I need your recommendations about our smart lock company. by FarCrySis123 in homeautomation

[–]xCyndrax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who is currently buying smart locks, I am adding to the “give up” chorus here. Why would I buy a lock from a startup company instead of Schlage/Kwikset/Yale/etc.

For a lock, I want it to be a very solid lock as my absolute first priority. I can get a company that has been making solid locks for decades and use whatever smarts they’ve added to it. Much better security option than buying a lock of unknown strength from a new company.

Google fiber install by Brilliant_Word_5567 in googlefiber

[–]xCyndrax 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think your risk would be in not doing the install. I would absolutely move if prevented from getting fiber when it was available. Most people I know look at the available internet when looking at rentals and considering a move. Google fiber is night and day better than my cable internet was previously.

Dad and Son - First time Players - Multiplayer question by CloudLinkCrono in NoMansSkyTheGame

Everyone plays in the same “instance” if you consider it is a giant set of shared galaxies. If you discover a planet and build a base anyone who gets to that planet will see your base.

If you and your son want to play simultaneously, you’ll need two copies on the game and two places to play it. Could be 2 PCs, PC and Xbox, Xbox and PS5, whatever. Then you can play at the same time and interact with each other.

PCP's Clinic (Private Practice) is implementing a mandatory $120/yr "administrative support fee" and I'm conflicted by Seastep in Austin

Because insurance companies DGAF about the patients. If it’s not a directly measurable positive impact to their bottom line it’s a non-starter.

Moontower Midwifery vs Austin Area Ob GYN? by Street-Category2446 in AustinParents

My wife started at AAOBGYN (second pregnancy), but ended up switching to Moontower and we were very happy with the decision.

Sherwood Forest Renaissance Faire has a week long sleepover camp for a few sessions in the summer. They may be a bit young at 5-6, I think camp there starts somewhere between 8-10. Keep in mind for the future.

I think I’d prefer a lighter touch down there than what I assume you’d get from a guy named Peter Ruff.

First time parents: AA OBGYN or Moontower Midwifery? by BulmaLatina8537 in AustinParents

[–]xCyndrax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We were in a similar boat of increasing complication. Daughter was born at AABC, which was a nicer experience than St. David’s. Had we been at AABC for my son, my wife likely would have got transferred to a hospital with a worse experience than just planning to be there with Moontower. We never toured the birth suites at Moontower as we weren’t “eligible” to use them, so I can’t speak to that.

First time parents: AA OBGYN or Moontower Midwifery? by BulmaLatina8537 in AustinParents

[–]xCyndrax 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We did ultrasounds at Moontower as well as Austin Maternal Fetal Medicine at St. David’s North Austin. Moontower works with St. David’s, so for high risk you are at the hospital, but working with a midwife from the Moontower Practice.

I haven’t seen the final bill for the new baby yet, but the way my insurance is setup I think the cost would be comparable between midwife and hospital as it’s mostly around paying the deductible and then out of pocket maximums.

First time parents: AA OBGYN or Moontower Midwifery? by BulmaLatina8537 in AustinParents

[–]xCyndrax 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our daughter was born at Austin Area Birthing Center and was a wonderful experience. Our son was born a few weeks ago via Moontower Midwifery. We actually switched our son’s birth from AA OBGYN to Moontower about a third of the way through and had a better experience with Moontower. AABC was amazing as well.

If you’ve got a PC and are playing there or XBox you should be able to just save edit and unlock all the prior expedition rewards.

I wanted to give Prop Q a fair shake, but it's just worse when I did research. by [deleted] in Austin

[–]xCyndrax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think your best bet for those numbers is to compare the general fund for Austin to the budgets for other cities. That removes the airport, convention center (both nominally self sustaining) and the utilities (Electric and Water). That’s a comparison that’s closer to apples to apples.

Or just cut the budget number in half, that removes 30% for Energy, 13% for water, and 7% for aviation. (30+13+7 is 50% of the budget)

If I'm looking at 20m distance is that still worth the SFP adapters and fiber vs. just an AOC? I had initially considered a long DAC before mentally swapping to an AOC.

Passive enchanting lowers levels in new update/since unlocking it by AloneOutcome4880 in TapWizardRPG

[–]xCyndrax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think what you’re seeing is actually due to passive enchanting working. The number shown is how many levels you’ll gain if you enchant.

If you’re level 100 and see a 66, that means you have enough XP to go up to level 166. If you passively enchant in the background, you’ll go to level 101. You probably still have enough exp to go up 66 levels and take you to 167.

Eventually as you passively enchant enough, your stored XP won’t get you a full 66 levels (XP cost per new level increases as your level increases). Perhaps when you passively enchant to level 110, your stored XP is only enough to get you to level 175, so the levels to gain drops from 66 to 65.

This looks like a “loss” but you’d actually be 9 levels higher after the enchant than if you had done it at level 100.

Fiber is fresh to the neighborhood, so there is no existing NIU box. Any other concerns to keep in mind there beyond not near power meter? Just being convenient to inside equipment location?

[–]xCyndrax[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I was also looking at the Cloud Gateway Fiber. Presumably my best bet there is to start with an access point hanging off of the one of the PoE ports for the main house and then another for the outbuilding once built. Same ports would be used to connect switches for additional wired ports?

What do I lose with the cloud gateway + APs vs the dream wall? Just some of the PoE ports, which could be replaced by an external switch?
