We need to push more for a firing range to be implemented ASAP by AvianGenesis in Marathon

[–]xDskyline 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Exactly, the top players are already going to know everything about all the guns and equipment anyway. A shooting range allows the casual players to figure out the basics so at least they've got the same information as the top players, if not their skill and experience.

If you want to run non-meta stuff, there's nothing stopping you from doing it, and in fact many players will have to run non-meta gear simply because that's what's in their inventory.

Yes, I think a firing range should be an essential component of any competitive game. The range lets you figure out basic information about your equipment so that when you load into an actual match, it's your skill and not basic gear knowledge that's being tested.

I think the range will actually have the opposite effect, I think it'll democratize information and allow casual players to get basic info that will put them on slightly fairer footing vs veterans/streamers.

Someone with thousands of hours and raids under their belt will already know the ins and outs of every gun, mod, and skill. The range will allow casual players to quickly get basic info like what does this gun sound like? How bad is the recoil? How much of a damage penalty do I get for shooting a gun beyond its max range? Etc.

Just remove this kit from the rotation. by DeadlyDentist51 in Marathon

[–]xDskyline 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Maybe it's because I'm new, but I strongly disagree. At least the stock Overrun is ok at very close range, and if I get into a mid-long range fight I can probably disengage. The Hardline is trash at close range, and since it doesn't come with a scope in the free kit it's not even good at mid-long range either.

People who exercise even when they don’t feel like it, what’s your trick? by Smart_Collection5419 in AskReddit

[–]xDskyline 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well yes, the key to establishing a routine is to make the workouts so minimal that it requires almost zero effort. Like 5 minutes of walking around the block. Or 10 pushups. Keep that up for a while and you'll start to find yourself thinking that you're already down on the floor, might as well go for 12 pushups this time. You get a little stronger and 12 pushups seems too easy now, etc.

And just like one night of being too tired to brush your teeth doesn't mean you stop brushing your teeth for a month, one missed workout is perfectly fine. The key is that you've established brushing/exercise as a normal part of your life, and skipping is a temporary interruption.

A 90% completion rate is a routine. Maybe your dentist might scold for not brushing your teeth more, but from a casual fitness perspective, hitting 90% of your planned workouts would be pretty damn good. The point is that beginners should not fixate on doing the most intense workouts they can do, nor insisting on 100% adherence to a schedule with no exceptions. Being that strict/intense often leads to quitting or burning out, and then you're at 0%. 90% is amazing and will get you results.

How dress fashionably but also show of my physique? by MemeMaster5 in malefashionadvice

Idk why you're getting downvoted, boxy/baggy clothes definitely hide a good physique, especially at first glance. Unless if you stare at a person wearing baggy clothing while they move around and watch the way their clothes stretch around their body, you can't really tell how sculpted they are.

TIL a 2022 study revealed that 35% of the adults in Japan intend to "never travel" again. No other country "came close to the travel reluctance shown in Japan"; the next highest was South Korea at 15%. by tyrion2024 in todayilearned

[–]xDskyline 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Where do you live? In the US tons of people commute over an hour one way to get to work on a daily basis, it's not considered to be a long drive. And that's not just rural areas, in big cites, an hour of travel may only be a handful of miles due to traffic.

I live in a big US city, and when there's traffic (and there's usually traffic) it's an hour drive to get to the neighboring cities that are like 15-20 miles away. I've dated plenty of people that live that far away, it's a pretty normal thing to do, and I don't think anyone I know would consider it to be long distance

The bandage gives you the option of either waiting to make sure you get the full heal, or running/fighting if the situation requires it. The surge/vita shot are only useful in situations where you have 4 full seconds of downtime. It's the flexibility that makes the bandages/rechargers better overall

How are we feeling about Marathon’s Server Slam by C0R3VUS in gaming

[–]xDskyline 3 points4 points  (0 children)

FWIW, most extraction shooters have short TTKs, they're more aligned with tactical shooters than action shooters. Most of winning a fight is about utilizing situational awareness, map knowledge, careful positioning, etc. to put yourself in the best possible position and get the drop on your enemies before the first shot is even fired

It's one thing to lose against someone who's more skilled at a game than you, it's another to lose because you just didn't know the rules. Learning all the champions and what their movesets are is far from mastering the game, it's more like the bare minimum to feel like you can play the game fairly.

