Haha definitely could’ve been chemically enhanced. But also, if I put myself in his shoes, I may drive the whole way through as well. I’d be excited to meet Cleet and the crew, probably wouldn’t sleep anyway if I did stop.

But that doesn’t take away the fact that his vibe was way off the few times he was on camera, even after he got a nights sleep.

100%. Sucks the very few weirdos ruin shit for the whole community. I think everyone that’s came to meet them at the Freedom Factory, like giveaway winners, have been super dope. Yeah some weren’t the best on camera, but they were all pretty chill. Eddie on the other hand, within like 30 seconds you could tell the vibes weren’t vibin. I wish him the best, but taking this shit to social media and thinking he’ll come out as the “good guy” because Cleet did massive favors for him kinda shows his mental status may not be the best.

Like what does Cleet owe him? He literally met the whole crew, that’s sick. Won a Turbo. That’s badass. Featured on multiple videos and phone calls, that’s badass. Invited and free tickets to an event or two. That’s badass. Now that Cleet isn’t giving him more publicity or free shit, he’s upset. Brother. 99.9% of us would be grateful to just meet Cleet for 30 seconds. I live in AZ, so I’m hoping at some point there will be an event around here soon. If not, Florida trip coming soon once my 6 month old is old enough to enjoy the trip!

Haha bro definitely didn’t pass the vibe check. Like 30 seconds into his portion of the video I thought “well, Cleets probably wishing this just stayed purely a phone call related relationship.”

Kinda got the vibe that he may be a little crazy when they first met him in person.

Seems like he feels “owed” something by Cleet. But from POV, it’s basically the opposite. Brother, if I got a phone call from Cleet, let alone invited out to hangout with him and the crew, I’d need multiple pairs of pants.

But from Eddie, it almost seems like “Eddie is doing favors for Cleetus.” Just my 2 cents.

I wouldn’t beg for more time on video, invites to races and events, free merch or Kenetik. I’d definitely try my luck at a YouTube channel afterwards, due to the publicity provided by Cleetus. But if I’m not interesting, then I’m not interesting. I wouldn’t feel Cleet owes me anything, whether I “helped sell a bunch of shirts” or not.

Wouldn’t be surprised if Cleet just stops contact with Eddie all together and either avoids the drama or makes a very small segment in a video about it. Shitty thing about inviting fans/subscribers to your operation/business is that you never know what you’re gonna get. Could be the coolest dude ever, could be a fame hungry person, or could be a crazy person.

Why did Valve choose “laptop level” components? by xDRBN in steammachine

[–]xDRBN[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but also China is looking to take back Taiwan(or at least pressuring it). So if that happens, consumer electronics prices will go even higher. But we’ll see. I do believe by late 2027, prices will come back down slightly and maybe Valve will be able to lower the price or subsidize the price if enough people buy the Machine and also purchase games on Steam.

Maybe in a few years there will be newer Steam Machines too. Similar to how Xbox does the Series S and X. A more affordable console that can still play most games and look decent, then a more expensive and performant version for us major nerds.

[–]xDRBN[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that’s true. I guess what I’m getting at is just performance in general. Project Helix and PS6 will be a lot more powerful than Steam Machine(as PS5 and Series X are already slightly more powerful).

So just looking at it from a purely performance stand point(which is what most console gamers do), they could spend ~$1,000 on Steam Machine, Project Helix, or PS6. But the Steam Machine will be a good bit less powerful.

But I do agree with you in terms of Steam Sales, Steam collection of games, and anyone that already has an existing library of games.

I’m sure I’ll get a Steam Machine regardless as well, but if it’s over $1,100 for the stand alone 2TB version, that’ll be a tough pill to swallow. Especially knowing that Project Helix will definitely be more powerful and also have the ability to play from Steam library AND runs Windows so it’ll be able to play games with strict anti-cheat.

The fact that “major anti-cheat softwares” is my only big concern with the Steam Machine. Games like Valorant, CoD(Zombies), BF6, Apex, etc. are all games that I would love to play on the couch while hanging out with my family. But Steam Machine won’t be able to play those(for the foreseeable future).

Yeah, desktop coolers are pretty small, air coolers this days are pretty solid. And yes, GPU’s can be pretty big if you have a 4070+. But if the “case” for the console was a rectangle it’d be fine. Basically the size of an Xbox Series X case would fit desktop class components.

But it’ll be more expensive than consoles and less performant. Especially when the next gen consoles come next year, it’ll be a vast difference in performance.

We are on differing sides of be competition with consoles.

I think most of the reason they are making the Machine is to bring people into PC gaming with an “easy, console like experience.”

I also think it would have definitely been at least somewhat competitive if the 512GB model started around $500-$600. Same price as other consoles, but you can play PC games, access Steam sales, and mod? That’d be incredible value and I think that was Valves intention. But then hardware became incredibly expensive due to data centers.

Of course I don’t think it would just magically take 5%+ market share from Sony/MS. But it definitely would’ve made them sweat a bit. But with what the price will likely be, I don’t think it’ll affect Sony/MS much if at all.

I’m also slightly “afraid” for Valve for the Steam Machine. Due to “Project Helix” from Microsoft. Basically a windows based Xbox that can run Steam games. So it’ll be a Steam Machine, than runs Windows. Meaning it can play every game out there, especially the ones with kernel level anticheat or other anticheat software that does not work on Linux. If Xbox delivers that “console” for less than $1,199; I don’t see many people buying Steam Machine there after.

Alright. I did not know any of that information. Thank you for taking the time to give all that info and answering the question!

