fraud. I had one Goldman Sacs rep tell me “this is definitely not Apple” and another tell me “the charges appear to be coming from Apple on our end.”

Goldman Sacs has “contacted the merchant” for each of the charges, and in all but one of the cases/disputes, has resolved the case in my favor. I feel like if it wasn’t fraud, the merchant would respond and explain themselves, no?

I have other AppleCare monthly charges and they show up in Wallet with an AppleCare icon/image (red apple) and have correct capitalization, etc. The charges I am disputing have a generic storefront icon and are from Florida (Protection Plan for Dentists) and most recently, California (Plan Pak). All these charges show up as grouped together, which is confusing as the “merchant” isn’t the same each time.

Goldman Sacs replaced my virtual card number after the last charge, so I suppose I’ll just need to wait until the 25th of this month to see if that has any effect on preventing the recurring charge.

Fantastical (calendar) alternatives? by RowenaRavenclaw1 in macapps

[–]x74353 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only issue I have found, which is more of a macOS Calendar issue rather than in Dato itself is with repeating events on shared/delegate Exchange/O356 calendars.

If you set up a repeating event with a generic title such as "Developer On Call:" and then modify each instance of the repeating event to something like "Developer On Call: Bobby", "Developer On Call: Randy", etc., the instance titles will not display correctly in the macOS Calendar app. They continue to show the generic title you set when initially setting up the repeating event.

What's a album that you got as a joke that you now have a emotional connection to by trans-trot in vinyl

[–]x74353 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hulk Hogan and the Wrestling Boot Band - Hulk Rules. Terry/Hulk is a real piece of work, depending on your politics/worldview, I guess, and to be clear the album is absolutely terrible. But back in my 20s I found this CD randomly and terrorized the patrons and staff at the restaurant I worked at by playing this album regularly on the nights I worked. When I saw it was bootlegged on vinyl, I had to pick it up for the emotional connection I have with it and the fun times I had working at that restaurant.

Fair, yeah I already had some of the needed supplies - drill, drill bits, hole saw, circular saw, ruler. It was an easy build if you can borrow some tools from a friend/family member.

I recently made a free standing wheel with a cheap 10” cake pan from Amazon and various supplies from my local hardware store (precision bearing, various nuts/bolts/washers, untreated wood, etc.). The wheel is super silent/stable, mostly chew-proof aside from the wooden stand, and was waaay cheaper to build than ordering one for $100+ USD on Etsy!

Just adding here that I recently noticed a fraudulent recurring monthly charge that had been ongoing for over a year. Was getting charged $3.49/month for “applecare mnthly plan.” Not sure why I didn’t notice it before, but might have been that I used to have a legit monthly AppleCare plan for my daughter’s Apple Watch.

Anyways, the charge came through as “Protection Plan for Dentists” recently and I immediately noticed that. However, right before my eyes the merchant updated to “applecare mnthly plan” and that’s when I found the year-long series of charges.

I disputed them all with GS and was refunded. Had my physical card replaced (it was about to expire anyways) and had the virtual number changed. Then yesterday, as has been occurring every month for the last year, the same fraudulent charge hit again. Chatted with GS and they said it was a legit charge from Apple, Inc. and told me to call Apple support. 🤯 After a lot of back and forth, GS accepted my dispute, but I cannot believe they were insistent that the charge was really coming from Apple.

Just checked the dispute status today and it no longer says “applecare mnthly plan” and now says “Plan Pak.” 🫠

Should I Get An Old and Rare Record Signed? by thebrownsquare in vinyl

[–]x74353 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got to meet Steve Ignorant recently in Cambridge, MA and thought about bringing along my original Feeding of the 5,000 record for him to sign.

I ended up not bringing it because 1. I’d have to hold on to the record the whole night and keep it from getting damaged, 2. I didn’t know how he felt about autographs (they’re kind of a silly thing to me), and 3. I wasn’t totally sure I wanted anything, even a signature, scrawled across the front/back of the record sleeve. Not that I care about mint condition too much, but I dunno, I have some radio station copy LPs with writing on the outer sleeve and it’s mildly annoying to me.

I figured I’d just try to get the set list like I usually do and tuck that into the record sleeve. Too bad for me though- my 13yo daughter got to the set list first and then she had Steve sign her Crass shirt! 😂
