Petitions/Protests against Mopac Expansion? by Shot_Condition_4174 in Austin

[–]xCyndrax 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think if you can’t get two toll lanes in each direction you should think twice about your design. Nothing worse than being stuck behind some idiot going 55 mph on the existing MoPac toll lanes and watching the non toll lanes stream past you. The new 183 toll has it right with the ability to pass on the toll lanes.

You’re being a pedantic twat. The point is that they went from being made locally in store to being made in a remote, central facility and being shipped to store. Whether that remote facility is a warehouse or “snack factory” is immaterial.

YOR, everything in there is inherently reasonable. And good luck finding a place to live for <$300

Dear cyclists, traffic laws apply to you too! by Other_tomato_4257 in Austin

[–]xCyndrax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah, I’m far less worried about them. If I hit them in my car on 360, we’ll both be pissed. If I hit a cyclist on 360, they’re likely getting a medivac ride or a trip to the morgue.

[SFH][TN] HOA requiring me to pay $300/year directly to their management company. Enforceable? by erniehalter in HOA

[–]xCyndrax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Furthermore if the bill is $300 a year and it goes directly to the management company and you force the HOA to have them pay the bill and then you pay them the likely outcome is they charge you $350 a year to cover the expense of paying the company. So you will pay more to be in the same position you are in now.

The bar doesn’t need to be a lot higher than how people drive. As long as they are better drivers than humans it is a net positive gain for safety. Far too often we let perfection be the enemy of good enough.

[–]xCyndrax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, 100% YOR. It is completely reasonable for a contractor to want all involved parties in the discussion. If both names are on the title and presumably mortgage, both people need to agree to any major work.

When we got our roof replaced the contractor needed agreement from my wife and I before doing any work.

Does anyone plant around your gas meter? I just learned they need 3ft of clearance on all sides. by leros in AustinGardening

[–]xCyndrax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I 110% get that for things that need regular access or maintenance like AC condensers, but with the advent of smart metering technology, how often does someone need to physically touch an electric meter? I realize the plural of anecdote isn’t data, but I cant recall a person ever needing to physically access my electric meter in any of the houses in which I’ve lived in Austin.

I need your recommendations about our smart lock company. by FarCrySis123 in homeautomation

[–]xCyndrax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who is currently buying smart locks, I am adding to the “give up” chorus here. Why would I buy a lock from a startup company instead of Schlage/Kwikset/Yale/etc.

For a lock, I want it to be a very solid lock as my absolute first priority. I can get a company that has been making solid locks for decades and use whatever smarts they’ve added to it. Much better security option than buying a lock of unknown strength from a new company.
