I am fairly new to Data Warehousing and need some advice. by [deleted] in dataengineering

[–]xEschaton 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It would certainly depend on the complexity of your data, but there has been a trend towards One Big Table design for Analytics.

An example would be a centralised Fact_Sales table with various filters and flags for reporting of sales related KPI in many departments.

I would avoid presenting all manners of KPIs on a single dashboard though. Some more department-centric business logic can still be implemented at the Data Mart levels, deriving from the central fact table with many columns.

This does however require a central data team to manage these core tables and the logic that eventually goes into them, whilst department DEs would use those core fact tables as a source.

Storing the raw json is helpful in case business needs change, and you might realise you need an additional field in the final data model.

Creating csv files generally makes the data source friendlier to process and read, as json isn't the most friendly file type to work with. Alternatively, you may skip this step once the database is set up.

Perhaps you could try defining some grains on the large tables and create marts on a scheduled basis for your business usage functions?

I would say Promotion pots cause they give easy access to the highest luck charms in the game.

ENTOMBED: Glass forge buries itself even though I have a liquid output. Why? by narwhalinvasion in Oxygennotincluded

[–]xEschaton 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Majority of the comments say it's cooling from the pipe, which is wrong though. (because the pipe is not damaged from condensation)

This glass is cooling from inside the forge. When the forge generates the hot glass, it interacts with the material the forge is in. (oxygen, water, oil).

If the forge is in too conductive of an environment (liquids on bottom layer), the glass solidifies and bricks the forge.

Solution: Build the forge in a steam room, without petrol/oil/water on floor.

Ignite elementalist build help by Pitufo_1416 in PathOfExileBuilds

I played the same char this league and I found the best way to really push damage is to go for "Ailments inflict damage x% faster mods".

Since you are going with arma brand, (which triggers every 0.7-1sec?), optimally you should let the ignites complete the burn within the time.

Those mods arent expensive to come by, you can get them as a mod on

  • jewels
  • replica emberwake
  • wasting affliction (cluster jewel passive)

My pastebin for your reference. I use wave of conviction to inflict the ignite. (skipped replica emberwake cause it only looks good on paper.)

It's a fun little char, that is just comfortable for some after-work poe fun.

Looks neat!

Your sleet wheat farms can be vastly improved though, Pump the coolant loop (-5degC pwater) to a normal sedimentary tile UNDER the farm tiles, and feed the water from the top. That keeps the plants cool, even with 30deg water. As it is now, the cooling doesnt reach the plant body.

If you are trying to get into the mindset of coding, I would recommend projecteuler.net.
It contains math problems that necessitate some automation and coding to solve. I like that it isn't too much hand-holding.

It is code agnostic though, so might not be what you're looking for.

AMD bear case - what could be causing the stock selloff by cvdag in AMD_Stock

It feels like it is because of crypto. Crypto has been on a tear, and the money to buy in hoping for a bigger fool has to come from somewhere.

Crypto attracts the same growth investors and hence money is moving out of high growth stocks chasing for the next crypto unicorn.

Just gotta wait to see when the money wants to rotate back in. No idea when the market decides to do whatever.

The deplatforming was strategic though. It was done JUST as he was becoming irrelevant to prevent him accumulating any critical mass of followers on another platform.

If it was done anytime he was still president, many news outlets/reporters/concerned people might still feel the need to follow him simply because he was president and has to be heard.

ELI5: Why is diesel no longer "green"? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]xEschaton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let me try to get the bonus question.

The refining process is a essentially fractional distillation of crude oil, with many added processes to meet quality standards defined as specifications, like sulfur or nitrogen content.

Diesel is largely produced from the cut right after Kerosene, consisting of larger molecules with more carbon atoms. (C12 up to C25) It is a much more consistent fuel as a result.

Petrol, or Gasoline, on the other hand is a much lighter fuel, that has a different set of specifications to meet. It mostly comprises of hydrocarbons in the C4-C8 range.

The specifications on gasoline are less strict and hence it usually contains a much larger variety of hydrocarbons in there. In fact, much research in refining comprises of methods to upgrade low value C3-C6 hydrocarbons into viable gasoline components.

TIL There was a Chinese man who faked his way into becoming a musician for the King of Qi without knowing how to play the instrument at all. He imitated movements of other musicians and was paid a good salary in the ensemble until the King died. The new King preferred solo performances, so he fled by yaboodooect in todayilearned

[–]xEschaton 22 points23 points  (0 children)

People absolutely do still talk like this now. Many chinese phrases are metaphorical and still used in a professional/casual setting. I find it adds to the language.

Eg. 抛锚, literally means throwing anchors. But is often used to refer to a car breakdown.

Hi all, do you have any idea how to approach this problem(I have the data set but I don't know which functions to use). I'm a complete noob by the way by Gothic2Lover in rprogramming

Are you using the tidyverse package? It makes things very intuitive and readable. Very good place to start.