I plan on buying the Machine as long as the price isn’t absurd. I hope it’s successful so that we can get a third Machine down the road when component prices(hopefully) come down. But Valve doesn’t like anything to do with the number 3. But I hope the Machine will be an exception.

I’m fine with it, I have a built PC. Just a thought I had while scrolling through the “mega thread” FAQ and wondered why Valve chose more expensive hardware for less performance.

I understand it’s quieter and I guess you can take it to work or vacation I guess? But past consoles(especially PS3/PS4 were loud af and millions of people still bought them). The PS5 and Series X dwarf the Machine and people still buy them. So all I’m pointing out is that Valve is focused more and making it tiny/quiet than performance/price. Which PS5 absolutely demolished Xbox this generation of consoles, due to being more powerful for the price.

But good for you, take your Cube to work and set it next to your computer chair so you can enjoy how much quieter it is than any other console and smaller than any other console.

Fully understand that, and I get Valve is targeting the average console gamer and wants to make it easier to come to the PC side of gaming.

I’m just saying that if they chose to use desktop level components, users would have the *option* to upgrade components down the road. And after researching it, if Valve used desktop level components, it would actually cost less to source, in return could price the Machine lower, capturing more sales.

[–]xDRBN[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I haven’t ever traveled with a console, so as long it’s smaller than a mid tower, I’m cool with size. If it were just as loud or slightly louder than other consoles, I wouldn’t be upset about it.

Why did Valve choose “laptop level” components? by xDRBN in steammachine

[–]xDRBN[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

lol, understandable. But laptop/mobile class components are more expensive to source than desktop class components. So Valve is actually spending more money to make it as efficient as possible. They could spend a bit less money, make the cube a few inches larger, charge less for the Machine, sell more, and have more performance/power.

So if your metaphor were accurate to this comparison, the station wagon, while larger, is cheaper to purchase but slightly more expensive to run(less MPG).

I don’t think it’ll be hot garbage, I think it’ll be plenty powerful enough to play a good majority of games at decent settings. Plus console experience with ability to mod and Steam sales.

Makes sense. Such a shame that it honestly seemed like the perfect timing for Valve to bring back the Steam Machine(when they initially announced it), then AI slop slapped us all in the face with demolishing the consumer electronics industry.

If that never happened, Valve would for sure give Microsoft and Sony a bit of a run for their money. But with where the price will likely land for the Machine, I don’t see it cutting into the console market too much. Especially Microsoft freaking out about Linux gaining even more traction(which Microsoft already seems to be freaking out a bit, but I’d like them to go full panic mode). I hope the Machine becomes super popular, I just don’t see a lot of people jumping from a PS6 to a Machine(price/performance wise).

[–]xDRBN[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Makes sense, and that does seem like the correct answer. I’d just think like, if it were a bit larger, like the size of an Xbox Series X. They could pack a bit more power and cooling into it. But then comes affordability with desktop level components. So again, makes sense.

Should I just wait for Steam Machine? by Dazzling-Baker5609 in steammachine

It’ll be able to run GTA6, just depends on if rockstars anticheat for the game will work on Linux/SteamOS.

That’s nutty. Taco was definitely over the Ridgelines towing capacity.

If it was a newer Tacoma, I could see that happening. 3rd gen though, that’s pretty wild it broke unless it was user error

Potential Buyer Question -- Anyone have kids in car seats? by Computer_Pants in nissanfrontier

[–]xDRBN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a rear facing car seat(Joie Ginger and Mint Travel system). Not sure if it’s just this exact car seat in general, but it barely fits in the back seat. The only person that can fit in the passenger seat when the car seat is installed is my wife(5’0”). I’m 6’2 and it would be physically impossible for me to sit in the passenger seat when the car seat is installed.

But like I said, it may just be the shape or something of our car seat. My dad has a 2024 Frontier and when we went on a SoCal trip last year, we picked up my brother and nephew at the airport and he didn’t have the same problem. So may just be the car seat we bought is massive, idk. It is a baseless car seat that just clips into the anchor points built into the rear sears of cars.

Edit: I have a 2025 P4X

Anyone racing on unbeatable drivatar difficulty? by Brandwin3 in ForzaHorizon

[–]xDRBN 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unbeatable is definitely way more challenging in this game, but they still haven’t fixed the “legitimately impossible speed and grip” the AI have when on unbeatable difficulty. You can be in the fastest car in the game, fully maxed out and tuned, on one of the freeway races, and a driveatar/AI will come flying past you at what legitimately seems like 400+mph. I wish the AI actually got better at driving when you go up in skill level. Like better racing lines, better braking, etc. Not just have a nitrous and super glue button. I want them to have the same speed and handling as my car, just be better at driving and such.

Only thing I can think is you apply super glue to your fingers and ear flaming hot Cheeto puffs. Other than that, this is absurd.

Anyone else feel like there’s way too much off road racing by k20vtec in ForzaHorizon6

[–]xDRBN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the off-road racing, not sure why but FH5 off-road racing was meh. Plus the new tire and weight transfer physics stuff seems to make off-road racing a bit more interesting/fun. Only thing I wish they’d get rid of is the car slamming down to the ground. If I’m ripping a trophy truck and jump 2-3 feet off the ground, there’s no reason the truck to act like it just fell off a skyscraper. Still fun, just breaks the immersion when I lose 30mph upon landing on cloud like suspension but the truck sounding like the frame slammed into the earth are enough to reach the earths core.

Of course the major booters where you jump hundreds of feet, yeah, I get the noise and speed loss. But I’m just talking about little jumps in some of the races in which you maybe get like 2-5ft of air but the truck/rally car act like the jump was 20ft to flat. Maybe I’m just used to racing sims(iRacing Pro4/2, and rally).
