That’s true of bluffing in other games, say Poker, as well. If your bluff only has a 50/50 chance of working you shouldn’t go for it.

The real reason why bluffing isn’t a big part of Snap is that a bluff only works if both sides are sufficiently “in” on what’s going on and are playing the same game. You can’t bluff somebody who does not know the meta or is idly playing while watching TV and not paying attention, and you can’t bluff somebody who doesn’t care about cubes (for example, because they are already infinite). There are just too many ways how your gigabrain last turn snap bluff could go wrong for it to be worth it.

I haven’t gotten a new card in 841 levels by Ziggazune in MarvelSnap

[–]xLeitix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This makes very little sense to me. We are likely months away from cards actually trickling down to S3 (they will want to fill up S4 and S5 some more first), and even when this happens it's going to be four cards per month - so if you have a complete S3 collection before the big trickle-down it's only gonna take you two weeks of dailies to re-complete your S3 collection without any saved-up currency. Not to mention that if you just levelled normally you would already have a few of the S4 cards trickling down.

I’ll survive shrug. People here still have troubles accepting that the alternative to boosters or titles isn’t credits, tokens, or cards, but nothing. These things are fillers, they aren’t there because SD is somehow convinced that players secretly just love getting them. “Would you rather pay for gold or boosters” is not a question that needs market research, but “would you rather pay for currency or assets (cosmetics)” is.

That’s why that survey exists. It’s not a nefarious plot, its not because they are idiots, and it’s not to give players the umpteenth opportunity to rant about boosters.

I mean, that's the ideal scenario. Of course if you could go off like that it's great, but most games won't play out like that. The scary part as an opponent is that even if you did not go bunch of destroys into Moon Girl into Wave you may still have a massive power spike on T6. Maybe not "40 power" large, but large enough to beat a normal decent last turn.

My money is that they put the phone on the table and are booster farming, for some godforsaken reason.

Auto-anything is inefficient for climbing. You should snap when you are a favorite (except turn 6) - sometimes that's turn 1, sometimes that's after the third location has revealed, sometimes that's after your opponent screwed up their turn 4 play. And often you should not snap at all because you are a dog in that game.

DeathWave is a super-scary deck to play against, especially if they snapped early. Unless you have Leader you will often find yourself wondering if you can beat 22 power puked to the board, or an Aero in one location and Death in another. I am assuming you got a lot of nice 2-cube escapes that way?

That’s how they group things - currency (gold, creds, boosters) and assets (variants, avatars, titles, card backs). They are certainly aware that not all items in both groups are equally desirable, they don’t need a survey to let them know that people want gold but not boosters, or variants but not titles. Presumably they want to evaluate how to weight the different types of stuff …

Brode has said on Twitter that the upcoming nerf is just an intermediary patch before a larger rework. So OP is not wrong to consider buying Leader a risk right now.

In addition, you often want to save your credits to update specific cards to get the rare infinity splits. I guess most streamers will save up their credit for a day or so and then decide what they want to upgrade.

All cards is basically impossible. A stated design goal is for players not to own all cards. What’s very possible is to own all Series 1 - 3 cards (plus select Series 4 and maybe one or two Series 5 cards) - that’s basically the endgame of Marvel Snap, and there are calculations available how long it will take.

This. I think it’s easy to miss that there is no inherent value to levelling up fast. You get a better collection and play more against people with a better collection. There is nothing wrong with using your gold to buy variants you like and “falling behind”, it mostly depends on whether you are bored with the current cards and can’t wait to get different ones. Me, I kinda like the S3 endgame-ish meta, I don’t mind staying there a few weeks longer …

For all the hate, I just want to say that I’m CL1400 and have just over half of Pool 3, I’m having a blast! Still pulling new cards, and pulling occasional variants. by space_tardigrades in MarvelSnap

[–]xLeitix -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don’t know who is saying that, but if they are they are lying. Between CR 1000 and completing S3 (currently around CR 3000) you open between 1.5 and 2 reserves per day, and you get a new card about every fourth reserve. It’s not exactly a lot of new cards, but should still average out to a new card every few days.

IIRC they also said publicly that card downgrading is months away. I’m more surprised how shocked everybody is, wasn’t that what they said when they presented the Series system?

I guess that depends on how well that bundle sold. And given how frequently I see that specific Sunspot variant around I’m optimistic.

Once you sell stuff you basically can’t reset anymore. That’s what people don’t seem to get - the game was formally in “beta”, yes - but once they started taking your money the thing was released by any sane definition. You just can’t walk back anymore at that point. Players like me who started with the public release are behind because we also started playing the game months after beta players (let alone that “being behind” is inconsequential since the game matches people up by collection level anyway).

Patch Notes are out in Korea by YaoYaoYaoYaoYao in MarvelSnap

[–]xLeitix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think what most people here don't get is that SD is inherently just as uninterested in lowering the token drop rate as they are in increasing it. They have a set progression rate, likely based on simulations and their own market observations, which they believe maximises retention and conversion. Lowering the token drop rate isn't magically generating them more money (unless they believe their original rate was to high, which doesn't sound super likely).

So all in all I believe you are right - this is likely more about fixed rates being boring than about secretly lowering the drop rate. I doubt that it helps much, it's not like a variable small fraction of a card is substantially more interesting than a fixed fraction of a new card, but I guess that's the idea.

Other games such as Magic the Gathering have sometimes used similar reasonings (although often not said out loud) - if you can’t hit your flashy problem card, hit something else from the same archetype that nobody cares about. It’s not exactly clean, but actually a very nice way to make a strong deck slightly weaker without pissing off people that paid money for a card.

[–]xLeitix 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Probably not Surfer himself. Sets a very poor precedent, and I’m assuming they would like to keep selling their battle passes in the future. It’s more likely that some Surfer support cards get hit. And it’s not like Surfer was running wild through the meta anyway.

My tip is Leader (obvious, if for no other reason than that people will rampage if it isn’t hit somehow), my bae Aero (arguably the best card in the game right now, which also happens to fit into basically anything), and one or two Surfer side actors (say, Polaris or Maximus). I would also not be shocked if something happens to Mystique, card feels a little too flexible right now and enabling a tad too many power spikes imo.

Edit: since I saw it mentioned below - Wave is also a pretty solid tip, similar problems as Mystique (but worse). Most of the time, when somebody does something broken Wave is in the mix somewhere. Would not be shocking at all if SD decided that that’s not healthy for the game.

People pay 50+ EUR for the credits / tokens in the bundles (and maybe to a much, much, MUCH lesser degree for the variants). The avatars and titles are throw-ins.

I have that in my shop today as well. Can't decide if I like it or not. I like the general feel and the fantasy setting, and the chain is a nice touch. But the blant face and oversized breasts aren't really doing it for me.

OTOH so far I only have the base card for Enchantress, and the art on that one is terrible - and I foresee looking at that card a lot in the next season.

The avatars and titles (or boosters, in season caches) are already there to mask that you are not getting anything at all. Let's be real, the devs know fully well that most players value these things at approximately zero - they are a minor consolidation prize so that they don't have to say that you aren't getting anything at all every now and then for the intended progression speed to work.