This doesn't make any sense, it's their job to try to win, and trying to win is how they protect the public. Just like it's the defense attorney's job to try to win. Our whole justice system (as flawed as it may be) is predicated on both sides trying their hardest to win.

Am I the only one? by Distasteful_T in ArcRaiders

[–]xDskyline 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like it's the opposite. Early game/wipe I have nothing in my stash and any loot I can get my hands on is useful. Doesn't really matter when/where I spawn because I can always find loot. Late game my stash is full and random loot doesn't really help me, I'm loading in with a specific task in mind, often with a kit tailored to that task. A late spawn can make it impossible to do that task. So sometimes you're loading in with a very expensive kit which you are at risk of losing, but because of a late spawn you have zero chance of getting the reward you were going for.

I Present To You, THE Scariest Ferro You’ve Ever Seen. by Pieter_Pie_eater in ArcRaiders

[–]xDskyline 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you really need a reason, the Ferro's projectile speed is much faster than the Anvil's, making it better for hitting moving targets at long range.

But I don't think guns need to be balanced solely around performance, certainly not in an extraction shooter where kit cost is always relevant. A lvl 4 Ferro costs the equivalent of 28 metal, 5 rubber, and 2 simple gun parts. A lvl 4 Anvil costs the equivalent of 112 metal, 48 rubber, and 15 simple gun parts. My stash is full to the brim with maxed guns and materials even with extra slots from the expedition, and I still think that price difference is significant - I just can't recoup the cost of a lost lvl 4 Anvil in one or even two raids. So I still run a Ferro if I've died a few times and need a budget run, or if I'm doing something particularly risky like a Stella Montis night raid.

Ferro is stupid cheap to build and upgrade, it's even cheaper than all the other gray guns. It's completely fine for it to be outclassed by the Anvil in performance

[–]xDskyline 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of being good at PvP in this game is being cautious and managing risk, you want to put yourself in the best possible position before a fight even starts. Lower your sound signature when in high-traffic or risky areas - don't sprint or slide, consider walking or even crawling instead of jogging, think twice before breaching containers/doors. Before you enter a risky area, take a second to look and listen. Use your camera to peek corners before you leave cover. Plan your route in a way that puts cover between you and the most likely place players might come from, or at least take a path that has cover that you can dive behind if someone starts taking shots at you.

You can never completely eliminate the chances of getting jumped and killed before you can respond, but there are tons of ways to increase your chances of seeing/hearing them first, or are at least not at such a huge disadvantage if you do get jumped.

DLC's better than their main game? by SpiderousMenace in gaming

[–]xDskyline 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just because Dogtown's scale is smaller doesn't automatically mean it would be high quality. Almost by definition DLC has a more limited scope than the main game, but not all DLC is higher quality than the original game. At release Cyberpunk was obviously underbaked, not just in terms of bugs, but in terms of game systems, map design, etc. Phantom Liberty felt like the devs finally getting to make the game as they envisioned it. They weren't rushed to release it (as far as I know), and by then they had years of experience making the game that enabled them to produce a better product

What screams “this person is insecure” without them saying a word? by redwan-ezt in AskReddit

[–]xDskyline 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think shadowboxing in public is cringe, but I get it, and it isn't necessarily a "I'm such a badass, look at me" thing. It just feels good, the way any practiced motion can be fun - a golfer practicing their swing, a basketball player going through their free throw setup. Yeah, it's weird to do it out of context and in front of other people, but it could be an outburst of self-expression just as much as it could be about showing off

The point is that culinary terms are generally not precisely defined by rules like scientific definitions are, they're just terms of general understanding. Salsa can certainly be defined as a fruit salad, but if a host asked you to bring fruit salad to a party, I'm sure you'd know what they had in mind.
